  1. Most any custom build PC vendor will allow you to select these. That’s the trouble with using the term “pre-built”. That could mean anything from a PC off the shelf of an electronics store where you indeed can’t select this to a premium custom build where you can. Trying to build a PC yourself is not a good choice for many people and there are lots of very capable companies which can provide this service.
  2. That’s a vast understatement Seriously guys, I did get the impression that the OP is totally new to this in which case dumping $5,000 worth of computer parts on the dining table and giving him a screwdriver may not be the best option.
  3. Yeah there’s just not a good solution using dots. Although I think what would happen in the first instance there is when something gets smaller than a pixel you’d see a 50% shaded pixel, not nothing. Depending on whether AA is enabled which in that case you’d want.
  4. It could be a mission setting like labels and such. So yes that’s certainly possible. And needed…
  5. The trouble with the term “prebuilt” is that it could mean anything. Any machine you didn’t put together yourself technically a “prebuilt” so maybe it’s necessary to clarify that. And putting together your own PC is simply not a good option for many people. There are certainly good and bad prebuilt machines and companies who sell them. FWIW I’ll second that recommendation since it’s pretty much what I have. I do like the 5000 series case with the glass panels but if I had to do it again I’d tell them to skip the glass on the back side. You can’t see it anyways and it’s glass with a hole in it for fans and it can break during shipping
  6. 2023 was just last year. Hardly old news
  7. It’s still been very much improved over the last 12 years. I would actually use those terms “murky and cloudy” to describe the old version. Before EDGE I think it was. Reshade can’t give you genuine HDR. That has to be in the game itself.
  8. That’s really surprising. Are you running the same settings as before? If you want to make an actual report you’ll need to post a track of the mission, Dxdiag, system specs your settings and log file. Also remove any unofficial Mods if you’re using those.
  9. Any decent gaming machine will run DCS just fine. I would stay away from consumer stuff like Dell or HP. Go with someone who specializes in gaming PCs. Some names that come to mind are Digital Storm, Maingear, Origin, Apex, Velocity Micro. You could tell them what sort of games you want to run but they’ve probably never heard of DCS. The key thing I looked for was 24/7 lifetime tech support. Without that your PC is a big paperweight and unless you only game during working hours you need the 24/7 part. And lifetime means it’s not going to expire. The thing that makes DCS and sims in general different than typical games is it needs a CPU with strong single threaded performance. In fact if there was a way to screw up a build for DCS it would be missing this important requirement. That’s the thing that even an experienced PC vendor might miss about building a machine for this game. It also needs at least 64GB of RAM This game also benefits greatly from being on a fast SSD. Any top gaming machine will have one of those. And you will need a big one, don’t go with anything under 2TB since this game is huge and will only get bigger. I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the requirements listed on the DCS store page, they seem weak and kinda out of date.
  10. Yeah I know the tests aren’t really testing anything unless you have failures enabled. I do them anyways since they’re all part of the flow.
  11. Absolutely it would help visibility. It would have anything to do with dots though. Aside from making them easier to see
  12. It’s odd that you would say this. By any measure the graphics have vastly improved since then. I would say the old game was murky compared to today. DCS does still suffers from rather dated graphics. It appears to lack a broad color palette and its shaders look unsophisticated. I’m not much of an expert in this regard but DCS seems quite out of date. I think one of the most important things this game could do that would aid in visibility issues would be to add HDR support. Better contrast and a greater range of color would do wonders here.
  13. Ok that makes sense. That’s a fun an maybe a little daunting prospect to do this all at once
  14. Yes, very important point. These limitations need to apply to the AI as well. Not sure how that would be accomplished.
  15. It seems to me that would be a resolution of 3840x2160 x 3. So 11540x2160. How do you get 11540x6480? (Oh I see your note above) In any case that’s a lot of pixels, enough to challenge even a 4090. I wouldn’t say “The game performs like crap” because you get low fps running 3x 4K displays. I get 100-120 FPS on a single 4K screen using a 4090. Divide that by three and 30 FPS sounds about right. But if you think there’s a bug or something you need to include your Dxdiag, a track and log file.
  16. That would actually be quite an excessive range. A top gaming PC would cost in the range of $5-6,000. I’m not sure how you could spend more unless that cost includes building a cockpit or something. I guess you could add a very expensive display for maybe $2k more. Again for 2D such a machine would run any game at its ultra settings in 4K at 100+ FPS. No machine can do that for VR no matter what you spend.
  17. Welcome to PC gaming! Today’s top machine is tomorrows doorstop. I’m not sure that’s an accurate assessment. My guess is 75% of the players in this game play on monitors. Indeed the game was never intended specifically for VR. That’s a highly subjective question. Not much has changed in this regard in only two years. It wouldn’t matter if 2 years or 20 years elapse, it will always be more demanding to run 3D compared to 2D For VR you would need to buy an extremely expensive PC and have to be satisfied with mediocre performance and constant tweaking. Such a machine would run the game flawlessly in 2D.
  18. I can’t really see a way of handling this realistically in a game because in reality you don’t black out because you turned your head, you’re simply unable to and that can’t be simulated. Plus it wouldn’t make sense for one aspect of pilot physiology to be so accurate and others not. Yes the game could add exhaustion effects and such but I don’t know if those are planned. And this still feels like one group of players trying to handicap another.
  19. Yes you can defeat an adversary on your six. What do you think the guys in that video are training at? Oh really? That’s cool. I can’t say I’ve seen that yet.
  20. Well there’s no wounded effect in DCS. Not saying there shouldn’t be, but it would be odd if you can take a bullet and be fine but turn your head the wrong way and blood splatters all over your screen But all VR headsets have a limited FOV compared to real life. That becomes an obstacle when trying to look at extreme angles. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a 2D player ask to handicap themselves like this. Truth is if everyone can check six equally then there’s no advantage gained or lost so why worry. Trying to implement something like this realistically seems quite problematic. Remember this would need to affect AI as well. Defensive BFM requires you to maintain visual on the bandit in order to employ any maneuvers effectively. Do a search on the topic.
  21. Whenever I see topics like this I detect the desire of VR players to nerf others because they’ve chosen to make the game so physically real on themselves. VR is a choice and if that handicaps you then that’s a choice as well. VR limits the player not only by requiring such physicality but also due to the restricted FOV and sweet spot of the headset itself. That aspect isn’t realistic either. Frankly in playing in game-land you need to be viewing like this constantly or you’ll just end up watching your plane explode.
  22. The dots you can see through fuselage must be the dot labels although I see accounts of the spotting dots appearing through clouds. The Spotting Dots have never had a true Off setting. When the improved version was introduced with 2.9, Off just switched them back to v2.8. Really though I found that in 4K the spotting dot 2.8 version was just invisible, so effectively “off” to me. The old spotting dots in game version 2.8 never had a command, they were always on by default for everyone. Yeah I honestly think DLAA looks better but MSAA reveals the dots more. Frankly I think they’re kinda unrealistic so if I was only playing SP I’d prefer DLAA
  23. Gameplay/ Improved Spotting Dots: On Really as far as I hear it there’s no way to turn them off. The command above has no effect. Apparently they’re always on. Possibly the inability to turn them off only affects VR. I’m away from DCS right now and can’t test it myself.
  24. See this is the problem. The exploit of making the game look like garbage in order to get an advantage still exists. I thought the whole idea of improved spotting dots was to get rid of this phenomenon. I think the only way to improve spotting dots is to eliminate them altogether.
  25. Yeah there’s never been a true Off option. Although the 2.8 version was basically invisible in 4K
