Jabara's Sabre...first skinning attempts.
VH-Rock replied to BoNidle's topic in Screenshots and Videos
Bo, great to see you made it over to DCS! It's nice to see another familiar face from IL-2 - Look forward to downloading your skins. Rob -
So, we haven't had a lot of time to fly lately but, this evening, we took the chance to take the F-86s up for a brief flight in the Virtual Aerobatics server. The flying isn't perfect as we really haven't had more than 3 or 4 flights in the Sabre, but we thought it would be nice to show something.

Fantastic! Great to see some more progress :)

Server is back up
-
Hi Roadrunner - that's a great idea! We'll look at doing that in the future. I'm afraid we've always been against air starts for anything other than the race aircraft. And now, unfortunately, some bad news:
-
Hi Julien, that's some fantastic feedback - Thank you! The mission restarts every 2 hours and this is well advertised in the server itself. Ocassionaly, the server does crash and, in such cases, we manually restart it as soon as we are able to. If, for some reason, we can not restart immediately, we usually do post on our facebook page to let people know the server is down and we're working on it. I'm sure we can do a little more and post on the website itself without too much trouble. The only other down time is when we update the server and, again, we usually post on our Facebook page when we take the server down. I will start posting on the website more, for those who don't have Facebook. With regards to mission rotation, it is something that I would love to do. Unfortunately, there is no dedicated server software for dcs so, what we're working with, is really very limited. We have several custom scripts which our team has made to make our server more manageable. One of which, the auto recovery script, automatically starts the server with the most recent mission if it detects that dcs has crashed. We're going to run into trouble soon with regards to aircraft on the server as more modules come out. We're simply running out of spawn slots and, with no way to rotate missions, we're running out of options. With regards to the weather, I'd love to do it, but I'm not sure it's possible with the dynamic weather system in dcs. The time in the mission is another unavoidable problem. Due to the instability of dcs multiplayer, particularly with over 15 clients, we have to have the mission set to restart evert 2 hours and, as mentioned previously, the server has to load the same mission each time. If I had my way, I would have the server running on a 12 hour cycle from 8am to 8pm. Perhaps, when edge is released (and we get some official dedicated server software), we could extend the server life a little.

In all honesty, Joey, I couldn't tell you without looking. There's been so many updates done to the mission, they may well have been rotated. We do try to swap skins every so often to give people the chance to fly something different.

Thanks bud, will look into that

I'm afraid I don't know the Huey too well - is that an option in the ME? If so, we could look into it.

Exhaust?

Sorry, the ping limit was decided after a lot of trial and error with various settings. Unfortunately, higher pings do cause a lot of lag and can disrupt gameplay in the server. Whilst we know there are a lot of people that lie just outside that limit, we do our best to keep the server as usable as possible.

Have you tried changing your username? If we have banned somebody with the same name, it may be affecting you.

Will get something over to you :-)

Massive thank you to everybody who came by to see DCS over the weekend - we had a fantastic time and it was great to see so much interest shown in flight sims. Roll on September!

Sorry bud, That was just a picture I'd put in DCS as my background ;)

Thank you :)

DCS: P-51D Basic aerobatic maneuvers, video tutorial
VH-Rock replied to kobac's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Hi Guys, Sorry, it's been a busy couple of days. I'm afraid we've never really looked at teaching aerobatics before. I have trained people to fly formation aerobatics before, but that is usually on an individual basis and depends entirely on how much time I have. The reason I've never looked at tutorials before is that, for me atleast, aerobatics is more about flying with feel and not by numbers... I'll be honest, when we fly our routine, I only really look at the entry speed for the first loop. The rest of the time, I'm flying by feel. Generally, I can tell when something isn't right or if we're a little slow and, if that becomes apparent, I'll look at the gauges to see what we can do. I'll explain a little further... During our routine, we fly 2 loops; one at the start and one right near the end. When we first run in, we're still holding roughly 50% of fuel. By the end of the routine, we're down to around 30%. That means that we have 25% fuel in the right hand tank and only 5% in the left hand wing tank. The process for doing a perfectly straight loop is quite different at the start and end of our routine. The other thing is that the entry speed, how much you pull, how quickly the onset of the pull is, when you choose to apply the rudder etc... can all effect the outcome of the loop. Simply put, there is no simple way to say do X, Y or Z and you will fly a perfect loop every time. Perhaps in older sims it was possible, but certainly not in DCS. The best tip you can possibly give you is to just get time in the aircraft and develop a feel for her. Once you understand the Mustang, she's so easy to fly :) I'll be happy to fly with you guys if you can catch me online. If you don't know, along with Pman, I own the Virtual Aerobatics Public Server that's up 24/7. Our teamspeak is virtual-aerobatics.teamspeak3.com. There are some very experienced P-51 pilots that frequent the server and our teamspeak server who are more than happy to help new pilots (on all aircraft), along with myself and Pman when we get time to fly. One thing we're looking at doing is adding much more cockpit footage to our videos and live displays. -
DCS: P-51D Basic aerobatic maneuvers, video tutorial
VH-Rock replied to kobac's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Hi Kobac, Aerobatics in the P-51 is great fun when you get the hang of it! Aerobatics in the Mustang is all about energy management and being smooth with the controls. For the record, I usually use max constant (46" Manifold Pressure, 2700 RPM with the radiators set to automatic). When flying loops, or anything vertical for that matter, I usually use an entry speed of 350Mph and pull up from about 150 feet. The altitude on top of the loop should be 3500 ft. Rolls are relatively simple - Pitch nose up 5 - 10° at 250mph or above and use full left / right aileron. I've attached a video of me flying aerobatics in the P-51 with both external and helmet cam views. -
Can't believe I only just saw this - That looks incredible! Really can't wait to try it out

First video with our new left wing pilot, James 'Kestrel' Read!

Looking fantastic! That's something I've been wondering too - how will the throttle mount to the average desk? Getting better and better every time!
