Virtual-Aerobatics.Com 1 Year Anniversary Air Show - Feb 16th 2014!
VH-Rock replied to VH-Rock's topic in Community News
In just over one month, on February 16th 2014, the virtual skies will once again reverberate to the sound of piston powered and jet aircraft being thrown around in some heart thumping displays. That’s right folks, as a part of our one year anniversary celebrations, we are hosting our own virtual air show. The last 12 months has been an epic roller-coaster. A brief idea between to newly acquainted friends lead to the creation of the Virtual Aerobatics website, server & Teamspeak. With many new friends and prospering relationships, we have built a community that continues to grow and attract new faces. Our air show represents the results of a year of hard work but every minute ,and every penny, spent has been well worth it! We’re proud to announce that this years show will feature many new acts, aswell as some well established air-show favourites! Amongst the new comers is VTB_Ray, with his ‘Bob Hoover Inspired’ P-51 solo routine, The Great War Birds Historic Flight, performing a Spitfire Mk IX solo, and a previously unseen in DCS World demo team – More on that at a later date! Many Air Show favourites return including the Virtual Patriots Jet Team, Virtual Blue Angels and the Virtual Black Diamond Jet Team. Be sure to join us on February 16th for a fantastic day of Flying! Below is the Preliminary Schedule. As always, everything is subject to change. *** ALL TIMES GMT *** Time | Team 14:00: VAT "Berkuts" Mig-29 Solo 14:20: VEAO Hawk Solo 14:50: VAT King Cobras 15:20: Shahdoh’s P-51 Solo 15:40: Angels & Demons 16:10: Virtual Patrouille Suisse 17:10: VEAO Typhoon Solo 17:30: –BREAK– 19:00: Ray – Bob Hoover Routine 19:20: A-10C + Heritage Flight 19:35: Virtual Black Diamond Jet Team 20:15: Viper East – F-16 20:35: GWBHF Spitfire Solo 21:00: Virtual Patriots Jet Team 22:00: Virtual Blue Angels -
GWBHF Spitfire Mk IX A little update - here is our Spitfire Mk IX! We bought a model from Turbosquid, which I then set about upgrading and adding some more detail too. I've spent around 22 hours over the last 2 days retexturing the model from from scratch... (I used to a LOT of skinning for IL-2, so texturing for DCS is a nice change on some higher res textures :) ) For now, she will use the Mustang FM and cockpit.

45" manifold and 2700 RPM throughout for the lead. Wings adjust manifold pressure to stay in position :)

Questions regarding the stability and control of the Mustang
VH-Rock replied to Pajeezy's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Indeed - How people perceived you on an internet forum is entirely dependent on, and susceptible to, the register in which you choose to write and the 'tone' of voice which is perceived by your target audience. So far, each of your posts in this thread have come across as aggressive when what you "know" was question, and ignorant when people have people have offered you a solution to your problems. - There are ways to criticise a product, and peoples opinions of it, in a polite manner. For all I know, you could be a very nice guy, in person, but, that's not how you've come across on here. In the past, we've had people come on these forums with a similar problem to the on you're experiencing. We've shown them the videos, given them a few tips and, within the space of 2 weeks, this plane that was once 'impossible to fly' and that 'Stalls every time I try to turn' is suddenly the best flight sim experience they've had! You think the real P-51 is so easy to fly? I've seen a real P-51 enter an accelerated stall at an air show once, 100% not intended and she was being flown by an extremely experienced pilot. Now, I am not claiming DCS: P-51 to be 100% like flying a real P-51 - Nor am I saying that it is absolutely perfect. But it is, without doubt, the most accurate in sim experience of flying a P-51 you can get. My own experience of meeting some of the worlds most experience, and popular, P-51 pilots has proven that to me - whether you choose to believe their views is entirely up to you. Of course, it's never going to feel exactly the same, but your missing the point completely... The sims job is to, in effect, get the aircraft's flight model nailed which, as far as I'm concerned, they have. Until you start flying DCS P-51 with a floor mount stick, the exact same length as P-51's, with force feedback equal to what you experience in a real Mustang, you're not going to get the full effect. That is a deficiency in your chosen hardware, not the DCS Sim itself. Even when you do have that, you're still not going to feel the aircraft moving... Your expectations are far to high - what you're asking for is impossible. DCS P-51 is marketed as the most accurate representation of the P-51 Mustang in a flight sim, because it is. -
Questions regarding the stability and control of the Mustang
VH-Rock replied to Pajeezy's topic in DCS: P-51D Mustang
Indeed, I personally have been present when the following pilots have flown DCS P-51: Steve Hinton - Without question, the most experienced warbird pilot around Steve Hinton Jr - Current 5 time Reno Air Race World Champion (All in P-51's) Stephen Grey - Has owned and flown 4 P-51s, extremely experienced pilot. Nick Grey - Regularly flies The Fighter Collection's P-51 Dan Friedkin - Owns 8 P-51s, flies them regularly, 1000+ hours on type, current right wing pilot for the Bremont Horsemen. Ed Shipley - Over 2000 hours on type, current left wing pilot for the Bremont Horsemen Matt Nightingale - Extremely experienced warbird restorer and pilot. None of these are 'stories on the internet' for us - Myself and Pman were present when these pilots tried DCS and spoke to them directly after. Infact, with the exception of Nick Grey, they all flew DCS on my system that I'm sitting at home using now... All of them loved DCS and felt that it gave the most accurate representation of a Mustang in a sim to date. Dan Friedkin did the most in depth test of DCS, taking the Mustang up and he was trying out various stalls to see if it matched his expectations - In each case, it did. One thing he said he struggled with was the lack of feel which, which is the case for any flight sim as there is no physical way for us to feel the movement of the aircraft. So, having personally witnessed some of the most experienced P-51 Pilots around fly DCS and not witnessed a single major complaint, I'm thoroughly convinced by their feedback. Nick Grey once said that you needed to have 'Silk hands' to fly the Mustang well... In reference to people saying that the slightest movement causes an accelerated stall, I refer you to this video of me leading my wingman through some formation aerobatics. If she was really as unstable as is being claimed, this would be simply impossible... The best tip I can give you is to get some stick time, she's beautiful when you understand her -

