Hi guys, I'll look at getting our videos hosted on Vimeo too, to see if that can solve the copyright issues. Thanks for letting me know, I'll see what we can do :) @Stonehouse, Thank you for the compliments. I'm afraid, at the minute, we have no plans to release any of our aircraft for a few reasons. The first, is that our aircraft have been developed purely for our aerobatic team. This means that they have no working weapons, no damage model, a very basic collision model and all of our aircraft fly similarly to the P-51 Mustang. They also all use the P-51 cockpit (For now - we're working on getting custom cockpits working). For the purpose of formation aerobatics, they work absolutely fine. Combat however, would be a completely different matter. If we were to ever consider releasing these aircraft, we would have to spend considerably more time working on all these extra details to get them fit for combat use by the community (Which is what I would assume most of the community would want a Spitfire for). Finally, I used to work for a mod team in IL-2 which released lots of aircraft to the community. Whilst we enjoyed seeing people fly our aircraft, there were always those members of the community that had nothing but negative comments and demands towards the developers. I see the same attitude in some members here towards the official 3rd party devs and, tbh, we just don't want the hassle of coming home from work and having to read through all of that... As I mentioned above, these aircraft are built to suit a purpose - the purpose of flying formation aerobatics. If we released them, a lot of people would complain about them not having X,Y or Z or this little detail being completely wrong... We started modding to bring something unique to our air shows. I don't think a lot of people realise just how much time and effort it takes to get mods working in DCS. We've spent a considerable amount of money and a vast amount of time working to get where we are today. We still have a long way to get before we would consider something we have made to be ready for release... Afterall, we only started learning how to do this in January. Maybe you'll see something released from us next year if we're comfortable with our work.

That must have been awesome to see!

One of the best things about making your own mods is getting to do cool flights like this. Last night, all 4 members of our development team took to the air in some of our Spitfires for some formation work and a tail chase. Make sure you turn the volume up - the sound is incredible! Indeed Kuky, I will certainly purchase the module again upon it's completion, even though I already backed the funding campaign. Flight sim developers in the modern world deserve to be supported :)

Very honourable, Cobra - You have my full support! :)

Looking better and better - Eagerly awaiting!

Virtual-Aerobatics.Com 1 Year Anniversary Air Show - Feb 16th 2014!
VH-Rock replied to VH-Rock's topic in Community News
Hi Folks, Unfortunately, we have some bad news. It appears that many of the replays from the Virtual-Aerobatics.Com 1 Year Anniversary Air Show have not saved correctly on Livestream and will, therefore, not be available for you to watch. We do apologise for the inconvenience, we know many of you who missed the show wanted to catch up and many teams wanted to keep the replays for their own records. We are sorry, nobody is more disappointed than us - There's nothing we can do. However, We can not let that detract from a hugely successful weekend. Rob. The available replays are here: http://www.livestream.com/virtualairshows/folder?dirId=e07dcac4-2c80-4a56-86aa-ee16170d2f09 -

What an incredible weekend! The amount of support we've seen for Virtual-Aerobatics.Com these last few days has been simply staggering. We would like to express our thanks to Sawamura from the VAT Berkuts who has helped with the general organisation of the show and ran the livestream studio for us all weekend. We would also like to thank all of the teams who participated this weekend. Many teams have put in a huge amount of effort to bring unique content to our show and many started their season many months earlier than usual to fly at our show. Last but not least, we would like to thank all of the people who have supported us over the past 12 months - The server is going from strength to strength and we look forward to many more successful years like this one. There are big things to come in 2014 and we'll let you know as soon as we confirm the details! Thank you all! Rob & Pete. @Razorback - I think it's a pretty safe bet that we'll be celebrating our 2nd anniversary in a similar style - Thanks for watching!:) -

Well folks - it's finally here! We'll see you all at 14:00 -
Hi there, Steering the Mustang is really quite nice once you get used to her. From a hardware standpoint, it is much easier to taxi her if you have rudder pedals and Toe brakes. If I'm taxing at speed, I usually leave the tail wheel locked and just used the 6 degrees that you have available. If I need to slow and taxi around a Tight corner, I slow down, Push the stick forwards to unlock the tail wheel and move the rudder in the direction I want to turn, giving a short burst of power at the same time. If you don't get a response, you can also slight press the wheel brake (Left if you want to turn left, Right if you want to turn Right) to initiate the turn. I then use the opposite wheel to stop the aircraft from ground looping. She's really very comfortable when you know what to expect.

Indeed - what an awesome day that was! :) Princess Elizabeth is, without doubt, my favourite stang. I really can't wait for a high back 51 to fly in DCS :)
-
It's not quite as simple as that. We have the P-51D AFM on our Spitfire, but it's not just a simple copy and paste.
-
Indeed - he originally bought these to be a sort of fast transport, the learjet of it's day. However, most the F-51s that he bought we modified and went back in to miltary service with South American countries :)
-
Hi Guys, Perhaps I can shed some light on this situation. Over the past year, I've been lucky enough to get in 3 P-51s. When entering the cockpit of Princess Elizabeth at Duxford this year, Stevo (Her pilot), reminded us to stay clear of the gear handle. He stressed that the main gear would not retract whilst on the ground, but the tail would. Even though it was only the tail wheel, I don't think the owner would have been too happy if we'd moved that handle!
-
Haha, Thank you, Road Rash. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, I must have missed your post. I'm not a real pilot myself, but having spoken to several current Stang pilots, ED should be immensely proud of themselves. Rob.

Sorry for the double post, but I've just remembered something. North American Aviation never manufactured Mustangs with the jump seat. However, after the war, the Cavalier Aircraft Corporation took some already existing F-51D air frames and modified them significantly. They strengthened the wings, added the taller tail (As seen on the TF-51D) and, most importantly, added a rear seat behind the pilot for an observer - The so called 'Jump seat'. Fuel tanks were also mounted to the wing tips, although these were not present on all of them. I do believe that some Cavalier Mustangs did have the jump seat but didn't feature the 'Tall Tail' - I would need to confirm that though. These Cavalier aircraft we mostly used by foreign air forces, many south american countries using them well in to the 1960s. (I believe the Dominican Republic had Mustangs in service until the early 80's but would have to confirm that). Cavalier P-51: **EDIT** After a quick Google, here's a Cavalier Stang with the jump seat and the stand tail with no tip tanks fitted):
-
Hi Yo-Yo, The TF-51's all had dual controls originally. (The T, as I'm sure you know, standing for training). As Pete says above, There are lots of P-51s flying around today with the military radios removed and a 'jump seat' fitted, but these are modern modifications and still carry the designation of P-51 D/K. As far as I'm aware, there were no in service military aircraft with the jump seat. Or, if there was, they were almost certainly field modifications and wouldn't have carried a separate designation. All the TF-51's feature the extended canopy & dual controls - with some also having the extended tail. Rob

I don't think I've ever seen the server as busy as it has been this past weekend - It was fantastic to see it being used by so many pilots. Thanks for the support guys - we love seeing the server been used. :) -
