  1. Yes? Lol. Sadly, while 5090 is going to be almost a requirement for to meaningfully take advantage of Pimax Super hardware, if it's 20-30%faster than 4090 may still not be enough, at least at the settings i would like to run at; I realize that what I consider acceptable settings vs someone else can and likely is, wildly different. But Pimax promises are in the same category as Nvidia 3X performance claims.... Reality may be different . Dynamic foveated rendering is going to be doing some heavy lifting.
  2. That would be my expected range, 20-30% bump from 4090 to 5090. The increased reliance on frame generation to make up performance is what is concerning. At the current state of FG, it is a good ways from an ideal solution due to latency as well as the actual quality of frames being generated. Their tech demo for DLSS 4 frame generation mentions generating 3 frames instead of 1, which in marketing speak is apparently 3X performance boost...
  3. I'm honestly surprised the MSRP for the 5090 is $2000. It's basically 4090 levels on markup with cost adjustment for the new PCB, memory chips and silicon. I guess I was expecting them tonget even more greedy and seek higher margins. I wasn't going to be surprised to see 2200-2400. We will have to see where clock for clock performance falls, because as been mentioned, depending on how they are calculating the performance increase (frame generation?), it could be a moot point in VR which is what we were interested in the most.
  4. Patiently waiting on HUB, GN and others to get their hands on these and get some tangible reviews out. When Jensen showed a slide for the 5070, saying 4090 performance for $549, skepticism started to trickle in quick.
  5. Sweet. Keep an eye, or I guess "ear", out for audio glitches. Ryzen error correction on IF is very strong and it will often not straight up crash, but build to a crash and often manifests in audio glitches.
  6. It seems we have a difference of preference in quality settings. To each their own, however, doesnt change the fact that DCS can bring even the 4090 down to the level of performance where some (myself included) would not enjoy simming at.
  7. For your infinity fabric, what's your SOC voltage at when you tested stability? Higher SOCv can cause IF instability. Most chips should be able to do 2133 no problem; voltage above 1.2v SOC can make IF unstable. SOC voltage is mostly used to stabilize higher memory speed; rule of thumb if you can do 6200 on 1.2v SOC there's a good chance you can do 6400 at 1.3v or less. If you can't do 6400 at 1.3v then just focus of getting 6200 stable at lowest SOC, it will effect your idle power consumption. Mine won't do 2167 IF at 1.25v SOC but it will run all day ycruncher stable at 1.2v. Worth a shot if you want to min/max. Like i said, unless you have a potato of a CPU you should be able to do 2133 IF no problem.
  8. Not sure what specific part you find confusing. Can you have your settings at a point where you have buttery smooth gameplay on a 4090? Yes. Can you turn up the settings so that 4090 becomes a bottleneck? Also yes.
  9. In this case you're likely better off taking out two sticks and run 64Gb at higher speed and better timings instead of cobbling together 128Gb and running them and snail-speed JEDEC speed and timings. Running 4 sticks these days can still be a big ask depending on your motherboard and memory controller on your CPU. Couple that with potentially mismatched (even though they may be same "model") memory sticks, makes it that much less likely to have success. My recommendation for DCS at this point, get the fastest two sticks you can get, either a 64Gb or 96Gb kit. Edit: looks like you were running pretty slow 5200 DDR5 (which I would still question "why" on a 13th gen Intel...), so you're not losing as much as I initially thought, but your timings are still significantly slower at JEDEC vs XMP.

That's very much a personal choice depending on your risk tolerance and how much money you have burning a hole in your pocket.

