Open letter to the Moderators
Woodstock replied to S77th-GOYA's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I vote for a new subforum inside LockOn-EN, maybe called "Events" or "Community". The "Missions and Campaigns" is for sharing your editor work with others. -
In order to keep up the momentum Fuddґs initiative gained, we should start planning the next event of the series early so that we can meet again in maybe 4-5 weeks and everyone has ample preparation time beforehand. Of course everything should stay under Fuddґs guidance like coordination of date/time, selection of participants, etc.

First, there won´t be any "future LockOn add-ons". But, there are plans for successor simulations, like e.g. "Tank Killers". If we speculate and say Tank Killers will feature Su-25, A-10, Ka-50 and AH-64D as flyables, which is not shure yet, then it would be wise of ED to make at least the apache multiplayer-doubleseater and maybe consider a Ka-52. It is one of the coolest features ever in flight simulator games that dates back to Microprose´s F-15E Strike Eagle III and it made the Longbow series and Jane´s F-15 outstanding games. While in the last years it was omitted in Falcon4 and LOMAC, I guess mainly because of time/money restrictions, the trend definitely goes towards including it again. Microsoft made the first step with the multicrew-cockpit in FSX, FighterOps will have it as well, and so should every other sim to come!

Lockon Operation Red Flag/Combined Air Exercise
Woodstock replied to Fudd's topic in User Created Missions General
Archer is completely right. Be carefull with getting overly excited about certain topics that cannot be solved to everyone´s satisfaction in the current state of LOMAC. The reason why this event was a quick and huge success is mainly because it was clear to everybody that this was not a mixed squadwar but a friendly exercise. That´s why everyone regarded it in a relaxed way and why it worked. It´s not about pride and honor but about learning from each other, giving and taking. Those of you that remember the venerable CAW days might recall that there was a totally different climate those days. So here´s how this might succeed: Everyone keep in mind that this is a friendly and beneficial event, squad A learns something from squad B, blue side learns something from red side. Tactical debriefings should not be done team-internally but open to every participant, so that blues and reds could say "look, this was our plan, how was yours? - Ah that´s why this and that worked or didn´t..." Don´t ever mean something personal or take something personal. The one you´re argueing with might be your wingie in the next mission. Therefore we should also intermix squads and not stick to always blue or always red. The future individual mission designs could make this possible through varying coalition mixes leading to ever new aircraft availabilities on both sides. -

My opinion on R&R: I was sceptical at first that it was allowed. Usually JaBoG32 insists on NO R&R as a squadmatch rule. But then, matches are usually scheduled to feature multiple rounds. Most important: R&R banning always has to be combined with a limited takeoff time window, especially for mixed A-A/A-G operations. Otherwise the bombers just sit out the air superiority battle on the ground, then the A-A winning team bombers fly unhampered over the battlefield, and then finally when they and their cover fighters RTB due to fuel, the A-A losing team bombers take off and are free to manouvre over an otherwise empty map. Not desirable. To my surprise it turned out that Fudd´s R&R allowance in combination with distances-to-fly worked quite well for this mission. I understand all fighter missile spamming complaints though, but for the bombers R&R ensured that the very huge number of objective targets could be taken on to a senseful percentage. And the R&R enabled us all to experience 3 hours of fun community-get-together-feeling instead of only 1 hour. For the future: Missions with R&R - should feature at least the same or longer flying distances - should skip loadout changes - should have a pre-announced ending time, on Sat. the end was not known beforehand and seemed somewhat spontaneous Missions without R&R - must have a takeoff time window of max. 20 mins after missions start for all aircraft - should feature at least 2 rounds to allow longer "fun" duration General Feedback for future missions - consider the use of radar tools to enable GCI/AWACS operations - consider the use of the LomacLeague Mod to offer exactly even resources for both sides (e.g. A-10s or Su-33s for blue and red) - consider the use of human-player flown tankers for long-range missions, given that all participants are happy to be limited to Hogs, Eagles and SeaFlankers as flyables for a single such mission. - please DO NOT reveal all ground unit positions and types in the future! For the bombers the ground war was just too easy, the only unknown threat were enemy fighters. It needs to be more challenging by having to search for targets and not knowing exactly what types of short/medium-range airdefenses are located where. It´s ok to give KUB, BUK, HAWK, S300 and Partiot and of course bunker positions, but everything else is just too mobile to be known. -

Sorry for jumping at some of the suggestions all the time, but I also donґt like the prospect of any FPS concepts like the proposed "capture the base". It has as much to do with simulating military aviation as the dreaded airquakes. Iґd never participate in or support unrealistic stuff like that. -