Tonight, The Virtual Horsemen flew with the VAT Angels & Demons - great flight! Screenshots by SkyHawk -
I'm afraid I haven't had the chance to try out 1.2.7 yet, but I will be interested to see if my game stutters. Currently, It never does. I only fly in the VA server which regularly has 30+ players in and there's no issues at all for me. We'll have to see how it goes when I get home :)
-
Virtual Aerobatics will be updated tonight :)
-
Well folks, the 1.2.7 Beta is out! We'll be updating the server as soon as possible in hope of improved network play. If you see the server down for an extended period of time, this is probably why. We'll let you know as soon as the server is back up! VA Team.

Hi Skulleader, I've seen multiple options used from real P-51 pilots in videos and asked them before too... Some like to use the full 3000rpm available for the aero-braking effect and some use 2500 RPM (Some probably use other settings too). I suppose, in all reality, as long as you get the aircraft back on the ground safely and manage the temperatures sufficiently, it doesn't make a huge amount of difference. Personally, I use 2500 RPM

One feature that we've wanted on the VA website for a while was a fully working downloads area where we could host all the skins used in the server (with authors permission), Missions & Mods. Today, I have finally managed to implement a working system and, over the next few days, we'll begin to add content to the website. Rock.

As Pete said, we normally go to Dux 3 times a year. Dates for 2014 are as follows: The D-Day Anniversary Air Show is on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May Flying Legends Air Show is on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 July The Duxford Air Show is on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September It's great to see progress being made with your project :) Rock

Cheers guys - I thought the Helmet Cam might be a nice view. I'm hoping to do something similar with the VH training videos we're planning to release :) piXel, I don't know whether you noticed, but I am actually using your cockpit mod. Nice work, sir!

Virtual-Aerobatics.Com 1 Year Anniversary Air Show - Feb 16th 2014!
VH-Rock replied to VH-Rock's topic in Community News
Thanks for the kind words Maverick, it's been a blast. There's been a few moments where we've felt like pulling our hair out but, for the most part, it's a great thing to be a part of :) -
February 16th 2014 will mark one year since we launched the Virtual Aerobatics dedicated server & website. The past year has been a simply incredible experience for us all here at Virtual Aerobatics. A small site and server has grown into a fantastic community where pilots of all abilities learn new skills and share those skill with one another. To celebrate our 1st anniversary, we will be hosting our first virtual air show featuring aerobatic teams and solo pilots who have supported us from the start and helped develop our community into what it has become. A participants list will be released closer to the show but, needless to say, it will be a very special event with many of the most popular teams from the DCS / Lock On community. A day of top quality flying and other celebratory events is being planned with teams such as the ‘Virtual Black Diamond Jet Team‘, ‘Virtual Horsemen‘ (doing their first full 3 ship routine since moving to DCS) & the VAT ‘Angels & Demons’ already confirmed. Some incredible solo demonstrations are also planned including VEAO‘s Hawk Solo, Shahdoh’s P-51 solo, VTB_Ray’s ‘Bob Hoover Routine’ & Sawamura in the ‘VAT Berkuts’ Mig29 solo. As with VFAT this year, the event will be stream on our ‘Live Events Area‘ and our teamspeak server will be open to all. More will be released closer to event – We look forward to seeing on Sunday Feb 16th 2014

And that's a wrap! Thanks everybody for joining us over the the last few days! This was, without doubt, the busiest weekend we've had at VA since our founding in February, with over 1600 unique connections to the stream page and a very busy Teamspeak server. We'll soon be writing up a full report on the weekend and contacting our competition winners. We hope to see you all again soon!

I took P-51D 'Moonbeam McSwine' up for an energetic solo display in the late afternoon sun. I thought I'd show you the show not only from the ground, but also exactly how I saw it from the cockpit.
-
Well, what an incredible start to VFAT 2013 that was! We saw some fantastic flying and that amazing community atmosphere was buzzing from start to finish. Today, we see some of the large display teams take to the skies, including our good friend the 'VAT Angels & Demons, who regularly fly in the Virtual-Aerobatics.Com Server. The flying kicks off today at 12:00 GMT, we hope to see you there for some more amazing flying and prize giveaways. http://www.virtual-aerobatics.com/live-shows
