1. Without much thinking, you would need CD and the frontal area of the bombs. You can assume and confirm the values with tacview and the txt files that go into it...
2. the tunguska i can confirm below 15000ft and 4.2NM distance (just tested) My charts use a eliptical shape, but especially the area of <10Nm distance, the real shape of the "danger area" does not really count. Since you newer now the exact distance from RWR alone, you can just guess and avoid....
3. i copied the values from here and added Wikipedia data to it. I am sure some of that is modeled differently in DCS-world. So what where to get the "right" data?
4. Hi, i was always wondering how to remember the ranges of the air defenses DCS uses. I have started creating a diagramm for this. Can anyone please confirm the data i have used? It is based on several sources, but everything is a little fuzzy, so i tried to get good average values. right now everything is in km, i guess for heights i will change to feet and for distance change for miles??
System Name RWR Guidance Range [km] Max. height [km] SA-08 Osa Osa 8 Radar 7 12 SA-15 Tor Tor 15 Radar 12 6 SA-19 Tunguska Tunguska S6 Radar 8 3,5 ZSU-23-4 Shilka Shilka A Radar 2,5 1,5 SA-6 KUB Kub 6 Radar 16 14 SA-11 BUK BUK SD or 11 Radar 32 25 S-300PS Big-Bird Big-Bird BB Radar 47 30 SA-13 Strela-10 Strela-10 IR 5 3,5 SA-9 Strela-1 Strela-1 IR 4,2 3,5 SA-18 Igla Igla IR 3 3 ZU-23 optical 2,5 2
I plan to add the basic distances and angles of the A-10 weapon to it --> gun, maverick, rockets. also service ceiling ..... What do you think? Worth doing it or is there alleady a better chart?
5. Assumption: indicated airspeed of the AC is 100m/s. Heading is north. Wind is constant at 10m/s from west to east. --> direction 90degree Compared to the ground, in 1s the plane will fly "forward" 100m. At the same time, the plane will drift 10m to the east. So now think of one air molecule as it sits next to the aircraft. It will also move 10m to the east in 1s. The same will happen to all air moluceles around the area. So why do you think any air-molecule is moving in east-west direction RELATIVE to the aircraft???? There is no relative movement, means no side force on any part of the plane. If you have the canopy open or not, it does not matter, since there is no relative side-wind. The aircraft does not "see" the crosswind. Does this help you??
6. What you mean is maybe described as a gust! A short term change in wind direction or speed. Gusts are usually not respected in aerodynamical discussions, except it is a special topic. Usually you assume a quasi-static wind. You also usually assume is un accelerated horizontal flight, unless the discussion is about manoeuvering. So MHE, I also agree your statement seems to be wrong. If you put a ship without motor or sails in a river. What's the direction of the hull in relation to the stream??
7. With an FFB stick hardly do any trimming in the A-10. It is simply not necessary when using the autopilot. For tanker-refuelling I use the trimmer.
8. i guess you will see the phugoid of the A-10 in this case.
9. i guess you are below the min. altutude of that weapon.
10. If you shut down you will also loose one of the hydraulic systems together with one side of the elevator-rudder control. added to that, you will have much more drag that you have to compensate. With less ruder, there is even more drag. I just did some flight testing: -"standard" loadout of the a-10 loitering. -5000ft -147kts IAS 2engines --> 2x1200 pph --> 2400pph 1engline idle --> 300+2200 pph -->2500pph So the added drag in this simulation is good for 100pph of fuel. Point is that it doesn´t make any sence. Trimming the AC to forward flight is a PIA when adjusting the throttle. Maybe i will add some trials when loiting in an orbit. So idle down the inner engine. That can reduce some trimming, but i don´t think it will be better than running both engines.... I did also some short studies around. I find no indication of doing this, so i removed the "single-engine" text from wikipedia. Correct me if i am wrong...
11. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=86109 That's my hotas system. I also needed some some pads do be used double with a modifier. That's not very elegant, but proofed to be working well.
12. Did you repair anything?? There is a bug that does not repair all systems. this can result in weird navigation systems...
