You can check that. However I discovered that in that mission, if UH-1 has external power , it starts up fine , per normal cold start procedure. Why on this mission, I cannot say. I think, but not sure, that DCS UH-1 cold start deviates from real world, turbine start up, is that throttle is not advanced to idle, until there is 10% engine RPM(from starter or ext power). Then throttle is opened and advanced to idle to spray fuel into turbine. The TOT should be between 100 and 150. Once startup is started, DO NOT stop the process , in RW, that could cause either starter generator or turbine to overtemp, and OT lamp to light. I tried this in DCS and it also works fine, but throttle has to be opened at 5%. Without throttle at idle, turbine RPM will not ago above 5%. Also in DCS , as in RW, the starter generator clonks out at 40 seconds. Without ext power , there is enough battery for two attempts.

I liked the Skull Island. THough the portrayal of US Army aviators left something to be desired. Those guys are thorough professionals! Not country yokels. "Is that a monkey?". I was slightly disappointed that CH-47 portrayed in Skull Island was not a Guns AGo-Go ACH-47 gunship. Though that program terminated in 1968, and film takes place in 1972 as US was winding down its involvement in Vietnam. This was second Kong film that made use of UH-1. The 1976 Dino DeLauerentis version had UH-1 C and H gunships firing 7.62 quad guns at Kong. UH-1 taking place of Curtiss Hawk biplanes of 1933 and 2005 adaptations. IMHO the best UH-1 popular media and most instructive for our sim needs is Robert Mason's "Chickenhawk". Very detailed. Mason was Army Warrant Officer aviator for Vietnam tour '65-66 and was later UH-1 IP at Ft. Rucker. he also wrote "Solo", which was made into a 1996 film about a bionic-cyborg soldier. To date best film adaptations of UH-1 in films are "Apocalypse Now", and "We Were Soldiers". Both deal with US Army 7th Cavalry Rgt. (Air Cavalry). There is also an IMAX documentary "Sky Soldiers", on NETFLIX. For AirCav in Vietnam and 1960's and 1970's AirCav operations in Central Europe and Korea, we need LOAH OH-6 Little Bird, CH-47 , ACH-47 Guns AGo-Go, and AH-1 Cobra modules.

A decent simulation of OLS fresnel lamp (aka meatball) landing system. Though even at 2650X1440 on 27" panel, the OLS part is too small to be visible during approach. Hopefully DCS carrier modules will have it.

Mission where UH-1H refuses to cold start. Mission is attached. Can't figure out on this mission, why UH-1H refuses cold start. Cold start , BTW, does work in other missions. PMC_ops.miz

Quite right. Still the cold start at start in 1.5.7 is broken, at least for me. The turbine does not turn. In 2.1.1 cold start works just fine. In 1.5.7 if the mission is started hot with turbine turning, then shut down, allowed to cool, the cold start procedure works. But not at start of mission. I thought maybe I was mishandling throttle Stop switch, but that is not it.
-
In 1.5.7 cold start procedure appears to be broken. Same cold start procedure works fine in 2.1.1. I think there is a bug with fuel flow or fuel gage, as fuel gage shows zero fuel during start-up.

With all due respect to skill and professionalism of RuN Naval aviators, there is one job that is scarier then being a RuN Kuz based aviator. That is being the IP on Kuz. air wing tasked with training and qualifying new SU-33, Mig-29K, or SU-25UKB aviators. Dear G*d, some of those SU-25UKB traps looked terrifying. That and the ship and landing area is so much smaller then US Nimitz class. Even in DCS it looks tiny.

Thank you. Buuuuutttt! Prior to release, I enable tactical drop. Tactical Drop safety cover up, tactical drop switch up. Armament selector to B, mode is ground, ASP in bombing mode. BL755 release at around 1000 meters with piper as instructed intersecting with bottom radials of net sight. Weapons release, but do not detonate. Same with AI wingman. So even though Mig-21bis (in DCS) carries BL755(A NATO CBU bomb), does it actually arm the weapon at release.
-
Interesting that DCS 1.5.6 Mig-21bis arming allows carriage of BL755 CBU's. Now how to do it accurately?

F-16C for DCS It has been simulated quite a bit Falcon series ending with Falcon 4: Allied Force, Falcon BMS, Digital Integration F-16. The aircraft is still in frontline use with USAF, ANG, allies, and clients. However flight model and FBW Laws is till classified, but is generally well understood , without unofficially being acknowledged. I am not certain LM would assist, as F-16C (various blocks) is exceptionally well simulated in PREPARE3D (which is explicitly not available for entertainment and home market). Doubtfull they would grant licence to ED. But I would love to have F-16C/D Block 50/52++, UAE Block60, and ultimately F-16V Viper Block70. F-16 is most deployed type in NATO , MidEast Allied , and Far East air forces, and much of USAF , and NATO battle plans revolve around this type.

I would prefer A-4, F-8, F-4, A-7, Tornado GR4, Etendard, Jaguar, or OV-10D, to S-3.

