Mission Editor Manual and Tutorials wanted!
Woodstock replied to Woodstock's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks very much so far guys! Anyone else? - Keep it coming! How about pdf´d quick ref? -
Hi @ll, In order to teach recruits who are completely new to LockOn the basics of creating missions, I´m searching for the following: 1st: an online (e.g. PDF) version of the original LO 1.0 50-page quick reference manual. It´s pages 30-47 explain the mission editor. 2nd: any helpful links to any existing tutorials for the mission editor. I already came across this thread where Brit_Radar_Dude was quite helpful but there must be more material out there somewhere. Please point me towards it! Thanx in advance, Woody

are we there yet? are we there yet?
Woodstock replied to rage's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Unrealistic. They´re running late... Summer, fall, holidays... - who knows? We got a release date guessing competition running on our forum... ...people do all sorts of nonsense just to kill waiting time. Anyone taking bets that FighterOps will be first?;) ...didn´t think so... - anyways... -
I can´t help it, such statements always make me tick off...:icon_evil There is no such thing as "time constraints"! We´re rather talking about financial issues. If there was more money there would be more coders to hire and more could be accomplished in less time.:( God, I wish flightsims had sales numbers like FPS or WoW, I wish ED were all millionaires and we would get whatever we dream of in software quality and content...:icon_supe Anyone here won some lottery jackpot recently and got some surplus bucks to donate to ED? I shure would...;) PS.: Sorry for OT rant.

may be too much tuned up?...
Woodstock replied to Ardillita's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi Ardillita! I think your missile effectiveness settings are to extreme to tell anything usefull about missile behaviour. For a neutral comparison try missile effectiveness slider in middle position (50%), which represents closest to real life missile behaviour. Best regards, Woody -

Yes, it´s german. He´s "playing" Unreal Tounament. ...and yes, it was acted as part of a parent-sensibilisation-programme. -
E.D. - Is the file at lockon.ru 1.12a?
Woodstock replied to Weta43's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
No odd things to wonder here, gentlemen. It just happens that ED don´t coordinate the patch releases precisely so that every mirror is up at the same time. And there´s also no need for them to do so IMHO. As for our DL server, Chizh just uploads the files via FTP and drops us an informative mail but without any specific release timing. In case of the 1.12 release, we noticed the files and mail very late since some essential people had gathered for a squad meet in the Bavarian alps for a weekend of skiing and drinks...:icon_jook :icon_supe That´s why we weren´t mentioned initially in the Lockon.ru HP mirror list for 1.12. This time (1.12a) we noticed the files quite early and so it happened that we provided the downloads on time. We don´t even know if we were the first to host, it rather depends on how which DL links spread thoughout the community by forum posts... @ Wags: Since the patch mirror list on lockon.ru doesn´t state which mirror is ED´s own and which isn´t, it´s quite hard to judge Eagle sites from non-Eagle sites. I like the appearance of all this, everyone is doing his part in a combined developer-/community-driven effort. Makes one feel comfy like being part of a big international family. Cheers! -
How comes that something as huge as the RWR bug slipped through the beta testing process? It got noticed within hours after patch release...
-
We are proud to once again act as an official mirror for ED and the patches are now available in our Downloadsection. Due to e-mail problems we are unfortunately not yet mentioned in the mirror list at LockOn.ru, and eventually this may not change until monday. The preceeding patch has been downloaded more than 4000 times from us, and we are looking forward to once again offer our highspeed-download-service to the community. May the new patch 1.12 boost once again the interest in LockOn! We thank ED for their continuous product support and are now looking forward to the add-on LockOn 1.2 Black Shark. vJaBoG32