    Pimax FAQ video

Sadly seemed mostly some damage control with vague reading of the of FAQ, didnt really cover any of the issues or what changes were made to address them. Looks like there is no always-on connection required, at least if the device is paid off. However, there must be some kind of check as per the FAQ there are only 2 transfers of ownership allowed before another round of "membership" fee is required....seems a bit slimy to double-dip on a device which has already been bought and paid for. Looks like they're trying to get a piece of the secondary market sales. Also I still don't understand why they eliminated a straight up buy of the headset with or without controllers and instead funnel everyone into the PimaxPrime "membership". The only thing I can think of is they're trying to pump up the user numbers for Pimax Prime...maybe to attract more VC $$. Looks like it's a follow-up to:
  12. Test other games, isolate it to DCS. If its an isolate case, is this a fresh install of DCS? Or is it a carry over from before the upgrade? If the latter, I would re-install. Along with what others already suggested such as updating/cleaning drivers.
  13. Ok, disregard. There was an issue observed by Ralfidude on Youtube with the Pimax where if you don't disable "active chaperone" and you hit the limits of the headset it would cut FPS almost in half. However, as you are not using the Pimax this is obviously not the case. As for your issue, definitely not directly a 9800X3D performance issue unless it's defective in some way; with limited information it's a bit of stumbling in the dark but some things to check: does this only present itself in DCS or are other games affected? As suggested, run some benchmarks like 3DMark for example to see where you system scores or is unstable. Is your system throttling/check the temps. If the issue only presents itself in DCS, was DCS reinstalled fresh with Windows or was it an old install on a separate drive? As for the drivers, the AsusDriverHub leaves for much to be desired. I would try Snappy Driver Installer and see if there are any driver updates or missing drivers (you don't need to do the full install, just the Lite version and scan only "This PC"). Also may be worth clearing out graphics driver with Display Driver Uninstaller in safe mode and reinstalling Nvidia drivers, but this being a fresh install its less likely to be the issue (unless its conflicting with a windows-installed driver). Did you do install chipset drivers directly from AMD or the Asus package? If latter may be worth uninstalling and installing directly from AMD.
  14. Is it only happening in VR? And if so, are you on Pimax?
  15. @Calvin.Pimax I can appreciate everything you do as a company face in the community. Often you will be the one for whom the masses raise their torches and pitchforks and at the end of the day, your power to affect change isn't without limits. And lets be honest, there are some members in every community whom aren't known for their patience or ease of dealing with; such is the nature of mankind fostered in the anonymity of the internet. By the same token, many of us don't enjoy being taken for a ride after making a $1000+ investment in a product. I truly hope that these situations are taken as lessons learned and affect positive change in the product and process going forward, so that anyone in the market for a quality headset, myself included, can feel comfortable investing a significant amount of their hard-earned money in Pimax.
  16. Interesting, thought it appears that the last reply was over two months ago with no additional follow-up. Furthermore, the question regarding the currently-existing Offline Mode being truly "offline" and how the headsets purchased going forward under Pimax Prime "membership" (as it doesn't appear you can opt out of it, even if paying upfront it still enrolls you into the unpaid "membership") are two separate issues to be addressed. From Pimax FAQ documentation, everything is tied to the serial of your headset. This is fine, however, it is not explained how this is verified/implemented. Is it verified once and that's it? Or does the status need to be verified each time, every 30 days, etc. Also, what happens if its unable to verify "paid-up" status, due to server issue or internet connectivity, what happens then? Does it render the headset useless. All going back to what are the chances of one ending up with a $1000 piece of desktop flair because a headset cant communicate with the server, whether due to lack of connectivity or from one not wanting their paid-for hardware communicating with some random server (I have a fairly tight control over what happens across my network(s)...and if someone wants my data, I'll at least make them work for it). Anyway, I hope as this program and new headsets into more hands we will likely have answers to these questions; at least long before I'm in the position to buy one.
  17. There is a one time option but it is bifurcated into cash + membership cost, either one time lump sum of membership or 24 payments. There no longer appears to be an option to just pay $899 or whatever it was before for the PCL. This enrollment into a membership is what's promoting a lot of the questioning on reddit as it is not clearly explained.
  18. From what I've seen on reddit and discord, all previously purchased headsets will function as is. The question will be how a headset purchased under the new Pimax Prime "membership" behaves. Not surprised there's outgoing telemetry from the software; something else that needs to be address.
