  1. If you have the Open Beta installed you can download it in the module manager. I think tomorrow it will be up for the normal install...
  2. I have SLI 970's and a 4k monitor. You can run pretty decent at medium-ish resolutions. Don't expect to crank everything up; at four times the pixels and only twice the horsepower you're deficient compared to someone with 1920x1080 and one 970. My settings are down the left: HIGH HIGH OFF HIGH HIGH ON HIGH 3820x2160 1.7777777777778 1 Screen 512 Every Frame OFF OFF down the right: 0 9000 150000 Disable Aero Interface Full Screen Cockpit Shadows Auto Detect Oculus Rift and Mirrors on in Misc. I get reasonable frame rates most of the time ( as in >30 most of the time) Everything is smooth to my (admittedly terrible) eyes. If you don't have a 4k monitor yet consider Windows 8.1 if you don't have it already. I have heard with Windows 7 you have to play with icon and font sizes, whereas in Windows 8.1 I didn't have to touch any of that; much better scaling, which from reading is something it does a lot better than its predecessors.
  3. Patience. Most updates go through the Open Beta to make sure there are no glaring errors before being 'released'. Maybe tomorrow (3rd, as it was suggested) it will hit the release version (the Bf-109 I expect will be beta for some time though).
  4. Landing parameters seem to be similar to the FW190. come over the runway about 210 with landing gear down and full flaps. Watch the VVI and try to keep touchdown at < 1m/s to avoid bouncing (which seems much less pronounced than the FW190, so that's a plus) Gentle flare for gentle 3 point touchdown. Challenging but not impossible by any means. I have been landing both tonight without doing (entirely) horrible things to them. Nice change for me.
  5. Download it via the Module Manager in the game if you have the Open Beta version installed.
  6. I like it. Landings are still a little iffy for me, Trying to find that sweet spot for touchdown speed, but over all already with just a few attempts it's ending better than my typical FW-190 landing. When I have time I'll look for a tutorial. Silly question. What's the master arm switch at the top of the front dash called in the controls. I looked at weapon master arm, gun master arm, weapon master arm... after scrolling through everything two or three times I still missed it. Other than that all good. Thanks!
  7. Having some fun with AAA. Despite this damage I was able to take out the next wave with the Strela and land once the SAM's spawned by keeping very low on my approach. Yikes.
  8. The DCS: BAE Hawk module, even in the early stages, is outstanding fun. Furthermore VEAO has shown some great customer service over the last few days, including getting everyone access to a pre-Beta build while some issues get worked out, responding to many questions in the forums, and even doing an instruction session. Because of this I have bought a couple extra modules for Christmas. One for a friend and one for a lucky winner here. I am giving away one copy of the DCS: BAE Hawk EFM Module*, preferably to someone who does not already own it. The rules: 1.) You can post ONCE on this thread between now and midnight December 6th EDT (UTC -5:00) to enter. Any additional post will disqualify you. 2.) I looked at past drawings for an idea. I don't even know what was going on in this thread, but I laughed at this post and my idea was born. If you post a drawing you have done of a Hawk it will serve as a second entry. There's no reason to cheat, kwality (yes, with a k) will get you nowhere, just draw to the extent and with the medium that you enjoy and upload it here. ( Remember, a drawing, NOT a picture :) ) 3.) That's it. On Dec. 7th I will use a random number generator to select a post. If your post or drawing number comes up you win.** * The EFM has not been developed yet, but will be released at a later date and this key should allow for free upgrade. ** I will add the number of drawings to the number of posts. As an example, if there are 199 entry posts and 56 drawings I will choose between 2 (this post is 1) and 256. If the number is higher than the maximum post number it will go in order of pictures posted). Good luck! Edit: And in case you want to just post now and add a photo later, that's cool. Just edit your existing post to add the drawing :) Edit: Yes, the drawing should be of a BAE Hawk. No, I do not care if you do it in MS Paint, Photoshop, by hand and scan it in, drawn in the dirt pictured and scanned in, etc. Have fun with it, don't go too crazy, unless you want to. It's just for an extra chance to win the giveaway. Edit: Ells228 has posted saying he and VEAO will graciously provide a second key for the giveaway, meaning that there will now be two winners! Once again proving they're awesome! Thanks guys! :D Edit: And great job on the drawings! These are already pretty great. Just what I was hoping for. I can't wait to see what pops up over the next week. :) Edit: Some of these drawings are awesome! Even some of the black and whites are great! Thanks guys. Totally worth the cost of a license to see all the great art! Edit: And thanks to Rajdary there is a third license in the mix for the giveaway! Thanks for your generosity Rajdary!! 4 more hours guys! Get your drawings in!! Ill post info for the drawing tomorrow. Im going to roll on a TS server around 8PM so if anyone wants to watch they are free to do so :) The drawings are really awesome!!!
  9. Wow 1 m/s. Ok, well thats something to aim for. Certainly slower descent than ive aimed for, ill have to give that some practice.
  10. I was flying the other night and lost my left engine after firing a couple Kh-29T's and some Vikhr's. The bird was heavy now but I was still able to make runs and get my S-25L's and Kh-25ML's off the wings. Sometime after that I sustained another hit and lost half of my right wing. I decided not to tempt fate at this point and dropped my Vikhr's. With no hydaulics, air brakes, or landing gear, I still made it back to base and made a gentle belly landing on the runway. Great plane. I have put the Ka-50 through some incredible torment as well.
