  1. Indeed, we at Virtual Aerobatics are very grateful to be part of such a fitting tribute to Jim from the community that he loved so much. Chris will be taking the lead on this one, using the Virtual Aerobatics server as the base. We would love for as many of you as possible to take part in this special event, dedicated to the memory of someone very special to us all. Rob.
  2. If there was going to be a map of Italy, it should be there anyway... ;)
  3. I think Luthier has made a good point here. Il-2 got so busy with so much going on after the mods came out that eventually, for sheer ease of use, it was separated to WWI, WWII, SCW, Vietnam etc... But nothing stopped you having your own custom install with whatever you wanted. The good thing about the way it worked in IL-2 was that it didn't require 2 completely separate installs - all the content shared by the different versions was only found once on your hard drive. This is a good move to get new players involved without forcing a lot of content upon them that they don't really care about. Top stuff, Luthier!
  4. It's up! Awesome stuff :)
  5. Very much looking forward to this project - I'm sure I will be at the front of the queue to buy the completed product :)
  6. It's great when you get a chance to be so close to these aircraft, there's just something about them. Recently, at Duxford, I managed to get myself and the VA staff into the cockpit of a P-51 C, something I'm sure we will never forget!
  7. Update from our Facebook page:
  8. From what Dan & Ed said, everything they tried matched the figures they use in the real aircraft. One small discrepancy that Dan picked up on was the sensitivity of the rudder but, other than that, no other faults were mentioned by them. There are a few differences between the Mustangs that The Horsemen use and the variant modelled in the sim. DCS represents a completely stock aircraft where as there are a few changes made to the restored mounts that The Horsemen use. To begin with, none of the real pilots that we had try the sim (other than Nick Grey) could get the aircraft started. This is because, in most modern P-51s, the rear fuselage fuel tank has been removed. The Fuel cutoff valve is then removed ("it's just something else to go wrong") and the rear fuselage tank position is used as the fuel cut off position on the fuel selector. Stevo (Steve Hinton Jnr) also noticed, when doing his pre take-off checks, that the oil pressure did not drop when he fluctuated the RPM. Over the last few months, we have had Steve Hinton, Dan Friedkin, Ed Shipley, Stevo (Steven Hinton Jnr), Nick Grey & Matt Nightingale try out DCS P-51 at our events at Duxford - All have been thoroughly impressed by the level of detail that has been achieved by the Eagle Dynamics team. It's hard to disagree with them ;) Dan was flying for a good 15 - 20 minutes and conducted his flight in exactly the same way as he would in the real aircraft
  9. Well, At Duxford's Flying Legends airshow this year, we finally got around to getting the real Horsemen to try out DCS P-51. To say they were impressed was an understatement! Ed Shipley & Dan Friedkin put the Mustang through it's paces, tried stalls, loops and compared the facts of figures of DCS to the real thing - "The accuracy is amazing". I just thought I'd share a few images of the team trying out DCS as I know a few will be interested.
  10. Cheers D, Best of luck for this weekend ;)
  11. Cheers guys, I will still be around the community, just no longer flying for a team :)
  12. Hey guys, Just wanted to inform you that I am stepping down from the Virtual Horsemen. I've had a blast over the last 5 years, but feel that it's time for a new challenge in my life. I'll still be around VA and will fly as and when I feel like it, but wont be committed to any team for the immediate future. Whilst we're here, I would like to extend my thanks to the real team, their staff and, most importantly, the pilots who have flown on my wing for the last 5 years for making our team what it is today. Julian will be taking over, effective immediately. All the best, Rob (PS. To all those who have applied to join the team - your applications will be forwarded to Julian and he will continue the recruiting process following his return in August.
