But then it doesn’t matter. If you spent more on the components than you saved on your electric bill it’s not a savings. It’s like when I ask my wife how much she spent shopping and she replied “I saved $100” See that’s just a pittance. Such costs would be irrelevant to me building a PC

It would have to be a simple On or Off. Accommodating so many settings like Low Med and High isn’t practical. I don’t know if you recall the Model Enlargement feature but part of the problem with that was trying to have those three settings. Honestly even just the On or Off setting is too much to add in addition to dot labels which are essentially the same thing. There aren’t enough servers or players online in this game to allow people so many choices.

No you don’t have to. I think even ED recommends not messing with this. I don’t mess with it either and get great performance out of the 13 and 14 series CPUs I have used. If people simply like to play around with their machines that’s their choice but it’s not necessary. If you don’t earn back the difference then there’s no benefit. Pretty simple math (actually not simple, I’d like to see someone try the calculations ). And I can’t imagine any PC components truly constitute that great a portion of your electric bill. Not really a factor IMO

The problem is to many people the dots are just ugly. And you’d be forced to have them on or be at a disadvantage. I’m sure many people would not be happy with that dilemma. That also assumes the 100% size is reasonable but I think the majority observation is that they’re too big. Plus I doubt they can ever be made to appear at consistent sizes across all resolutions. The better thing to do would be to just combine the features of spotting dots and dot labels into the label option which is already a mission setting. Or Off. For the same reason dot labels are a mission setting.

We are far from the point where games are indistinguishable from reality. Unless that’s happened already and we’re in one now
-
Oh yeah there are game graphics approaching that now. But then throw in making everything destructible and make that a world the size of DCS with AI you can talk to and that all have advanced flight models and so on Not quite there yet…

Sure, in the fantastical long term no more improvement will be possible since graphics will be indistinguishable from reality. That’s very far away and not in the foreseeable future.

I’m curious how many actual women are on this thread

Yeah but with a strong enough system there’s no need to fiddle with settings. Just max everything and game on. And since games like this one are designed primarily around 2D it’s just not as much of a stretch. The thing is it’s a moving target, games only ever evolve to demand more and more. So there will never be a time when VR “catches up”. Simple math says it’s always going to be more demanding to run VR vs 2D.

That’s not the impression I get from seeing the constant posts about this stuff. The whole VR section looks like one big troubleshooting thread. It’s probably due to the fact that many VR players seem to be running the game at the very limit of their hardware and therefore feel every bump in the road. It’s important to recognize that the higher graphic settings in this game were really not intended for 3D. The trouble is that VR players can see those in the game and try running them only to be frustrated and not willing to simply turn them down. It’s possible to build a PC that can easily max out all the settings in DCS. I don’t think any amount of money can do that for VR

Most any custom build PC vendor will allow you to select these. That’s the trouble with using the term “pre-built”. That could mean anything from a PC off the shelf of an electronics store where you indeed can’t select this to a premium custom build where you can. Trying to build a PC yourself is not a good choice for many people and there are lots of very capable companies which can provide this service.

That’s a vast understatement Seriously guys, I did get the impression that the OP is totally new to this in which case dumping $5,000 worth of computer parts on the dining table and giving him a screwdriver may not be the best option.

Yeah there’s just not a good solution using dots. Although I think what would happen in the first instance there is when something gets smaller than a pixel you’d see a 50% shaded pixel, not nothing. Depending on whether AA is enabled which in that case you’d want.
-
It could be a mission setting like labels and such. So yes that’s certainly possible. And needed…
-
The trouble with the term “prebuilt” is that it could mean anything. Any machine you didn’t put together yourself technically a “prebuilt” so maybe it’s necessary to clarify that. And putting together your own PC is simply not a good option for many people. There are certainly good and bad prebuilt machines and companies who sell them. FWIW I’ll second that recommendation since it’s pretty much what I have. I do like the 5000 series case with the glass panels but if I had to do it again I’d tell them to skip the glass on the back side. You can’t see it anyways and it’s glass with a hole in it for fans and it can break during shipping

That’s really surprising. Are you running the same settings as before? If you want to make an actual report you’ll need to post a track of the mission, Dxdiag, system specs your settings and log file. Also remove any unofficial Mods if you’re using those.
