  1. I had a very early R/C quadcopter that used a mechanical gyroscope for positional feedback. If it got tilted over too far it'd go into gimbal lock, freak out, and smash into the ground. I wouldn't want to fly on one of those. As far as automation, it's like this old joke:
  2. I have the same problem. Specs in sig. I've tried mustang's 1.2 visibility mod, turning off tree shadows, and just about every conceivable mix of in-game options. Low settings or ultra, there's very little difference in frame rate. Turning off shadows entirely just about completely eliminates the problem, but then I really miss the cockpit shadows. I never had trouble holding 60fps solid when I was playing on a TV at 1080p, and when it did slow down it was because there was a lot of action and one of the CPU cores would be maxed out. With the current performance issue, no CPU core ever goes above ~60%, and GPU is often around 60% as well. I can force it up to about 80% if I max out all the post-processing options, but that's about it.
  3. Well, I've been using it for a week, so there. :prop: :D It's pretty cool. Despite the marginal resolution, having your desktop presented as an IMAX theater is interesting. I bought it soon as I saw it had an option to run milkdrop as the background. I've played around with it, but I don't use it regularly.
  4. I'd open it up and have a look around. Look carefully for broken or damaged wires, and cold solder joints. Since you have the meter check continuity between the usb plug and the corresponding wires inside the pedals.
  5. ^ I haven't seen anything, and the only thing I found on google was people saying their glasses scratched the lenses. Is there more info? That'd suck to scratch them up. :/
  6. Gotcha. Yes, you can't really drop the collective to the floor right away otherwise you loose all cyclic. There's a balance somewhere in there.
  7. Do you mean a steep dive, or a shallow one? In a steep dive you don't get the air flowing perpendicular to the rotor plane so it won't build RPM. If you don't have any cyclic authority, increase collective a bit until you can level out some, then reduce the collective again. Overall it sounds like you have the right idea.
  8. No, I'd say at least 80% of the orders were delayed.
  9. What are you getting for FPS? I can't maintain 90 as often as I'd like, even with low settings. Thanks to ATW, the game is still completely playable at 45, but it's nicer to avoid the bluring/double vision that it causes.
  10. I noticed that the Dora's sounds are very... directional, I'd guess you'd say. If you look at the right wing you get the engine sound in your left ear, but absolutely nothing in the right. There's some other quirks to the sound modeling too, like opening the canopy on the ground doesn't change the sound. I don't remember it being like this before so maybe something broke in a recent update?
  11. Frusheen, those are some really nice helicopters! I haven't had a 3d helicopter bigger than a 400, I can't afford to crash them at the rate that I do. :D Anton, regarding the power supply demands, I never saw much more than 8 amps per motor during testing. I stall tested one up to 10A, and like Frusheen said, they're more than happy to do up to (and likely over) 15A. You'll likely never see it in practice, unless maybe the bottom flaps are carrying too much weight. I just did about an hour of mixed flying with a kill-a-watt meter as a quick test. I did a good amount of A2A in jets, and there's nothing more violent than the thrashing that goes on when your shot up plane is tumbling through the air. Even with all that, I only peaked at 180W at the outlet (which would mean <15ADC) and the entire session averaged only 26W.
  12. Does the light on the pedals come on?
  13. All ya'll that are freakin' out better get your rift or vive on order ASAP because they're already way backordered and it's only going to be worse once more people try it.
  14. From the way I read the description, he put together this video to show people what the VR experience is like, not that it works this way in gameplay. It's hard to explain what it's like to be immersed in a game, but this illustrates the point quite nicely.
  15. The tech and processes used in CV1 are already cutting edge, it's going to be pretty hard to come up with a worthwhile improvement in a year, or even two.
  16. Well then, that sure sounds like it'll do the business! 1300W charger into a 12s pack?! That's absurd. What are you flying/driving? (sorry to derail, but I gots to know. :D )
  17. Poly_Roie, sounds awesome. I'm really looking forward to flying the Gazelle in VR!
  18. I can pretty much guarantee there's at least double redundancy in the entire power and control system. As far as a structural failure, you can say the same thing about any other aircraft. Regular helicopters are also hard to autorotate when the rotor comes off. :D
  19. I think there's going to be widely varying opinions, but as one data point, here's mine: HUD is pretty good, sometimes the smallest text (like waypoint info on A-10C) is harder, but still readable. MFD's are marginal, but I can usually make out the text or symbols. I think I can read it mostly because I know what to expect, it might be much harder to learn a new plane with it. Target spotting seems inconsistent, I'm guessing it varies on lighting or terrain. Sometimes I can keep an eye on ground targets from 15K ft no problem, sometimes I can't see them at all and I just have to shoot where the TGP diamond was. The instant action dogfights for the WWII planes has been pretty good (I have target enlargement on max), but it's much harder in the fast movers, outside 2nm is very hard to see. I tried to fly on the DoW server yesterday, I don't know if they use target enlargement or not, but I felt I was at a pretty severe disadvantage. It would be good to fly in a VR only session to even things up, or maybe have to allow labels. (gasp) All in all, I think the resolution limitations are definately there, but the overall experience more than makes up for it. I'm just going to have to get used to changing up the way I'm used to flying. Will do! :pilotfly:
  20. Frusheen, good stuff. I missed it the first post too. :P Agrasyuk, exactly. The back ones are much better wide to allow you to sink into the seat. The bottom ones are tricky because your weight has to be supported on the pivot more, but the placement is also important because the way it aligns with your hip bones makes a big difference on comfort. Regarding parallel power supplies, it might be best to have one power the left side motors and the other power the right side.
  21. Sure is. I can also reufuel the A-10 from 10% fuel to 100% in one shot. Never really could do that before.
  22. Apollo 11 was awesome, definately going to check this out. I'm really confused why they didn't leverage some FB server support on launch day. Shhh! Don't rub it in for the normal reality peasants. :music_whistling: Awesome! Enjoy! Side note: I was flying the Huey some more last night and reached piloting nirvana. The real world melted away and I was fully in the helicopter. I could do anything I wanted. Spot land on anything, quick stop anywhere, rock solid hover, precise flight forwards/sideways/backwards. It's like all the sudden the dozens of hours I've been flying it suddenly clicked and I finally MASTERED it. :joystick:
  23. OK, a "Gaming notebook PC" :smilewink: An average gaming GPU is like 4x more powerful than that mobile GPU, and a high end card is more like 8x. Still, DCS *should* be playable even on low settings. I have a laptop with similar specs and I had no problem playing DCSW 1.0.X on low/medium settings.
  24. When I read the first post I started thinking "what are they going to put on the tombstone?", "He died doing what he loved best -- playing a flight simulator" :D The G-Seat is amazing, pulling out of a gun run on the A-10, or punching the afterburner on an F-15, it's crazy. I built one and a few other members are working on builds. If you have the means to do it, everyone should have one. :D