Do you see any flyable deep-strike-capable aircraft in LockOn? I don´t. -

How about giving this baby an official name? What do you think about "LockOn Community Exercise Red Flag" as a working title? I would then suggest to use the shortcut "LOCERF" for this event series. Your thoughts? -

@ Groove: One event is not reflected in your stats: At 19:44:09 Blue JaBoG32_Callisto (MiG-29A) kills Red 159th_Fusion (Su-33) with an R-27T. He get´s hit himself by an R-73 from Fusion but loses only HUD and some other secondary systems and returns safely all the way back home. -

Sorry for the kick, it was a quick decision by the server admin when he noticed the pings were slowly rising during departure phase. We should have published the max. ping 400 rule beforehand so that everyone could check whether he was ok or not. You were in the 550ies if I recall correctly. On the other hand we are very happy that it happened to only one out of 44, and it definitely helped pings slightly decreasing again and then settling in quite stable. Sorry again, but you gave your life for the benefit of all others. -

At 18:58:38. Clean kill, you fire your 2 AMRAAMS, then you split-s and loose lock of your target before your second missile has passed Fudd who flies ahead of you. With the lock lost, your no. 2 AMRAAM goes active, sees Fudd as closest target and the rest is history... :smartass: The 120 is clearly tracking, it didnґt matter into what direction he was turning. -

Basically a great idea, but one major feature of this mission was to enable more than 75% of all participants to fly the type they liked best. For some it would be a huge drawback to be forced to fly something they don´t like or not feel proficient or comfortable in... -
I won´t give a cent for eye candy, I can live with those graphics for many years to come. The only thing I would pay for are updated flight dynamics and enhanced avionics.

2 questions: - What season? (Summer, Autumn, Winter, Spring) - To clarify the wind issue, please give both values: from where does the wind blow and into which direction? In aviation the wind direction is given as blowing "from", in LockOn mission editor you enter it as blowing "to". So please give both, the from and the to. -

@ Fudd: Nice work with the mission design and recon screenies. Though looking at all the units and thinking about the envisioned 44 clients makes me fear this to be a monster lagger, particularly because of the many radar sweeping SAMs and ships. I hope I will be proven wrong. @ Goya: Why build an extra Red Flag Mod when the LL Mod is still there, tested, proven, rocksolid. I used it as patch status for all LLTM2007 participants to enable even conditions for drawn team-vs.-team missions and it worked flawlessly. @ Dante: Good to see you mate! Is it right that www.lomacleague.com is down? How comes? I had a hard time reproducing LL single ladder gunzo rules from memory for the LLTM2007 gunzo tournament...:book:  If you want the mod still to be available to the community, we have it in our download section. If you want us to remove it, advise. But it would be a shame, it´s almost the only mod I use and by far the most practical one for many occasions. @ll BlueFOR pilots: Laud installed a team briefing/discussion sub-forum in our squad-forum. Check http://www.virtual-jabog32.de/forum/index.php all the way down at the bottom. Be advised that only BlueFOR pilots have access to this part of the forum. So feel free to discuss even tactical stuff. If someone is part of BlueFOR for ORF Mission 1 and cannot read and write there, mail to laud@virtual-jabog32.de or contact Laud via PM for access granting. -

As I said, it wouldn´t be too farfetched to just add Ukraine to the blue side. Not speaking for myself, I´m happy, but for others it´s also a matter of motivation to be able to fly the aircraft one specialized in. Talking about the longevity of Fudd´s initiative in terms of participation numbers... -

Whoa, call that somewhat heavily unbalanced on the fighter front! 10 Eagles + 2 crapy MiG-29A vs. 4 Flankers, 4 SuperFulcrums and 4 ten-pylon SeaCranes Donґt get me wrong, Iґm not complaining, we appreciate the initiative and support it no matter what. Iґm flying A-10 anyways, and 10 vs. 10 bombers of any type is just fine. Iґm just giving my thoughts and feedback right away for future mission design. The JaBoG32 will fly with what is there against whatever odds, but please keep the following in mind: Just because we are a German squad does not mean that we fly the German MiG-29A at all. Our Russian-type pilots fly either the Su-27 or the MiG-29S. So Iґm shure that no one of us has ever requested to fly the German MiGs in this event. It would have been great to get some Flankers, itґs just a matter of putting Ukraine into the Blue coalition... Hope that our 2 guys donґt get too confused when they get strange feet and knots readouts from instruments theyґre used to read meters and kilometers from...:music_whistling: :pilotfly: -
It´s not a bug, it´s a feature...:smartass: Rugg said it all, Numlock cancels padlock, A/G padlock doesn´t track a unit but the ground spot you had in your view center when padlocking. While using padlock, KP0 is a useful key...

I guess the interesting question here is, if the BS manual will as well be available as a printed hardcopy. I suppose the decision has not been made yet, just wanted to express my hopes...
