Leatherneck Simulations Monthly Update - January 2015
xaoslaad replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
Cobras post about the AT-802U introduced me to the plane. Now I want it and I'll be disappoint if we don't get it. -
In real life? I have no idea. In the game/sim? yes. When were you at Futenma? I was around the corner on Foster '05-'06 with MWSS-172.

The break is not very powerful. This is expected. Don't taxi too fast and rely on the chute for stopping when landing. You will not stop on a dime in the Su-25(T) using the wheel brake. I just replied to your other thread too. I think you are riding the break way to hard at the beginning of your landing and bursting the tire (overheating probably; hot brakes are a real concern) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhi3DfEB_yc
-
I can't tell, but are you riding the break the entire time? Try using it for short bursts instead if so. Rely on the chute to slow you most of the way down. They are nice landings otherwise though. I think basically what you're seeing is applying the brakes way too much at high speed and basically causing this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhi3DfEB_yc

You need to employ differential breaking to turn the MiG-21. Apply the break and use thr pedals to turn. There is no nose wheel steering. With a little practice it's not hard.

rename the .trk file that's saved after joining the mission to .miz. Optionally, open it in the mission editor and resave to ditch the extra track stuff. I personally have no problem with this, but some people flip their lids over it.

Leatherneck Simulations Monthly Update - January 2015
xaoslaad replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
I'd imagine they'd do like the C-101EB/CC if they wanted to release multiple variants and make it one module? Regardless the AT-802U looks cool and would be worth a purchase. I agree MiG's more modern than the 21Bis would be great as well though. -

Are the comments about the AT-802U serious? Because reading up on that thing I would buy it in a minute. Prop or no it looks more capable than many of the other third party aircraft we've gotten to date. DAGR and Hellfire missiles, LGB's, rockets, machine guns, sharp sticks. Looks very cool and versatile. -
Read the comments. It's practice refuel in case of a fouled deck. If they need fuel and there is an aircraft that can't get off the deck or some other reason they cant land. Pretty cool that they have such a scenario well thought out.

My understanding is that anyone can make an A-4 Skyhawk sim or model. But if you wanted to call it a Douglas A-4 you'd need to license the Douglas name. I guess because of the other work VEAO does they feel that that is important. Or maybe my understanding is wrong.

Because they're in the works and these things take time? -

I think his complaint is the modern fighters we currently have do not have advanced system modelling? -

I was disappointed with some decisions in IL-2: BOS so now I really hope we can get a better DM and they can churn out a map and some ground units. With a couple more aircraft (which are obviously in the works) I think they can be competitive. I mean BOS only has 10 flyables at the moment, so even 5 or 6 isn't too bad. We need the DM improvements yesterday though. Right now smattering an opponent with rounds and having him continue to fly like it's all good in his neighborhood not only lacks realism, but is also immensely frustrating. I mean I can still get kills, and if I can do it anyone can, but it should not be that kind of experience. The Hip, Huey, Sabre, Fishbed, and Fagot are also starting to flesh out the Vietnam-ish era as well, which is great. Sure they may not be the exact variants, but close enough for my concern. So very good. Besides me have the F/A-18C, Mirage 2000C S-5, and maybe even a whiskey cobra ( I dont think Belsimtek has admitted to any definite plan with regards to version of the cobra, but the poll results seemed to be pretty overwhelming, so I can dream), so we're getting stuff everywhere and for every time frame. No complaints from me. -
What's the best SSD to get for DCS?
xaoslaad replied to Dudester22's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I can also vouch for the Samsung ones being reliable. I've had varioud 840 (evo and non-evo) size and models in different systems and never had a problem. The big thing I saw, that others commented on and so I was looking for, was the reduction and ellimination of micro stutters from what is probably textures or data being loaded from disk. As previous said, it wont elliminate multiplayer stutters. The bigest thing I notice is when another player hops in a new jet it's almost guranteed. But again probably better than with a spinning disk... -
Do I need to download A10A module havin FC3?
xaoslaad replied to Charlie_01's topic in A-10A for DCS World
You'd have to buy a license for the module to use it. There's no point to it though. The individual FC3 aircraft modules are intended only for people who dont want to buy all of FC3. Maybe if all the FC3 aircraft get advanced systems modelling and/or when they are all available individually they will stop offering FC3. I dont know. I dont know if ASM is in the picture for these aircraft or what the end game is. If you just want an A-10A though and nothing else in FC3 it is a better value to grab the individual aircraft. If you have FC3 though there is no point at all. -

Dont need to. FC3 A-10A is the same rhing. -
Maybe it is a combination of scarcity and aircraft operating at high enough altitude to avoid them where possible? With hogs going back we could see more pictures of hogs surviving damage from missiles, AAA, whatever. But think about it, attack and bombers dropping LGB's from 15000 feet have little to fear from MANPADS...

This looks interesting. My head is already swimming with the idea of setting up a UFC, MFD buttons, etc. for the A-10C and doing similar for other aircraft. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/620560346/101touch-the-new-generation-of-keyboard I don't know how great typing would be on it, but it might be a nice replacement for a keyboard for flying, especially if you can assign custom key presses to keys/buttons. I've asked them if something like a button that can send LCtrl+LShift+Num0 (since it's one of the more complex examples I can think of, and would be used for the UFC) would be possible to define. I expect yes, but will wait to see what they say before I back it.

Yes, just remember keys you buy from the ED store will not work with Steam; some keys were grandfathered in, but Valve no longer does this so if you buy it from the Eagle Dynamics store don't expect it to work in Steam. Bought from Steam and used with standalone, as already stated a couple times, does work. Steam has been around for quite some time; aside from accounts with poor passwords, etc. and a couple moderate incidents (read the security section on the wiki above) there hasn't been anything too severe. Nothings impossible though. Edit: or what cichlidfan posted since he beat me to it.

I don't necessarily think that it's how most people play DCS or buy modules, however it is an option. A lot of games come out exclusively via Steam or it is the best download source so it is desirable for many games. It's also a DRM model that is less obnoxious than Starforce, but it will get you nowhere with DCS since you still have to activate modules via Starforce. It's not common that games via Steam also add their own DRM, but hardly unheard of. It doesn't add to anything in multiplayer either really, since DCS in no way supports invites via Steam, etc. Modules often come out on Steam a little later than the ED store as well, so people with Steam installs tend to have to wait a bit longer for them. I think Steam is mostly another vector for them to introduce customers to the wonderful world of DCS. The big thing about Steam is when there are updates for your games it pretty much just downloads them so your already up to date. Some games support multiplayer invites via steam, etc. If you ever need to reinstall your game on a new computer, or even a second computer you can just download it via Steam. No keeping track of licenses and keys and all that nonsense for the most part either. Your library is yours. And there is even family sharing so that if you have a game others can play it on their computer when you are not and lots of other features. It's definitely not the worst thing in the world.

You can buy on steam and use with the standalone... just start installing, purchase, grab licensefrom cd key list, remove, and go about installing it as you normally would...
-
Probably if you just start installing it will be enough. I think you need to have the install started to see your key too. There may be another way, but right clicking on the steam install(ed/ing) version is the only way I know how. You can stop it and remove it once you copy the key down
