  1. Thats a real shame that you are having issues. I had problems with oculus support initially with my CV1 and they were not too helpful either back in the day. I have concerns knowing how protective oculus is, in that they will invent a block for ALVR and riftcat(if thats its name?). I just ordered it moments ago but not for simming as my Vive Pro with lens mod will be my DCS go to. I actually ordered it for use with other steam games that I can play with decent room scale space in the lounge/family room that I am unable to play in my limited space mancave. Hence why I am wary of oculus and future firmware updates to hobble what is turning into what seems like a good allround system.:doh:
  2. I use exactly the same and handy to map a bunch of other things ie kneepad page jump commands etc
  3. I find if I am in an Aircraft and its a strain to see around that I might have my cockpit View set a bit small. You can adjust the size by lowering the Force IPD to 58 or 57 in the VR settings. There seems to be a slight inconsistency in the individual aircraft rendering sizes. If I drop it to 58 for the AV8 or F18 then go back into the A10C I feel like I am in the cockpit of a Herc not a single seater. If you dont want to do that, another trick is to recenter your VR view by moving closer to your monitor momentarily....hit recenter and it will push you back about a foot and make it easy to reach those pesky hard to get at switches.....then recenter back to normal view/position. It only takes a fraction of a second and becomes automatic after a few times. A bit like in the olden days where you would recenter that TrackIR thing automatically without even consciously doing it. Of course another method is now you have the Vive Pro is to do the Gear VR lens mod and your sweet spot is now about 70% larger and you can just glance down without out having to turn your head as much anymore.
  4. TheRBT what country are you in? If your in Australia eBay stores has 10 and 20% off deals this week so can get the headset as low as $900 aud (650 usd) Inc shipping. EDIT: FYI for anyone on the fence in Oz Use the AU eBay app and Code PAPP10 (I will remove this edit when it expires).
  5. Spend the money, if you have it, and get the Vive Pro. I sent my O+ back for exchange and the new one arrives this week.....straight to eBay. The Vive pro isn't perfect ie sound is better on the Odyssey and Samsung after sales seems pretty good. Reports about HTC after sales is somewhat poor....although I don't have first hand experience with them only from reviews I have read. Use the Vive pro for a bit then do the lens mod. Click on my name and select "find more posts by Macka" and read my last few posts re the vive pro vs Odyssey+ . Of course they are only my opinions but I do have a keen eye when it comes to what a display and an image should look like (its my job). Plus you already have the compatible base stations and controllers. Go on...pull the trigger....you know you want to... lol. I am a Rift guy and wish they had come out with something by now but now it would have to be pretty good to get me back.
  6. Yes the original vive can be modded with the Gear VR lens. The process is identicaI. Just use a different file to correct distortion....very easy. I just did my Vive Pro tonite and it was simple and painless. The Vive lenses just literally pop out. Took longer to read the instructions than the actual process. You only need a 2016 GearVR version (its black...dont get the white one as its 2015). I paid only $49 aussie dollars ($35usd) from Amazon Au new, but found 2nd hand ones as low as $15 on ebay. You may find you will need to upgrade your graphics card either way you go, Vive Pro or Pimax.
  7. I have/had the Odyssey + and the Lenovo Explorer. If you enjoy soft focus photos and images you will Love the Odyssey +. I preferred the sharpness and clarity of the Lenovo even though it had an LCD screen. The O+ was very comfortable for me and I did like the build quality and the sound. Its just a shame they did not offer an option of the old screen in new version + HMD. I sent it back due to bluetooth issues and also cited the poor quality images as the reason and decided to exchange. In the mean time it has been nearly 2 months and thought about opting for the original Odyssey instead. I thought long and hard about another option of blow bucketloads of cash and take a chance on the Vive Pro. It arrived a week ago. It was worth every penny I spent on it. As smooth and effortless as the oculus when playing DCS (I never got good results with WMR). And was much sharper and clearer than the O+ and the Lenovo. Tonite I did the Lens mod ( swap GearVR lens for the Vive lens) and it was another level above. I no longer need to adjust for sweet spot as most of the image is the sweet spot now....no more glare or god rays just crisp images. I wish I had bought the Vive Pro a year ago when they came out. Bear in mind as well, thats high praise from me as digital imagery and manipulation is my game (within the bounds of current VR technology). So my new exchanged O+ finally arrives this week....wont even open the box....straight to ebay :) .
