And LHD's. Theyre capable of choppers, harriers, Ospreys, etc. It would be cool if it could launch LCAC's too. Support amphibious vehicles going up on shore. Especially if we got the Whiskey Cobra.

What happenned to fuel tanks dropped over SE Asia
xaoslaad replied to xaoslaad's topic in Military and Aviation
http://www.warhistoryonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/11/Fuel-tanks-jettisoned-by-US-jets-in-Vietnam-War-repurposed-by-locals.jpg Here is a picture with a plate with specification of one. Considering everything up to B-52's were flown in Vietnam I guess there could be some large tanks around. -
I use Fedora (20 at present) for whatever I can and Windows 8.1 for sims.

I'm pretty sure the Mig-21 is to blame. I set up a mission with the one mig to practice landing in the mission editor and even that takes for bleeding ever with the mig to load. change it to something else, no problem again. Maybe when they cut out all those poly's in the next patch it will load faster.

'JUST' edge he says, lol. The holy grail of our simm'ing universe right now :megalol:

Right, so being a flight sim hobbyist (or any game for that matter) should preclude you from being an OS and/or computing hobbyist? Should I really want or have to have two computers to muck around with my systems innards on a more frequent than average basis or repartition or install new hard drives to check out other operating systems? Virtualization makes a lot of that easier these days, but there are still reasons for wanting to mess around, including just simple learning. Starforce assumes you're Joe user who can barely turn on his computer.

Get out of my head!!!! I do the same thing, lol. Right down to the 500Gb Samsung SSD and old 500Gb spinning disk, so I heartily endorse your advice. In my case I just use the Windows backup and recovery tool (I forget what it's called in Windows 8 but it's hidden in the File History section of the Control Panel) and have (not with this hard drive) used it in the past to restore to recover from a failed disk. It's free, assuming you have the external drive, and can save A LOT of misery.

Night Missions Possible for Ka-50 and Others

This is a multi-player example - the one I was mentioning earlier, in case you're interested. Repel ground assault on Senaki-Kolkhi.miz -
Night Missions Possible for Ka-50 and Others
xaoslaad replied to ZoomBoy27's topic in Mission Editor
Thanks man. I just created a mission for my friends and the Ka-50's were getting neglected because people had to beg each other for LUU-2B's. With this an outpost and arty gun on an overlooking hill fill in nicely and it works great. Much thanks for the detailed walkthrough. Rep inbound. -
Now that I've had some time to fly this thing I am in awe. It is amazing. I nearly spit coffee all over my screen when it said there were several controls for breaking/taxiing and it'll light them up - and half the cockpit lights up. Comedy gold. :megalol: But ya, the whole thing is like that. It's great. It's amazing. I just wonder how anyone ever manages to fly the thing in real life :) I've managed Gun strafing, Nuke, and Kh-66 so far along with landings, taxiing, and takeoff and it's just so amazing. My next goal is to figure out how I keep cutting out the engine :D Thanks guys! Great times ahead. :joystick:

If you're looking to replace the entire disk you don't have to pay anything. Use a Linux LiveCD from just about any distro and use dd to dump the contents of one disk in entirety to the other if the new disk is big enough. Then you can just go into windows Disk Management and expand the partition if necessary. If you need to shrink the partition or prefer a graphical interface there is always gparted, available on most Linux LiveCD's as well. Yes, these utilities work on FAT/NTFS partitions. If you just want to put your existing install onto the SSD one easy way to do this is moving the _contents_ of C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics to a temp folder. Shutdown, install your SSD, staple your computer back up, boot. Right click on "This PC", "My Computer", "Computer", or whatever your Win release is calling it. Click Manage on the context menu. Go to Storage -> Disk Management on the left menu, make sure your SSD is formatted (think it needs to be NTFS for this to work) Right click the partition Select Change Drive Letter and Paths on the Context menu Select Mount in the following empty NTFS folder in the new window, and set it up to be C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics. Move the contents back into the folder. Now your registry settings, links, blah blah blah are still correct and the game is on an SSD. I did this for a friend who had a 120GB SSD hanging around that wasn't big enough for his system disk, but plenty enough for DCS. Worked fine.

Heres the info. Guess it was 75 not 120, which exaggerates motion. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Field_of_View

Oh, man, I have no issue with 99.99% games, but Half Life 2 made me want to die. Never could get through much of it back in the day. I read later it was because they used a 120 degree FOV or something and that there was a 'cheat' to change it to 90, but never tried. Maybe you can dig that up though and it will help. Given what it did with a monitor HL2 would probably make me flat out barf.

Were you using a DK1 or DK2? I have heard the DK2 is much better about sickness for a number of reasons. I tried both and I didn't notice very much difference as it was just a few minutes with each. I wasn't using either long enough to decide if it would make me sick, but the short time didn't get to me.

I got to try OR with a couple games today (not DCS unfortunately) and it's absolutely amazing. I can't wait to get one and run DCS with it. It will be amazing!

Bought as soon as I saw the forum this morning. Hope there are many many more sales to follow for you guys this morning! Spammed my friends and let them know it's purchasable to try and help the cause :D

If I lose the HUD I can usually get ballpark with the HMS, and then it's not so hard to get on target. You are right that otherwise, without the HUD, to figure out where it's pointing is tough.

No pre-purchase? I want to give you money and memorize my license number for release day :D

Are Su-25T Wingmen able to use the LLTV pod?
xaoslaad replied to xaoslaad's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
No, he literally just flies straight into a mountain as soon as you unpause. It's not several seconds later, not 3 seconds later. Unpause looking towards him and watch him hit a mountain immediately. You have no hope of accessing the radio menu to save him. He's just starting too low. Seriously. It's a quick mission, fly it, try it. See for yourself. -

xaoslaad replied to xaoslaad's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I know how to tell AI to engage targets of opportunity. They just don't. And this mission doesn't leave ample time to sit and coddle each wingman and help him find his targets. The 2 with Phantasmagorias are capable of taking out the hawks and others on their own. What I am seeing is the AI refusing to engage when ordered to take out targets of orpportunity. Wingman 4, with the LLTV, negative, negative, negative, blah blah. I see the CAS flights and any wingmen still alive at the end flying around with racks of weapons. If you _really_ need a track to see it I can produce, but given that it's a quick mission it can't be that hard to reproduce it... -

xaoslaad replied to xaoslaad's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
I should add that just rolling back the time a few hours gives a massive change in experience. AI aircraft become useful. The tanks also start firing their missiles as well though, and I don't know that that is desired or possible at night, so it may be off balancing taking that approach. -
Are AI wingmen able to use the LLTV pod? I have been trying to play the Difficult CAS quick mission, which seems to have other issues (one wingman is set up to fly straight into a mountain on start, for example) and what I typically see is the aircraft with Phantasmagoria's attacking radar targets while the ones with LLTV's just orbit with a full compliment of weapons and no place to go. I literally have more targets to destroy than weapons on that one and there is just about no help coming from the AI units.
