Would like to make a high fidelity Airframe.
xaoslaad replied to Dafflesdoob's topic in How To Mod for DCS World
Thanks Cobra. Sound advise, I'm sure. Any attempt from a new group is likely to involve a learning period and a reset or two as they learn their way around. Thank you as well Buzzles. I'm sure the demo will be helpful too. -

Cool. Well, as I said, I am game. I don't know what the first steps would be, but I'd be happy to start helping sort that out and getting it off the ground. -

I'd be interested in collaborating with a small group on a module. I'm fairly technical and scripting is no problem, programming I can pick up easily enough. Not artistic at all so unless you want a jet flown by a stick figure I'm not game for any of the modeling. I can manage math. Linear algebra was a much stronger point than Calculus, but I still mustered two semesters with decent grades. Rusty, but I can relearn and comprehend. I can put in several hours in the evenings multiple days a week (3-4 days, 5 plus hours a day) during the week. Often probably more. -
Worth it.

Great information! Thank you for the response. More excited and hopeful for a W than ever!
-
It does sound sweet. It's probably not something you ever see in real life. Who knows maybe it is.. I was under the impression the Z could carry 16 hellfires, whereas the W can only carry 8? Is that true or false? Also, whether 8 or 16 can the W carry TOWS and Hellfires at the same time? Like 4 ea. on opposite wings? Even if possible would it ever be done, or would the weight difference be too much, or some other reason?

Questions about DCS and US Armed Force
xaoslaad replied to Dudeinthesun's topic in Military and Aviation
Btw, I believe I've heard of even 'legitimate' flights have been met by military police on the taxiway because of botched paperwork. Taxiing an aircraft without permission... forget it. Even if you know how to prep (something not covered in the game) an A-10C for flight, somehow manage to get to one, start it up, and start taxiing.... good luck with your court appearance is all I'm going to say. -
Questions about DCS and US Armed Force
xaoslaad replied to Dudeinthesun's topic in Military and Aviation
They didn't change any procedures to my knowledge. Some stuff is classified and not modeled (IFF is one example I think) but otherwise it's modeled to the extent they could. -
Being ADD at lunch and skipped through. I don't think I made it to 5 ;) But thanks for confirming :)

At about 3:22 is that grass blowing in the wind? Holy cow if so!

What did this model spitfire have for armament? 2 20mm and 2 or 4 MG?
-
First thing is the flight starts too low over some mountains. Wingman 3 starts just smashing into a mountain. Always. Starting the flight a thousand feet higher saves the day. The CAS flights also seem a little loony. Doing nothing or engaging the hawks rather than doing CAS.

Incorrect maximum fuel weight and service ceiling value
xaoslaad replied to JOKERACTS's topic in General Questions
Everyone always just passes off Wikipedia as unreliable. Usually statement of facts like service ceiling is followed by a reference. Consider the reference not Wikipedia. In this case they state up front data was taken from a snapshot from the USAF website/factsheet, Jane's, and another. I consider the USAF a pretty good source for information about the F-15... This is a skill you should have practiced in high school. -
Try turning off labels if you have them on. I notice a huge performance hit with them on. It's all the more incentive to learn to fly without them ;)

The interface in 8.1 is less jarring to someone used to Win 7 than 8 was. It's not my favourite (I'm not even a windows user save for the flight sims) but it works well and is stable.

Ya - I have had crohns for a long time (though not as severe as most since surgery as a teen and with long bouts of remission - long enough that I got into and through 4 years in the USMC without issue) - anyway I did get sick a couple times during my first go at college and one of my professors insinuated the same after I ran out of her class to go puke. To be sure when the MM question came up on the ballot in MA with crohns listed right in the question I of course voted a big fat yes, though I have not had need of it up to this point. Bonine/Dramanine would probably be both cheaper and easier though it was (mostly) a joke and I don't expect Id actually need anything.

How Real is it and how effectiv is the real A-10C?
xaoslaad replied to EF2000's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
HMCS simulation with Oculus Rift. That would be pretty sweet. Having the contraption on the head would be all the more simulation :) -

xaoslaad replied to EF2000's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
USMC doesn't fly A-10C's ;) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Marine_Corps_Aviation#Current_aircraft Don't get me wrong, they're likely to work closely with Army and Marine personnel. But fly them, they do not. -

xaoslaad replied to EF2000's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
There is a great a mission called FOB Vedka that you can download, that to me is an awesome show of how the A-10C can do its job. You are doing CAS for a convoy for the first half and then you go down the road and clear out some other threats around the area. With the fire fights, explosions, directions from ground, etc. you can be amazingly effective with just guns and rockets, never mind guided munitions. -
I can't seem to bring it up for the Fw 190...

I did a quick takeoff and landing video so people can see what I am doing to get the thing off and on the ground now that I can do it mostly without leaving parts of my plane behind. Still needs lots of work (and out of interest of being fast I was way to close to initiate my landing and floated down the runway way too far when landing, but I know that), but with wide views people can see where and what all my controls are doing. My hope is that A) people still having a lot more trouble can learn something and B) People doing a lot better can critique what I am doing and teach me a thing or two. http://youtu.be/NUxJQAgsMkw

Ya, and that may be what's getting me and other people, if you need to get a section (or the entire plane as it may be - I know very little about how the DM works) to xx% integrity before damage shows. Maybe a sticky post somewhere with a general overview of how the DM works (maybe something similar already exists) in general would make people less frustrated when it comes to rectifying what they think should be happening with what they're seeing. Even the post above this one demonstrates the "the canon should be blowing bits off / why should it not be necessary to hit critical points" arguement/counter. You might have blown a bit off, it just wasn't a very critical part, so it doesn't necessarily get rendered. Anyway, I don't take it too hard, from that same video I can demonstrate what a solid hit does in short order, so I just try to save my bullets for worthwhile shots.

Obvisouly not a track, and I may be making a bad assumption that what I see here is canon hitting with the small explosion. Then I take a good look at his belly and nothing... I did get him, but I was still a little surprised that left not a spot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxd0TyPpfEw&t=0m34s

W I would beta test the death out of that for them too, if they would let me.

Corvus what was your vertical velocity and speed for that landing. The tutorial wags put said ~2.5/190, but I still get bounce around there. That looked way more sexy than the crap I'm doing.