  8. If you choose the Pimax route you need to add extra for steam/HTC base stations and controllers as they are not together in a package and if you order now there is a lot of uncertainty as to when it will ship. They have published a shipping list last week and of the roughly 4000 or 5000 backers less than half have shipped and that number does not include pre-orders. They have considerably ramped up production but slowed down processing because of increased and more stringent Quality Control (a good delay imho). So the quick way would be Vive or Rift. If you were prepared to spend that amount of money to full setup on Pimax then I would suggest get the Vive pro kit which comes complete with the v2 base stations and controllers. When the Pimax is a bit more steady you can sell the Vive Pro HMD but still have the necessary support gear. And you get the reliability of the vive Pro in the meantime. And you have it tomorrow if a local store has stock. (HTC after sales service is said to be lousy though). You should be able to run both on a well overclocked RTX 2080 but stock speeds will struggle on both Pimax and Vive pro...not a big deal if your more into targets than pretty scenery. If cash is a concern then definitely stick with the std Vive. The Occulus rift has been dropped to $350 base price and is a steal for a first foray into VR....it just runs and performs all the time. I have the Vive Pro and luv it after only a couple of days. Its everything I had hoped the Samsung Odyssey plus would be....and ohhh so sharp image compared to O+!!. Am selling my O+ and my Oculus rift (to help pay for the high price of the HTC). I still am liking the idea of the Pimax but will wait for the dust to settle. Hopes this helps in your decision :) Either way you go you will enjoy. THIS https://www.roadtovr.com/ces-2019-rift-touch-priced-350/ Oh...if you go with the current Vive package your included 1st gen base stations and controllers will work with the Vive Pro as an upgrade path to consider. I think same for the Pimax...but you might want to research that.
  9. Luv your work. Thanks :)
  10. I have noticed this phenom as well over the last couple of weeks. Initially I thought it may just be excessive default take off trim newly modelled or added on some aircraft in an update for runway starts. Unfortunately it is also happening in air launched missions but intermittantly. So far it I have tried F86, L39, F18, F5, M2000. I am aware of the high take off trim on F18 but it even feels more excessive than previously. I am using a TM warthog. I will try my old MS sidewinder ffb and see if the same occurs.
  11. I am getting exactly the same symptoms in DCS1.55 and 2 with occulus 1.10. Haven't played for about 3 weeks and now this.....very immersion breaking and annoying. Doesn't happen in any rift native purchased games. It is also happening in FSX and P3D Flyinside far worse than DCS. Will investigate further and load up a few racing games as well. It might just be that DCS and Flyinside haven't caught up with latest runtimes??
  12. @El Grillo Have you tried directly mapping a joystick button to Recenter VR headset? You don't actually need to map it to KP5 as there is a dedicated command for it. Maybe I misunderstood what the problem was? So for anyone that may not be aware of it, and hoping Derek doesn't mind another VR tip in his post, its in the "UI layer" as JG4 Sputnick mentioned earlier in the post. But its hard to find if your not aware of it. Go to your main options menu. Select "Controls" panel along the top. Select the top left dropdown menu (where your Aircraft selection is) and scroll all the way down, past all the aircraft names and below UH1 heli, and the last one is called UI Layer. There you can designate any of your joystick buttons to Recenter VR headset. For instance I have The TM Warthog and made JOY_BTN15 my recenter. Its the red button on the throttle lever and is just a duplicate of some other control I think, so I used it for recenter. I also used the CMS hat switches as mouse buttons and scroll. If i need the cms switches....as you do.... I mapped the slew push switch (throttle JOY_BTN 1) as a modifier and use it combined to launch flares and chaff on the cms. See attached pic of my bindings, but use whatever button or switch your comfortable with :)
  13. I'm sorry but I believe that was my order.....please forward on.....yours will arrive later at a date to be announced!
  14. @DerekSpeare, yes that would be ideal. I used to use a grey color whicht would blend in and not make it too gamey but just enough to spot targets at range. The best you could do at the moment is change the letters or characters to bigger or smaller or multiple letters or colors. For instance just a dot at 20 km ....then to an X as it gets closer then multiple XXX or OOO etc
  15. Attached is my modified labels. I have it set to dots but the distances are adjusted so its not too easy. It is JSGME compatible so just unzip and drop into your JSGME mods folder. If you wish to insert manually you can unzip then just open and copy the Labels.lua and drop it into your DCS install in whatever drive ie mine is : F:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Config\View. Recommend using JSGME otherwise it will be overwritten on every update. So always remove mod before DCS update and re enable after update. It only takes a couple of seconds to remove. I have set the colors to red and blue. The ground targets appear as you approach at 16km and disappear at 3.4 km where you should be able to see the targets without labels in VR for the run in. Aircraft are set from 5-15km Naval at 20-40km You can open the Labels.lua and edit your own distances if you prefer Here is the Thread on JSGME for modding file etc. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=98607 Here is a newer GME for modding https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=171956 Labels dot.zip
  16. I use Big Screen often and quite like the concept but tends to take a fps hit in DCS if I launch from it. The resoultion can be a bit of a strain in this generation of headsets. But your experience may vary. And of course its free to use to try for your self.
