  1. A good source of the parts is an old IR mouse you may have laying around. The mouse micro switches are perfect and of course you have either one or two IR led's inside as well. The USB cable has all the wire you need to join all together. I use mine with one as a thumb switch on the side of the glove. (cotton lined rubber glove finger, reversed...Cheep....cheep!!!!....and nicely cleans the monitor as I fly.....lol.) Great work JonK. :) :)
  2. They are definitely loadable from mission if set as default by mission designer.....I remember when I was testing a mission, it was awfully embarrassing to do a rocket strafe and all these pretty orange plumes erupted around the convoy I was attacking....DOH!!! I spose you could set inner station with HE and outer with markers......for your mate who is designated FAC bird. But then Data link is for that without getting up close and personal.
  3. I second that...dumped my Saitek X52 (stick only)and went back to MSFF2.....Its far more fun and feels much better.
  4. I get usage stats similar to above but when doing a real world FPS on a benchmark track, I get exactly same fps with crossfire enabled or disabled and also with second card physically removed from system hence it does squat for my system (annoying since i bought the card for BS). Usually test on 8x aa and 8x af @1920x1200 res and also use GPU_Z for logging. It may just be my system and not the game or drivers.....have given up trying to sort it, have settled with 35-60 fps ingame anyway.....its just this innate need for speed....thirst for burst......bleedin to be leadin' !!!! :) :)
  5. Slightly of track and isn't answering your question but FYI your E8500 is generally known as one of the best Intel cpu's for over clocking. Even with the std cooler mine is running silky smooth at 3.8ghz and not hitting 60deg under load. With aftermarket cooling most are running 4-4.2 ghz. maybe you should try a little overclocking up to 3.8 to be safe and you should get about 15-25% fps increase. Only increase the fsb by 16ish at a time and monitor it with speedfan program then increase again etc. :) Sure a lot cheaper for the short term till the quads come down in price.
  6. Running 8.12s at the moment no probs. Except crossfire seems to do squat. Had problems with the 8.10 hotfix versions where lost all interior of cockpit although the vanilla 8.10 was ok. 8.11s were randomly dodgy with the mountain textures for me. Running 2x sapphire 4850s on vista. :)
  7. Change frequencies on VHF data link ie 128.00 .....128.500 etc.....4 ships can use each frequency and don't forget to set which bird you (self ID) and your mates are in i.e. Command 1...or wing 2...3....4....
  8. I was thinking the same as Kurtz above so I loaded up the laptop with vista, dropped all the settings to low-med (turned water, effects and shadows to 1or 0, 2x affinity) and ended up with 35-45 fps @ 1680x1050 (no AA). The laptop is a 2yo Tosh P100-221 with 2ghz core2 duo and 512mb NV7900GS with 2gig ram. Easily good enough to fly whilst on the road mobile. Very happy :) :) P.S. of course with, only just realised, 256k (thought 512) upload bandwidth can only host with one maybe two if I connect by LAN. Bummer :(
  9. everyone beat me to it....make sure auto.
  10. I noticed the Merge function is missing now.....was there a problem with it in this editor? It was kind of a roundabout way to copy and paste from a previous mission but still allowed to place pre planned templated flight plans and groups.
  11. Russian switches are really loud :) :)
  12. Same as peterJ above but cant program the buttons.....does anyone know of any software that allows MS FF2 programming in Vista. I also have the X52 but only use the throttle part and the MSFF2 as the joystick, it is far superior to the feel of the X52, for me that is, but miss out on the programmability :(
  13. Brissy :)
  14. In mission editor set the client aircraft's first way point type to "take off from runway" It will then start with engines spooled up ready to go at the end of runway or FARP. :)
  15. I have two Sapphire ATI 4850's in crossfire and the second gpu doesnt even appear active. I have logged it whilst playing the game and no activity at all. Normally even on other non graphics intensive games there is activity and performance increase. I am on vista @1200x1920. Kinda annoying as I nearly purchased a 4870 instead of a second 4850 ( which I purchased specifically for BS....after all this is 2008 :) ). Unless it is still something on my machine...drivers cat 8.09-8.11. I have given up on trying to sort it, putting it down to the game not supporting multiple GPU,s.....any official word from ED????? Any change in future modules???
  16. I have used the above programs with limited success but have always found Shift E's VAC program to be the most accurate as its specifically designed for flight sims. Its very powerful (several commands for same action, multi/macro, time delays etc.)and is very inexpensive with 30 day trial. Vista compatible too. Voice Activated Commands http://www.dwvac.com/ Cheers Macka
  17. In order to enjoy the game/sim to its fullest potential most people use TrackIR (IR 3d tracking device) to view or failing that, the Numpad and or POV hat switch on Joystick for views. Then you can use the mouse for other uses ie clickable cockpit.
  18. Excellent!!!! That was great....very immersive. Thx Ron.....more....more!!! And Thx Ed for the sim.
  19. I am using two Sapphire ATI 4850's in Crossfire. I have tried Cat 8.9,8.10, 8.10 hotfix, and now 8.11 and BS does not utilize second GPU at all (for me). I have logged the usage during flights and checked Gpu load usage/temps ...... nothing on second GPU/card? To confirm this I tested with crossfire enabled then disabled and ran fps check....no difference in performance or FPS. Am I missing something coz I purchased the second card specifically for this game.....it would be a shame if I wasted my money or could have opted for a 4870 instead and got at least single card increased performance. BTW all other recent games I tested used the second GPU with dramatic increases...ie 60-90% fps increases at 1920x1200 in Vista. The best fps boost for me in BS is still the setting CPU affinity to both cpus ...ie 30ish% increase. Can ED give an official confirmation, please, re support for Crossfired ATI cards so I can either keep investigating my system or accept it is not supported and spend my time flying instead of tweaking.....lol?????? :) Cheers Macka
  20. According to this...if I understood you question....yes. http://www.3dvisor.com/press_release.php?ID=67 Once you have tried it let us know your thoughts, please. Edit. Now that I have read further I see what you meant by native support as opposed to mouse emulation similar to the early days of TrackIR. Once this is implemented I would be interested in this. If you run it is the 800x600 res noticable (ie blocky or chunky)or would it be better when it gets higher?