  19. I asked questions along these lines in the other thread. It went in aswered. However, since then, I've been doing some digging (reddit/discord) and some of the confusion seems to stem from the use of the word "membership" where it behaves more along the lines of financing. There is also speculation whether this is a preemptive approach to tariffs, a lower entry price followed by a "subscription" to fully pay off the headset. Either way, this bring about the question of "always on" connection being required to use the device even after it has been paid off or if bought outright. What happens if/when Pimax verification server is unreachable. As far as I'm aware, this hasn't been answered yet; at least not where i could find it.
  20. Couldn't agree more.
  21. Build quality and quality control, coupled with warranty/support are my biggest concerns atm. I may be an "old man yelling at clouds", but to me, an $800+ consumer product should "feel" like a premium product; both through build quality, quality control and the manufacturers support of their product. And while many users will say they are happy with the product and the level of support they received, they could have just as easily been in the shoes of someone who had fight and claw their way to a resolution. To those folks, the only sample-size that matters is their own. So far I've seen enough to give me pause about buying into the Pimax ecosystem. We will see how things shake out when my G2 is no longer an option. On paper, Pimax looks to be a capable product.
  22. Both the Samsung and Hynix can have same/similar XMP as that only sets the primary timings and voltages. The secondary/tertiary timings will likely differ between the two sets of sticks. 4800 is the default JEDEC spec for DDR5 in general. You definitely don't wanna run your DDR5 at JEDEC spec....it is god-awful slow with terrible timings. As far as keeping Samsung vs Hynix, my statement was based purely on overclocking potential; I should have been more specific. Hynix will clock higher with better timings than Samsung. For example I have a set of 5600 Kingston Fury ram (Hynix A-die) that will easily do 6400 at 28-36-36 on Ryzen. If you run them at XMP/EXPO there is little to no difference between Samsung or Hynix (by themselves, not inter-mixed). For your next set, get two sticks of whatever max capacity you want at whatever speed/timings you desire and call it a day. Things get more muddy when you mis-match RAM and even more so when populating all 4 DIMM slots on your board.
  23. Unfortunately most of the manufacturers don't cite the ICs being used as supplies vary. There used to be tool that you could run to find out which would tell you the chips you have (i don't recall its name or if it is still maintained or if it even works on DDR5). Sometimes you can look at the speeds and timings used as some chips will do tighter timings than others. For example straight 36 timings (36-36-36) on DDR5 in the early days was a dead giveaway for Samsung chips. Also, some manufacturers often favor a certain IC, again as an example, Corsair used to heavily favor Samsung. If you're buying a new set of sticks and aren't going to overclock then it really shouldn't matter what ICs are used as long as they run your desired timings/speed. If you are looking for expansion compatibility down the road, I would strongly urge you to get matching sticks now or buy new set when you're ready to upgrade. As you have already found out, there are significant compatibility issues that could crop up trying to match memory months/years later. Edit: For what's it worth, Hynix makes a better memory IC than Samsung.
  24. Sincerely hope that there is truth in this and there is a positive change going forward, though actions will speak louder than words. Sadly, in recent times many manufacturers and their warranty/customer service shenanigans were exposed by the likes of Gamers Nexus and others. Cases where the little guy gets screwed and there is a company acknowledgement only when the issue gets traction on social media and their dirty laundry gets aired out by someone with a following. Then the company issues a statement that speaks in generalities and "PR-speak" ("implementing plans and strategies") without actually laying out what specific issues were identified and what changes are being made to ensure the issues do not repeat themselves. In the end, many of these changes never see the light of day and that fact only gets brought back to light when another issue gets aired out in public....Looking at you Asus. Not saying this is the case with Pimax, but many of the same complaints (some un-vetted) are beginning to surface and more substantive transparency on these issues from the "horses mouth" (Primax) would be most welcome. At the end of the day we are all but one guy/gal and can only individually vote with out wallets; not looking to change anyone's mind. At this time I will hold off on my Pimax purchase until I am convinced that I won't get shafted should I need support after the company already has my $1000+ in their pocket.