  11. Thanks for this!
  12. I think I read somewhere they hit their target something like as little as less than 10% of the time. I made the joke that saying pew pew would be about the same as firing them when we had the plane without working missiles. If you fly 5 times you should only expect 1 missile to hit. On average. It was also meant for non-maneuvering rear aspect attacks. Unaware targets (sadly no such thing in DCS, I think) or big bombers. Ground reflections and the sun could easily confuse it. Here they say 16% from '65-'68. If you fly 10 times, 2 missiles each, with proper conditions, 3 should hit, on average, even at that rate. http://www.donhollway.com/foxtwo/
  13. The key is 75 fps at dk2 resolutions is obtainable. I have a 4k monitor with sli 970s and while i can at times get 75 frames and usually well above 30 i am _far_ from a steady 75 at all times. If its going to take 4k to look good ad 75 fps to not stutter and make people puke, its going to take quite some optimizarion.
  14. Is this happening when you're playing multiplayer only, specifically when you have TeamSpeak up. There is a bad interaction between the Saitek Profiling software for the X-52 Pro (not sure if it is the same or similar) and TeamSpeak, where you need to change 'Default' to 'Keyboard and Mouse Only' (in TeamSpeak) Settings>Options>Hotkeys, bottom right drop down. It does al kinds of daffy things otherwise.
  15. Not the X-52 Pro. Mine also had a problem with the mouse stick intermittently drifting hard right. Plugging and unplugging it 50,000 times (3 or 4 really) would eventually get it to work. Gave it away after getting a warthog and it haunts the new owner eternal as well. I am not too impressed with the Saitek Pro Flight Combat Rudder Pedals either. They have a lot of jitter on the toe breaks, though I set dead zones in the Windows control panel and they seem to work fine. I am not impressed with Saitek products. Can't speak about the X-55 though. Never put my hands on one.
  16. We all accept cares depreciate over time. You would not be happy if there was an unannounced 60% off sale on all new Dodge 1500's (assuming you bought it new, and such a sale would ever happen) two weeks after you bought yours either. One thing we can both agree on, I'd probably pull my back reaching for my wallet for $150 Alpha access to the F/A-18C module as well, possibly even knowing if it gets me only two months of play before it is generally available. Definitely if it was six months. F/A-18C is worth it to me. A MiG-15 on the other hand, not really. But it's different for everyone.
  17. Diapers are a little different. They're a consumable. One could argue that thinking ahead and knowing you're going to need another box fairly soon you might cash in on that deal and buy another box. You could certainly say diapers are expensive and I don't make a lot of money, so I can't afford to do that, and I couldn't argue. But many could probably swing it. There are also multiple manufacturers of diapers. The ones you buy meet your price/quality criteria the best, but if they were constantly doing something that annoyed you you could switch. On the other hand, once I buy a MiG-21Bis module I don't need another. In some rare circumstance some might buy it for a friend who might otherwise not even buy it for themselves if the prices is right. There is also only one MiG-21Bis module in a modern flight sim engine (are there others at all?) There are people among us (me included, guilty as charged) that can't wait to fly it and will pay a certain premium to get it day one. Knowing that the development company will (hopefully) eventually get enough money to recoup their costs and make a profit, I fully expect that they will go after people less interested in the MiG-21Bis. People who wouldn't pay 50, but would pay 40, people who wouldn't pay 40 but would pay 15, etc. If $50 vs $40 means weeks of getting to fly it that is worth it to some. If $50 vs $15 means months, again that is worth it to some. To others it means very little. To me $30 for a handful of days isn't much of a bargain. Lets put it this way, if you could have it a week early for $300 or wait for release for $50 would you buy it? Maybe you could say yes, but I think most would not. Same principal, smaller values of money and bigger values of time. When a company puts something on sale for 60% off, two weeks after it is released, before it's even out of beta, that is both unexpected, and very not worth it to most people. Now, ED and Belsimtek made good on that business faux pas and I certainly don't hold it against them because of that. Reproducing that same scenario seems inadvisable.
  18. Can you share your lua, your monitor resolutions, what you want where, and symptoms? I had some 'fun' writing these not too long ago. Sometimes an extra pair of eyes goes a long way. When I had a 1920x1080 main screen on the right and 1024x768 on the left this is what I used:
  19. Check your monitor settings. I had a dual monitor config that was out of whack (I think it was the aspect ratio that was wrong, so it could happen with single monitor if this was wrong for you as well, I support) whose only noticeable effect was screwed up heat blur. similar to what you see behind the su-25. If nothing else just reset your resolution and let it recalc the aspect ratio, etc. I don't promise it will be what's causing it, but that worked for me.
  20. I leave everything plugged in. Even the TIR pro clip, with its long cable is run through the back of my desk into a draw where I can easily win d it up and tuck it away without unplugging it. And I leave my USB receiver for my headset plugged into it as well.
  21. Can you share? Since they changed to lua.diff files all my throttle has is section for the slider. I'd be interested in doing this for other aircraft as well though. Flaps too if you can share an example. Thanks!
  22. pfft. sub-sonic touchdown, lame :music_whistling:
  23. Create/Start with a mission with a MiG-21Bis loaded with Gunpods. You have the overhead panel to control the gunpods, naturally. Load it in multiplayer (not sure if this is multiplayer specific - this is where I first encountered it and experimented) and rearm. When the panel for the nukes shows up you can not manipulate it. If the plane is unarmed at mission start and I load a nuke I don't have this problem, but if I switch over to gunpods I can not manipulate the panel for those.
  24. I have reproduced it on a new mission. Create/Start with a mission with a MiG-21Bis loaded with Gunpods. You have the overhead panel to control the gunpods, naturally. Load it in multiplayer (not sure if this is multiplayer specific) and rearm. When the panel for the nukes shows up you can not manipulate it. If the plane is unarmed at mission start and I load a nuke I don't have this problem, but if I switch over to gunpods I can not manipulate the panel for those. Something is horked.
  25. You misunderstand. I can put an Rn-28 or Rn-24 on the plane. But as I said I can not flip any of the switches on the overhead panel after it's put on the plane.
