Worthy opponent of the MiG-21 :P

Thought this may be interesting for some. It's an effective way to land a fighter if you aren't confident with the stall speed, or if you're carrying bombs it's a much safer way to land. I recorded and uploaded this because I see a lot of people asking what's the best/easiest way to approach and not stall in the Mustang, and I hope this can be of use to those people.

I can see where you're coming from, I also am greatly anxious for the release but without the current Leatherneck team, the project would have died if they didn't start over and continue it without any income. Also, we do have a general time frame. Read the first post of this thread; they have told us all they probably can as the project is now in ED's hands, and I can guarantee you that the Leatherneck team wants to see the release even more than you or me. I agree that more pics/vids would be nice but I look at it this way: they don't owe us anything! It's us that thank them for keeping the project alive, and not rushing it! I can assure you, a buggy release is more disappointing than a delayed release.

Just feed us with eye candy..... and we'll shut up! :P

Roar of the Merlin - A Brand New Sound Experience
Sceptre replied to Charly_Owl's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
I will never go back to stock sounds, especially since having seen a few P-51Ds in real life and they sound EXACTLY like this mod, when you do a flyby. And I just don't get that feeling of shivers down my spine when I fire the brownings in the stock game, however I do with Diveplane's mod and it really brings out the true power of those guns! -
When doing a normal approach, keep in mind that the P-51 is one of the only prop planes in the world where you DO NOT use 100% prop pitch for landing. Infact, keep it around 2600 RPM because if you need to add power for a go around, and you are at 100% pitch, the sheer power of the engine will cause you to bank left and crash because the Mustang does not have enough rudder authority to keep level. You can also try a military low altitude break approach. Hard to explain but easy to pull off, and it works in every fixed wing fighter not just the Mustang. -You want to come along paralell and off to the right of the runway slightly, about 300MPH, 2600RPM and make sure you are low to the ground. -When your reach 1/3rd of the runway's length, bring the throttle to idle and leave the pitch lever where it is. -Bank left and make a U turn whilst climbing until your are flying the opposite direction you started and at about 150MPH. You want to get as much altitude as you can. (Do not touch the power!) -Drop the gear and flaps when the plane reaches 150 -Descend and turn left until you are flying above the runway in a landing configuration -You want to start touching down at around the same point that you started your left turn in step 2 -fly low and slow above the runway and gently stall the aircraft onto the surface -squeeze the brakes; slamming them on will cause you to flip If you want a vid on how to do this, I'll make one because it is an extremely effective way to land military grade planes especially the older ones, and you don't even need to know the stall speeds etc. *Note, it's better to not use any rudder trim for a landing in the Mustang, unless there is a crosswind or other factors that would require it (i.e, damaged plane)

For now you could edit the "F4 key view" camera position on the KC-135 to place it where the boom operator sits for some squadron cinematics etc

Happy birthday Canada, from New Zealand :drink: :gun_smilie: :holiday: :drink: :smilewink:

This reminds me of that Flanker mission in LOMAC where it puts your and your wingman against 8 F-16 block 52s, and expects you to kill them all and still have enough ammo to kill a bunch of A-10s, while avoiding a patriot SAM site. I thought this was normal for the flanker for a while and that I was a terrible fighter pilot. Don't expect to be able to kill waves of Russians in your A-10A, remember it is an old plane and not designed to fly through heavy hostile AA environments and near enemy fighters. Best way to test your skill realistically in FC3 is probably multiplayer or user made missions. Some of the more recent official campaigns approved for the sim by ED (Huey and Mi-8) are really good, and don't expect you to do a bunch of stuff that real pilots wouldn't do.
-
I think ED's goal is to have a setup like they do with the Su-25A, F-15C and A-10A with the rest of the FC3 planes. Give them all AFM and 6DoF pits and sell them as standalone medium fidelity modules.
-
FC2 and blackshark 1 are the same as our current versions, except the older ones are standalone games and donot work in dcs world. Also, the graphics of FC2 and bs1 are outdated.

Because you don't get more bad ass than Cold War Russian tech.

Will the Sabre be a complicated Jet to learn?
Sceptre replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
my favourite IL-2 mod! But no way am I flying this over DCS: Sabre :joystick: -
Very interesting post, thank you. I've always thought that Russian technology is under rated, and that it's simple but very effective :)

I hope EDGE supports realistic canopy scratches :D

USA was spending 11 million dollars per day in the Vietnam war, I shudder to think what it is now.

I read somewhere that the AIM-9B will be available, but don't quote me on that. I'll see if I can find the post.

All the modules have at least an advanced flight model, with the exception of the Fulcrum and the Flankers. When you cycle through, for example, bomb intervals in the Su-25A, you can see the switches move, but I think the Grach is the only plane that has this feature. The other planes tell you in the HUD. IMO the planes are definitley worth getting, because if you buy FC3 now, you get the F-15C in its full PFM glory, and the Flanker will soon have that and you will be able to upgrade for free. Also the non clickables are excellent if you just want to move mud in a CAS jet without going through a lengthy startup and tutorials. The A-10A don't forget, is much older avionics wise and does not have the ability to drop PGMs such as the Charlie Warthog, so it's really easy to learn to use. From your post you said that your favourite DCS aircraft are the modern ASM/PFM and I agree with you entirely, these are my favourite too. But as an owner of all things with the name "DCS," you should definitely give FC3 a shot. If it's not your cup of tea, it will be a blast when EDGE/Nevada comes out and the Su-27 gets its long awaited PFM :)

The GAU-8 fires 70 rounds per second.... does anyone know how much 1 30mm DU shell costs?
-
I always use manual Countermeasures, with 4 chaff and 2 flares every 0.25 seconds, and set it to fire 4 or 5 times. Works like a charm, and I rarely get show down by missiles with this on. Also, it's make another program so slowly dispense chaff when being spiked by an EWR or getting locked up from long range.
-
Are they going to do the same with the Flanker when the new flight model is released?
-
I'd rather have a MiG-27..... the Su-22 looks almost identical to the MiG-21.