MSAA and AA is OFF. Cockpit GI is OFF, shadows are Flat Only. Deferred shading is a NoGo! It is supremely slow, brings Mig21 down to 5fps, when ON. Also with Deferred Shading ON the cockpit, aircraft, and whole seen look terrible and garish, with washed out textures. Regardless of Gamma. Maybe its just how Mig21 interacts with NTTR. But A-10C runs great, as does KA-50. FC3 is fine for the most part. SU-25T has decent FPS, but main gear tires blow on every landing, even with 1 m/s VV. Like I said, Mig21 module has been getting progressively slower in 2.1.X . Since NTTR is the only theater available for DCS 2.1.X, I can't test with Caucasus. In 1.5.6 Mig runs quite nicely.
-
Sadly in 2.1 and 2.1.1 it performance has gone down to unusable FPS. Very sad, on an otherwise great module. I dont know if it is still being developed.
-
Ever since 2.0.5 Mig-21 has been getting worse. With 2.1.1 it is no longer flyable. A-10C plays nicely with FPS above 30 most of the time. With Mig21, FPS is now in single digits. Even by itself in Freeflight. What has happened, or is happening? In 1.5.6 it plays quite nicely. Also in 2.1 and 2.1.1 the shading has really took a nosedive. HDR is off and Deffered Shading is OFF, Cockpit GI is OFF. The instruments look bad, and with sun are unreadable as turn pure white.

I served in US Army, but I did pick up a few things about surface warfare and ASW from my Navy colleagues. ASW is tedious and boring. They use Theory of Proximal Search to ascertain possible submerged targets. Sonoboyous are dropped at appropriate locations to either drive the prey, with active pings, or dropped in passive mode only. Either case it takes a long time, and requires patience. I am not certain it makes a good candidate for home enthusiast market. S-3 was updated to carry Harpoons and GBU-31/38, CBU, and MK series of bombs. As was its larger cousin P-3. With exception of torpedoes, AG ordinance was carried on wing pylons. It would be used against smaller surface combatants and improvised combat watercraft. Gunboats, boghammers, smuggling powerboats. S-3 performance was similar to A-10, as both share engine and are of somewhat similar weight, with S-3 having lower drag.

First , hats off to crew to 'Don't give up the ship'. Second, account for every crewman. Third, someone is in big trouble. This is seamanship. Sad, unless there was an outside factor effecting GPS, inertial, and radar of both ships, this kind of thing does not happen. I am afraid that careers of CO, XO, OOD, JOOD, navigator (of the watch), and lookouts are likely finished. The merchant master, 1st officer, and navigator are likely to loose their licences and certs. Bad all around. However, and I have a bad feeling, that there may have been some tinkering with GPS by 3rd agency. Obviously I have no evidence, and GPS has backups with inertial, radar, and with clear sky , navigating by stars. Merchant was fully loaded container ship, and from photos it looks like containers block bridge's view. But modern merchants also use combined GPS, and radar. The area is a heavy merchant traffic zone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtJ_Llli2uo Time 1:50 Bird Of Prey vs. RC air craft. AWESOME! It looks just like a real world dogfight between F-16 and MIG-29. The bird's turnrate is killah! The wingovers it does are perfect. Like its pivoting around the wingtip. RC seems to have advantage in a dive. I hope that LM Skunkworks and Boeing Phantomworks are working on next gen fighter/drone that mimics biological avian flight. Talk about true WVR super maneuverability! The bird does not need vertical stabilizer. Every external part of the bird contributes to pitch, roll, and yaw. Including offbore flight.

So I have this weird issue with my X-56 in both 1.5.6 and 2.X versions of DCS. When I was defining controls and assigning shortcuts to stick and throttle, the Stick column apeared on Left side of throttle. Everything was OK. However, for reasons unknown, after Restart (of windows) and/or shutdown-turn ON, order in which Stick and Throttle appear in DCS Controls flips with THrottle to the left of Stick. THis wrecks assignments, and I find myself having to redo all of them. Only to have them flip back to Stick left of Throttle , and forcing me to redo assignments again. I attempted to save a profile for each case, however loading the profile does not change the assignments. Weird issue, that I have no clue as to approach. I have tried unplugging replugging the devices in order, then in reverse order. Swapping USB ports/ But nothing works. DCS would report Throttle to left of Stick, and later on after a restart or hard ON/OFF , have them swap places again. Does anyone have a clue as to what this is?

Air Force Aircraft Arresting System (AAS)

Nothing wrong with that. However how many of those little tents are two man shelterHalfs? How many Marines practice night infiltration techniques, creeping from tent to tent? hhehe. -
Jane's AH-64D and F-15E were awesome sims.

Translucent kneeboard , pilot, and control columns would be nice with hotkey adjustable opacity. Thank you

Right now managing multiple displays, especcically when of different sizes and rez. is amessy, and ineffective. A comprehensive display management layout is needed.

Don't know for sure. However it may be a modification to allow longer service life, and less costly maintenance on hydraulic system. By staggering retraction, less hydraulic fluid pressure is needed. Hence less overall hydraulic fluid is needed for all hydraulic systems, and smaller/lighter pumps. I could be wrong, and it may be something else. Perhaps DCS F-5E retraction program is incorrect. At worst it is a minor thing.