  13. Thanks for the applications guys - you each should have received a PM
  14. Virtual Horsemen Looking for Pilot! The Virtual Horsemen are looking for a Right Wing Pilot! The Virtual Horsemen were formed in late 2008 by 3 friends - Rob Brindley, Francessco Brunetti & Julian Tirazona. Since then, we have become affiliated with the real team, became the first none Lock On team to perform at the Virtual Festival of Aerobatic Teams and have since gone on to transition to DCS P-51 Mustang. We currently fly 3 P-51s and aim to replicate the real Bremont Horsemen Flight Team's display as accurately as possible using DCS: P-51. Requirements: DCS:P-51 Mustang Headset / Teamspeak 3 Suitable HOTAS / Joystick Must be able to fly at European Evening times. Must have some formation flying experience. How to apply: Please send the following information to one of the following provided options: Callsign Location Time Zone Formation Experience Equipment (Joystick, Pedals, Track IR etc...) Contact Options: Email: Rock@virtual-horsemen.com Reply to the thread below PM Rock on this forum Potential is far more important than ability. We are more likely to choose somebody who we believe has the potential and will be a good fit for the team than somebody who flies perfectly but does not necessarily blend in.
  15. Would definitely support this - we have this feature on the Mustang and it would be great to have it on all the other aircraft too. There's nothing worse than seeing a jet team out there with pylons hanging underneath the wing!
  16. Hey guys, Myself and Pman will be away until Wednesday next week. We're heading down to Duxford for the May airshow where we hope to meet a few of our pilots who fly on the server. I will have my PC set up on Sunday for the Public to try out DCS. It is unlikely that myself or PMan will answer and PM's or emails over the next few days as we are unsure of the internet connect at Dux. If you're heading to Dux, stop by and see us to claim your free T-shirt! Shahdoh will still be around on the server and you can always leave a message on the forums in the hope that we might see it. See you next week! PMan & Rock
  17. ED have announced that DCS World will only support 64 bit soon. I thought that was to be implemented with 1.2.4, but maybe not ;)
  18. Are you running 32 or 64bit? DCS World only supports 64bit.
  19. In just over a weeks time (Sunday 26th May), Myself & Pman will be at Duxford's May airshow. If you see us around, come over, say hi and claim your free Virtual-Aerobatics.Com T-shirt!
  20. Pikey, what great feedback! Thank you for taking the time to go into so much detail - that really will help us. Whilst there are a lot of cool features listed there, air racing is not the primary focus of the server so, unfortunately, we will not be having 3 separate tracks on the same mission. We will try and renew the track on the server every few months to keep things fresh, but with the current track, there are already a lot of messages popping up on users screens with times etc that can be quite off putting when you're trying to fly formation. Shahdoh is currently designing a new track for the server which all aircraft will have to fly on. With regards to the start ups, the cold starts will remain as many people use the server to learn how to manage new aircraft and we would like to support that. There doesn't really seem much point in having a high fidelity aircraft if we're going to short cut thins later on.
  21. Thanks for the kind words guys Work on the re-cabling of the servers network and the installation of the SDSL line / router is progressing well. When the server returns, we will have a brand new map and race course for you all to enjoy!
  22. Hi guys, As the title says, the server will be down from tomorrow (Monday 13th May) and will be back up by the weekend. Whilst this may be an inconvenience for many people, we have become victims of our own success and so some updates are necessary for the server. Pman & Max have already spent a considerable amount of time and money updating the server machine, now we are needing to upgrade the connection itself (Again). We've provided some stats below to show the sheer volume of traffic using the server: As of Wednesday, over 540 unique pilots from 14 countries have used the server. Almost 25 GB of data is uploaded every single day. During week days, there are an average of 17 players on at all times. And SDSL line has been installed, but the entire network that the server uses now needs to be recabled. The new SDSL line costs £125 + VAT, per calender month. The server machine, built from scratch since we started this project, has cost over £650 to date. Over the last 2 months, we have had a 97% Up time. As you can see, running the server is not cheap. We've recently had a few people ask about contributing to the running costs of the server and so, a paypal account has been set up for those who wish to help. All donations received are greatly appreciated by all of the admin team here. Details here: http://www.virtual-aerobatics.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=214 Rock, Pman, MaxKhaos, Shadhoh

  24. Please try to keep this serious guys... I was trying to give the community a chance to have their questions answered by real P-51 pilots, but some people obviously feel the need to attempt to derail the thread.
  25. Perhaps I should take this opportunity to confirm the following: I will be taking my PC and other equipment. All 3 pilots will be trying out DCS for themselves. Leon, Merlin is correct. The pilots are current formation aerobatic pilots and, as such, have no combat experience in the P-51.