  17. What version numbers are they. The highest version number should do the trick. To install it just open the simtools plugin updater (from your start menu) and drag the zip file from windows explorer file manager straight onto it. To check if it has worked you will find a modified or new export.lua in C:/users/yourname/Saved Games/DCS/ scripts
  18. In order to get a pseudo 6DOF seat I often think of how it would go to have a compact 2DOF ( like MacThais impending unit) mounted on an old barbers chair with motors for 360deg yaw and heave up and down on the main column? I think it would be a differnt take on 6dof in that they dont generally have the full 360 deg. When I first was learning basic flight we had an old WW2 link trainer with 360 deg rotation and it was the coolest experience learning instrument flying with the hood on and no outside reference.
  19. Thats easy....ring homeland security and tell them you believe some nuclear device is coming into the country....they will know it coz it has "Atomic" written on it...lol Edit: Sorry Mr Sparks.... but I think you have figured by now we are all envious of you and you shouldn't feel embarrassed about any high quality purchase for a hobby you are passionate about.
  20. @Mr Sparks Look...if it makes you feel more comfortable I will swap you for my SimXperience rig......And I'll even pay the postage and throw in my computer below to sweeten the deal for you:)
  21. Don't feel too bad its not costing several thousand dollars every hour you fly in a chopper or P51 like real pilots. And you can fly as many hours a day as you like. I also know golfers who pay that for golf clubs and then pay thousands of dollars per year just for someplace to use them. :)
  22. Getting to know and use the Simtools Tuning centre will be very important after you have done your initial setup. This is where you will tailor the movement for each aircraft individually and save it as unique profile. No big rush to start tuning until you are comfortable with the basic axis settings with your primary aircraft. But there is nothing worse than having a really nice gentle profile for the P51 with full smooth dynamic ranges then you jump into an F15 and end up being thrown 10ft across the room on your first turn or turbulence encounter. Do not use Yaw axis if you only have a 2DOF platform. It is based on 360 deg of yaw and will confuse the hell out of you when setting up. More little tips to come as you get closer to setting up. I have subscribed to this thread so will see any questions you may have if I can be of help or they guys over at Xsimulator are very helpful as well. Edit: Sorry I am moving off VR topic discussing simtools and set up here, so once you guys get more into the setting up and simtools etc we can start a new thread in a more appropriate subforum. :)
  23. Yeah, agree, they all could be contributing factors. I had previously thought about possible IR interference particularly in a brightly sunlit rooms as it was always a problem with TrackIR. I have actually blocked out any extraneous light anyway as I previously used a 3D projector with TrackIR. It will be interesting to see results from tests with fixed mount and platform mounted. My system doesnt lend itself to that test as my contols are all fix mounted off the motion platform. Looking forward to hearing your reports on the new platform and any tests.
  24. Actually now that I think about it, of course your going to get burps and conniptions if you mount the camera on the platform. Let me try to explain this semi coherently. If I understand this correctly, the camera sensor is the primary sensor. And if it loses tracking for a brief moment ie hand in front blocking camera when scratching head or adjusting headset, reaching for keyboard etc, the IMU and accelerometers take over to provide seamless momentary tracking data. So, if mounted on the platform, the sensor sees your hmd in a relative fashion if you are centred at 100 cm Z axis 0 cm y axis 0cm X axis. But if you are performing a rolling climb to the left, the platform is tilted back and to the left ie Z axis 120cm X axis -40 cm and Y -10Cm. And that is absolute IMU data being sent to Rift.......but camera is still seeing centered at previous relative coordinates. Now if I momentarily block the camera or lose optical tracking.....whats going to happen? The IMU sends totally different co-ords back to the rift miles away from the camera sensor co-ords. It rejigs, or to use the technical term, "burps", the entire scene for a moment until the camera sensor takes over command and re centers back to its relative co-ords. Or, maybe it doesnt even recentre but takes the last known imu data and resamples it leaving you with a permanent drift offset forcing you to do a manual recenter to compensate. Make sense? That`s probably the burp they are reporting. Of course this is only my take on the problem but it makes sense to my feeble mind. Edit: Before anyone jumps on me, please bare in mind this is just a theory from my limited understanding of the occulus system and you'd need to confirm this with occulus themselves. Or if anyone has a better understanding of the Rift CV1 tracking system please feel free to gently correct me.