13. It's the same with the A10. The flying part is nearly too easy. It's all designed to be a weapon delivery platform. Flying a "old" aircraft is usually more fun, since it's more complex to master. I would assume starting/landing a me-109 would be considered pretty hard for the average A-10 pilot. The same as huey an the shark! Let's wait for the summer sale....
14. just go high and avoid them! you can install tacview and see your mistakes.. :)
15. What happens ig you press the jettison button very short? I had the feeling yiu have hold it pressed until all weapons are gone. Maybe that way you can. Dump just a few....
16. You can install TacView. There you can create recordings of all positions of all units. You can also jump back and forward as you like. For me thats even better than any replay function, since you get so much more information....
17. according to wikipedia the sa-18 does maximum 3500m/12000ft. so if you higher than 12000 you should be ok regarding SA-18. That brings you 8000ft less distance to search for. I recently installed tacview and analaysed some of my missions. I played "serious" mission and "dumb" missions, just to find out how the ground units engage me. It is veryvery intresting to see the results. Right now i am shocked how good the sa-18 really is, but it´s range is limited. Know your enemy....
18. hi, i don´t think the CPU is the problem. It has 4x3.2Ghz, but i can overclock it if it´s necessary. I just did a check run an monitoring the CPU load. It never gets over 40%, most of the time running at 30something %. Budget? If it´s <200€ (260USD) then it is fine. If there is a performance jump spending 320€, i might consider this also... I just found that reducing the instrument resoltion at the options (512) brings about 10FPS..... anyhow, i want´to change something... I only have performance issues with DCS, everything else doesn´t matter or is running nicely... Thanks for all your comments, i will do some checkes on the cards recomendet by hypersonik this evening....
19. Hi, my current pc does not show the performance with DCS world AS i would habe expected. (Running A-10 and BS) CPU i7 960 8GB Ram Sabertooth x58 main board Nvidia GTX 460 gratific card Often it goes down to 20 or even 15 fps, especially with many units bomb explosions and so on. I assume the CPU is not limiting, so I am focused on the traffic card here... Does anybbody have an idea of witch grafic card to buy to improve?? This card was only 140€ when I bought it about 1.5years ago... Thanks
20. I use 4 mavs first, and save 2 for "just in case". Then i use bombs. The gun is reserved vor small targets and for that what is happening after all other stuff is fired. Bit imagine, thats (in my case) at least 6 mavs, 6 laser bombs and ammo for some smaller targets!!! Thats quite a lot to do.... For the laser bombs i use CCRP. I only use CCIP when there are many targets close together. I still have problems with a good dive on single targets that i have as SPI. So i use CCRP with limited success. I asssume a dive attack with CCIP is more precise than level bombing wir CCRP.
21. Hi, the AR was ok given the problems you had.. I think this video also is a good example of how NOT to fly combat.. -don't attack from this altitude with a chopper!! (there is nothing to hide up there) -break after the first couple of rounds fired -break after the first damage, to asses the actual damage -don't be stationarry during your attack (you did a complete 360° turn for nothing and killed all your speed. you were a lame duck after that) you did not "walk away" after the fire! you are captured due to the close distance of your landing site to the enemy. You had a millions of chances to "walk away" after the first hit's on the helicopter, but all were canceled by your manoevering... I know it was a joystick test, so don't take my comments personally... :joystick: I just wanted have this video commented for anybody to learn...
22. if you always keep your plane on the south side of the river, there should be be no problem with the BUK. So destroy bunker 1 and turn south. prepare for bunker 2, goto north and destroy bunker 2, then imediately turn south again. In theory it is 6 bunkers waiting for 6 mavericks.... or you just turn south and rearm the plane. TAKE YOUR TIME PLAN WHAT YOU ARE DOING DO IT --> EGRESS SOUTH
23. If you had your plane repaired earlier in the mission, then maybe your navigation is broken. Seems to be a bug in the simulation.
24. Or you just select that wappoint an check the distance. Then you bring TGP to that point. Now you move tgp down and check the distance. Once you have the same distance TGP and HUD, you have the correct position. It's not that precise, but pretty fast....