** NEW MOVIE: Tribute to the F-14 Tomcat **

I strongly recommend using the mouse´s 2 axis as A-10/Su-25T TDC input device. It is so much more precise than any stick´s coolies or microsticks. Even if you falsely locked the wrong object, you can drag the cursor over to the right object and it will jump over after some resistance keeping the locks all the time. I have my mouse either to the far left or behind my HOTAS Cougar throttle and just switch left hand from throttle to mouse for target designation. The mouse buttons are comfortably mapped with lock, unlock and TDC re-center and the wheel zooms IR-Mavs in and out. Give it a try, it´s worth it!:horseback Now, don´t anyone tell me that setup is not "realistic", since e.g. the :icon_sydaTornado:icon_syda has at exactly the same position on the left side panel behind the throttles a sort of grip that is used for radar TDC inputs:

Since I opened this post the number of players in the 1 vs. 1 ladder already more than doubled. Keep it coming, there´s fun to be had! Unfortunately the Team Fightersweep ladder had to be cleaned out due to inactivity of some teams. So, all you famous squads, VVS504, =RAF=, 44th, ADI, RvE, 4c, C6, 33rd, 159th, 169th and others, regroup and rejoin the ladder for setting up your squadwars! The S77th sat on the throne for long enough, someone kick them off now...;)

Nice project, good luck with it! Too sad I don´t have the required accents... -
F-14 tribute movie anyone?
Woodstock replied to Glowing_Amraam's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
@ GA: Got your mail, thanks a bunch! -
I disagree. That´s as useless as re-inventing the wheel. If you want to move forward and improve, you have to build upon and carry along the good things that already worked.

Sorry, folks, just gotta *BUMP* this one...:p BTW, two more sign-ups in 1vs.1 ladder in the last two days... ...what U waitin´ for?

F-14 tribute movie anyone?
Woodstock replied to Glowing_Amraam's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Cool, could you upload that somewhere or post a web link? PLEASE:icon_excl I was searching for the complete footage for quite some time. Too bad I didn´t buy a FD Gold copy, but I already had the basic version... -

Those two screenies Caretaker posted are from Fleet Defender, the best Tomcat sim ever. It featured detailed radar modes, Hawkeye Datalink, partly mouse-clickable pit with e.g. functioning MasterArm switch, immersive campaigns and several theatres. I guess I played it all through about 5 times... The Fleet Defender Gold edition featured a CD-ROM with a good multimedia presentation of one of the "Cats vs. Lybia" incidents, including tactical voice comm recordings, transscripts and event timelines. Very good ACM learning stuff...:horseback I still play the game occasionally on my old Pentium 200 MMX...:icon_syda ...but if you´re used to LOMAC and Falcon in 1600x1200 then you can´t stand 320x200 on a 22" for long anymore... @ G.A.: I´d love to see a LOMAC-based Tomcat tribute movie! If you do one, you just can´t leave out reminding of the "Cat vs. Su-22" and "Cat vs. Mig-23" RL incidents, that made the Cat just as famous as "Top Gun" did. Check out this movie with some of the original voice recordings: http://www.edgefiles.com/files/20092.html -
The first few new sign-ups already arrived, keep it coming! Any veterans, maybe? Go http://www.lomacleague.com !

That´s great news, Wolfie, thanks for the heads-up! JaBoG32 will be happy to participate again! Now back to LomacLeague: CAW and LL are no competing features, they serve different interests. CAW has mixed missions with official inter-squad preparations and briefings; has a developing political background story and only two sides where people and squads can sign up and fly side by side for their coalition. LL is totally different and has much more e-sports character with ladders, rankings, stats and is much more flexible for the individual player/team to set up match times. It has much less organisational workload and offers great fun for those who prefer or don´t mind fighting in a more sterile and arena-like environment. Since both systems have different appeal they perfectly coexist in an active online pilots life. I enjoyed both of them at the same time for the diversitiy they offer and I had no problem keeping up simultaneous activity. In contrast to CAW the LomacLeague does not need some more months for its comeback. It is there and ready, you can sign up today and have your first match this weekend. All it needs is people willing to overcome the first few months with still only few participants. It´s a vicious circle for the good and for the bad: the more players, the more attractive for new ones and vice versa. I think it would be worth trying, all we need is the will to lower our expectations at the beginning and stand true and wait for the "masses" to come. Are you willing to turn this vicious circle into a good and prosperous one? This project needs you!
