While I love DCS the cockpits are always so strange in their differences to each other.

Any idea when it comes to steam or will we have to wait for full release again?

Pilot head movement in the cockpit
wolfstriked replied to amazingme's topic in DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst
Voodooman can you reason as to why we should have to do all that? -
HA never even knew about switching the tanks to balance, thanks for the tip.

No ability to lean side to side when looking backwards?
wolfstriked replied to wolfstriked's topic in OctopusG
Im the only one:cry: -
Ok to be honest this is a huge pet peeve of mine where we get all these different trackir implementations per plane.I was hoping with all I got that ED would settle on a system in the newer planes so that your virtual head always feels the same.I get in the I16 cockpit and voila its different again. Why cant we lean left and right when looking backwards?:(

Seems I can pretty much trim hands off when I bind the trim aileron and pitch to the two rotaries on my X55 throttle. This makes me think that my first theory was correct in that the button presses are too drastic as I put curvature to 50% on both rotaries which reduced the sensitivity I can trim with and I can now trim level. I must say that this is superb now and I am so close to controls perfection!! The X55 rotaries have a center notch and this is a great starting point to trim.Easy to quickly know if trim wheels are centered for landing/takeoff etc. Yes I could just press T to recenter trim but then my rotaries are not centered and this feels more real

Flying the P51 and I cant trim for level flight so first and foremost can anyone else trim for level flight and can post a video?I ask this here because there are some peeps that will just shoot any idea you have down so fast you wont even be able to do it yourself by overheating. When I try to trim it doesn't zero out the plane so it flies trimmed but rather just makes plane move in opposite to direction I am trimming from. I have a few theories as to why that is. First is that the trim is too drastic and that it could use a slight nerf to amount stick is moved per press of trim button. No matter how fast and light I tap the trim button it seems to not zero out but instead move plane in opposite direction. Second is that there is just too much trim change in the DCS model meaning any of the tiniest changes in speed will cause a change in trim state. Its like planes are too dynamic and the tiniest input of stick or power or speed causes a change that is too drastic. Ok all you experts tear this apart:doh:

Will this non linear function make it into other DCS planes or is it to fix some abnormalities in the F5 that a desk stick cant relate to well?
-
Yes,the tighter the stick the more you can rely on tension to change the axis movement.I don't even think stick extensions are necessary if you have a very tight stick that is also able to read extremely small changes in movement. I use a warbrd stick but I have no stick and just use the base. This means its very tight to move the stick and for me DCS just feels way better.I cant wait for their new gimbal to start shipping as it will have a new cam/spring setup where instead of extension springs it will use compression springs which allow stronger springs to be installed. This hopefully will allow me to run an actual stick on the base.:joystick: Hoping for this!!!

I love German engineering but I do believe that the Germans took ideas from other countries.Look into WW1 planes ans its same thing.Niueport was a large part of the designs of the German planes. And I am neither Fredch or German so unbiased.

Serious disadvantage without trackIR?
wolfstriked replied to BertoneX's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Thanks I'll try again.Original IL2 had best snap views! Press 1 back left and if u pressed 4 while still holding 1 u would get the view inbetween the two.Really made all areas easily viewable. The new sims went backwards in this regard, probably due to trackir. -

wolfstriked replied to BertoneX's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
Being honest I love and hate trackir. What gets me is the constant recentering and losing tracking when leaning to sides.I loved the fact that snap views also allows you to sit however u want at your desk...slumped or whatever. Care to post your setup?i tried to do same recently with num keys but could not get the modifier to move view up.If its good I'll get rid of trackir for good. -
Trim changes too drastic at high speeds

LMAO it was perfect!! :megalol: -
I have an excellent color production Dell ultrasharp monitor and my wallpaper is of the DCS f14.I reduced the saturation on my monitor and the f14 looks so realistic on my screen its perfect. But then I see pics of WW2 stuff and its oversaturated to point I will have to lower saturation even more on my monitor to make it look good.ED....its WW2 a little color above B&W would fit better than the bright look your hitting here.....IMO ;)

:cry:Quick question....gonna post to bugs section but its way late and I must get sleep for work. When I pull G's and start blacking out instead of screen getting darker it turns green and its made up of small letters.Crazy thing when it first happened I thought I entered the matrix!! LOL Looks like this when I black out! XFFXFXFXFFXFFXFXFXFXFXFFXFXFXF XFXFXFFXFXFFXFXFXFFXXFFXXFFXFX XFXFXFXFXFXFXFXFFFFXFXFXFXFXFX -
Trim changes too drastic at high speeds
wolfstriked replied to wolfstriked's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I guess I will be a P51 only pilot. Its ok as I love this plane. With warbrd stick and crosswind pedals I can track planes and spray bullets acoss their bellies as they try to evade me. :) Cant wait for the rest of this...hope is growing again after latest announcement!! -

wolfstriked replied to wolfstriked's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
You really feel the planes all have the same head movement implementation?Really? Turn off x/y/z in trackir and look at gunsight and then turn your head to either side and the gunsight disappears in the 109.This doesnt happen in the P51. -

wolfstriked replied to wolfstriked's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
The news about the new 190 peaked my interest again. And funny thing but just now while flying the horrible 109 I looked at my axis tuning and saw it had a huge dead zone for both pitch and roll. No idea how that got in there but I removed it and the plane feels a lot better now.I mean at least it makes some sense in how it feels. The porpoise feel was me having no control around center and then making excess excess stick movements:joystick: But please ED fix the trackir implementation.Make all planes feel the same as turning your head should not feel different when you sit in different planes.I know it was super tight in the 109's but:doh: -

I must edit the above post by saying the DCS P51 is magnifique!!! Just feels superb for me a pilot of no experience ;) :pilotfly: -

wolfstriked replied to wolfstriked's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
I did post to disregard the whole post but ok I will bite. The planes in WW2 DCS are not flying realistic. This is coming from a person who has never flown a WW2 plane:pilotfly: Serious,,,the planes exhibit strange reactions that just dont feel right to me and so I post about em here. I want DCS to thrive in WW2 which right now its stagnant and if the planes feel all wonky and super hard to fly it wont happen. Look at this video where real life yak52 pilot reviews the DCS 52.One of the things I complained about is how the planes porpoise on take off.No video in cockpit I have ever seen shows the pilot in cockpit making massive pitch changes on take off.I mean why does that happen?Same power setting and speed is gradually increasing causing severe nose down attitude?Look at 10:30 where he says it has a tendency to sink upon take off which DOES NOT happen in real yak52. -
Forgot quite a few times to prime engines as I am now relearning P51 engine startup procedure and it starts up just fine with never priming engine at all.
-
Its rude to change something if some people like it though. But if its possible to have all head movements across all planes be the same I personally would very appreciate it.

Sorry more time has convinced me that the planes actually are more stable at high speeds.Disregard this whole post. ;)
