  1. Agree with Shagrat here. I'll be as happy as anyone else about the rain drops, and looking forward to the planned effects improvements very much, but I hope ED doesn't forget that we need the CPU power for other (IMO more) important things.
  2. I read it as humidity being a factor for wingtip trails. That's good. :)
  3. While I do own all available modules I only fly a few ones regularly: - A-10C - Huey - "newest jet" (right now the Mirage) - "newest heli" (right now the Gazelle) - one of the western trainers as soon as one is finished....
  4. I am also a bit concerned about the violation of the PCI specification (power). At the moment I probably wouldn't buy the RX480. I wonder what AMD will do next, and what further Benchmarks will show. EDIT to clarify: At the moment it looks like the AMD guys just took their mouths too full. I expected more. It will probably become a popular card, but for that price tag it _seems_ to be slower than advertised.
  5. Yeah, the new wing tip vapor effect looks really awesome. So do the new volumetric contrails.
  6. I don't want to get into this discussion too much, but maybe we should take into account that even if something is a clear disadvantage and the orders say you shouldn't do it, it might still be done because of overload (forgetting to drop the tanks). Not really fitting, but IIRC Pacific WWII ace Thomas McGuire reportedly died because he forgot to drop the external tanks from his P-38 during a dogfight. So if you see a plane in a dogfight with the tanks still on it, the pilot might just have forgotten it.
  7. Did you get the cockpit instruments working already? I remember cockpit shots from a while back but IIRC those were just the model.
  8. @Vitormouraa: Yeah, kind of. Although I admit I am more a sucker for deep simulation than for pretty graphics, so for me the priorities are set a bit differently. That doesn't make your statement wrong though. :) @SkateZilla: Yes, the high G-load vapor is the most common one and probably the one that is most important for that reason while still doable (humidity + g-load being the parameters). The other vapor effects are more complicated, I don't expect transsonic vapor cones anytime soon. ....but actually... humidity over x% and speed between mach y and mach z could be doable... EDIT: For props the blade tip vapor would be awesome....
  9. Yeah, considering that even contrails in real life are a lot more complex than what we have in the sim now it would of course be an approximation. Perhaps a rough idea of humidity, and a certain G-load could be sufficient to create something that is believable (although of course not completely realistic. EDIT @Sobek: right! EDIT2: Added #7a (contrail altitude). Would make altitude decisions more important.
  10. Oohhh, good point! I actually forgot about it. There once was a cool mod attempting to add them but it was never released, dunno why. So while it would be a purely cosmetic mod with no gameplay impact I think it would be a great addition. Not sure how I would think about it happening all the time though, so I guess they would have to at least guess a humidity based on the weather or something. Vapor over the wing when flying over Nevada at noon in summer would look weird. I'll add it to the first post, thanks! And come to think about effects I think I'll also add icing, since I am not sure how it is implemented. Most modules have at least Pitot and/or engine icing, and none of them has a visual effect to it (IIRC Leatherneck had something planned for the MiG-21 canopy icing, but I am not sure where that went). But icing is a lot more than just pitot tubes and engines. Iced slats are not funny I guess. I would love to have all that icing stuff, including visual effects. I wonder if something like that is planned so I'll include that as a question. EDIT: Ok, added #9 and #10
  11. Yeah, I really think 2.5 will be a big step for many things in DCSW, probably including effects.
  12. An additional question: With the new explosion effects, will new kinds of weapons also be included in the possibilities? Like fiery Napalm-type stuff or Willie-Pete bombs or Mushroom clouds caused by certain kinds of weapons? Example video: [ame]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER5rztRzOaM[/ame] Note: Please guys if you read my posts, keep in mind this is about effects in a computer simulation. I do not endorse the use of WP bombs, Napalm, aerosol bombs or nuclear weapons in real life and that should not be the topic here.
  13. Yeah, and probably gameplay improvements as well, that would be nice. :) EDIT: Corrected my post to not sound aggressive. Note to self: Don't post in the morning before the first coffee. EDIT: In case you are interested in my thoughts on the topic, see here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=168043
  14. +1 I don't get it completely either. Really curious how it will feel! :) EDIT sorry browser error created a double post.
  15. That's pretty nice! Can anyone confirm this, and if that is always the case now? (perhaps testing required using static and dynamic weather and different configurations for overcast and so on) I know it wasn't in the past, and I haven't seen it in a changelog so I am curious whether your experience was coincidence. So if it was changed (which would be great news) I'd love to know when that happened.
  16. It is really a completely different experience without nav aids. I am not too much into campaign missions, but in the Huey campaign there are also some really nice ones in which you can get lost, and you are constantly updating your map. I just wish I could mark my position on the kneeboard-map or the F-10 map myself instead of using the never-failing marker thing.
  17. Ah, there is my cue word: Weather. In short: - it looks kinda bad. Still OK but not great, especially clouds. - immersion-breaking when there is any kind of AI in the mission because AI doesn't care about weather while players do. AI sees, shoots and bombs through clouds as if they weren't there, which isn't fun. - clouds are not synchronized in Multiplayer. Imagine you are flying your P-51 hiding behind a cloud from some Bf-109 pilot, or trying to evade his fire by flying through a cloud. Then you are hit by his cannons and wonder "WTF happened? CHEATER!!" while actually he didn't see a cloud there, for him it was a kilometer away and he wondered why you fly around as if you thought he couldn't see you. So only a solid overcast is same for all (except AI) All in all: not fun. Night is different. I have flown night missions on public servers and they were fun. Harder, but fun.
  18. Well, concerning the Split-S: He never said it was a perfect 90° Split-S, did he? Mine are seldom 90°, which adds quite some altitude. Endless possibilities. :D EDIT: (Which has already been discussed in this thread I think, around page 200 )
  19. Hi and welcome! If you mean modules: I love the MiG-21, the M2000C, the A-10C and the Huey. It really depends on taste, almost all released modules can be great fun IMO.
  20. +1 Would love to +rep Markindel, Stonehouse, and a few others every day for their work :)
  21. Yay! Always nice to see progress. :)
  22. Thanks for the updates! What about that AFM though? I know I sound like a broken record, but I want to fly this plane properly, and not with that SFM. I prefer this bird over the Hawk.
