RAAF vs F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter
wilky510 replied to AussieM8's topic in Military and Aviation
Uh oh. -
+1 rep, well said.

I remember reading a well thought article about how the USAF plans to use their F-15 Golden eagles (AESA upgrade) to bait aircraft and have the F-22's ambush the aircraft that are busy with the F-15's. That way the F-22 enters the WVR on their terms, or gets an instant pitbull with an AMRAAM shot with high energy, which would pretty much doom a fighter.

Are you saying that an IR missile at 50km will have twice the PK as a radar missile? Or you just strictly speaking up close..? You need to let go of the PK of past missiles, i'm not saying their PK is 100%, but we're 14 years from Kosovo conflict, and 20+ years from the Gulf war conflict now. That's alot of time for stuff to evolve and improve in the military world. The American aircraft also are allowed to fire outside the actual range of their missiles; so we don't even know the exact circumstances of the AIM-120's that were fired in the Kosovo Conflict. Look, i agree the MICA IR is above and beyond the AIM-9X but it isn't a wonder weapon, just like the F-22 or the AIM-120. I can also see from your comments in this thread you're a bit bitter about at the F-22 (god knows what reason, i guess because it's simply made in the USA) because you're so keen on making it sound like a piece of junk. Do remember here, that while you're so focused on the F-22, that you're our ally, and so is France.. why such the competition to make the F-22 look bad? It's not like it's taking sales away from European aircraft.. I could see you attacking the F-35.. but the F-22.. jeez, do you really want to go against these.. or do you want them to be on your side?
-
Setup engagements are suppose to be taken with a grain of salt when it comes to which aircraft is 'better'. It's all about tactics used in the real world and i'm kinda glad the F-22 pilot lost, i hope he learned his lesson and can change and fix it for the real thing. Quick question, does anyone know if the Rafale was running with full A-A loadout, including fuel tanks?

A suggestion to ED DCS World FC versions
wilky510 replied to 71st_Mastiff's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I don't agree with one word you said here. You and many others think that ED is working 'against' you in some fantasy, conspiracy theory world... and honestly it's not like that. Just be glad you haven't seen a Falcon BMS AMRAAM in ED games. Then I would assume you would have something real to complain about. -
Lies (about naval combat) DCS World told me
wilky510 replied to maturin's topic in Military and Aviation
Yes. I would say so. Just like others here said it was down to doctrine. And i'm not really sure what that doctrine is exactly for both sides so i can't really comment. I would assume the US Navy would send hornets loaded with harpoons and do a mass launch to overload defenses. but again, i can't comment. I'm not sure exactly what doctrine they planned to use. It is time for a replacement for the Harpoon. I personally think we should see one here in the near future. edit: I would also assume the Russian missiles have higher warhead size, more speed and more variety of missiles was simply of the fact they had to counter much larger and heavily defended warships mostly being the aircraft carriers that the US always had. It's just that these missiles can be applied to any warship though and that makes them just that more deadly. -

RIM-162 ESSM is suppose to counter the threat of Supersonic maneuvering anti ship missiles for the US Navy, but they came out right after the original Lock on was released. So they're obviously not in the game. -
Myth. PAK-Fa can still run into these problems. and i read this the whole time while the USSR anthem was playing. It suited it well. Beg to differ, the F-22 is a very capable, amazing fighter. It's only had one minor flaw. That's apparently been solved.
-
Fighting an uphill battle. Wouldn't even bother. Too many anti-F-35 people here. They'll fanboy all over the PAK-Fa no problem though.
-
Go troll somewhere else.

I agree, SAM smoke needs to stay around more than what it does ingame now. Another example if anyone is curious to see:
-
If this is true, i hope it's fixed.
-
I must say even though I'm not a very big fan of Russian aircraft, the PAK-Fa does look nice. Both the Su-30MKI and PAK-Fa are the better looking aircraft out there.

Missile Dynamics - A discussion
wilky510 replied to Teknetinium's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
R-27ER seemingly has way more range than the AIM-120C in 1.2.3 now, that what it seems like to me anyways. 120C seems like dog poop now in my opinion, I hope Tek is happy. -
Oh yes, because an IR missile fired at medium range will apparently have more PK, especially when the target can easily react with flares. IRST isn't a god weapon, just like the F-22 isn't a god weapon.
-
Did i hear that right, FW-190D9? Nice! I'm excited for the MiG-15 and F-86 too.
-
I sure do. That's how they had it set up in the past wars. F-15C's had air to air roles, and the F-16's did most bombing missions in the gulf war. So it's obvious to see the USAF wanted the F-22 fill F-15C's role, and the same for F-16 with the F-35. They were just planning on getting 750 raptors for the air superiority role. Even with the raised costs, and concerns, they were planning on 380ish, which would've of been enough. I think everyone was shocked at the 187 number. The F-35 shouldn't still be needed for purely air superiority role. We have the Golden eagles to help out the Raptors. F-16 started out a lightweight dogfighter. What made it a great multirole fighter was how easy it was to clear new weapons with it. UK did a goodjob of setting up their airforce, they got the Tiffy for air superiority and F-35's for strike roles(if they get it). If an Airforce can't afford both aircraft, the F-35 will be fine. I'm not saying the F-35 is useless in the air to air role, read the last part of my last post. You just can't compare a typhoons performance to the F-35. They are built for different roles.
-
Most of the aircraft it will struggle heavily against, we're built as dedicated AIR SUPERIORITY fighters, ie Typhoon and Su-35. So if these aircraft aren't better than a dedicated built from the ground up strike fighter, their designers failed horribly (which they didn't.) Keep in mind, this aircraft was built from the ground up as a strike fighter, just like the Su-34. Look how 'beefy' that thing is compared to the Su-27. Do you expect the Su-34 to win in WRT fights against the Tiffy and F-22 too? At the end of the day, too many people are comparing to the F-16, which it will be replacing so it has that right to. But the F-16 was built as a dogfighter, and then later turned into a bombtruck that carried out most of the strike missions for the USAF. It's apples and oranges. You can't compare the two. They were built with different mind sets and a different era. USAF effectively saw how strong a stealthy strike aircraft is and will be on the battlefield. You know, i hope people at this rate keep underestimating the F-35, so when the fight actually comes, they'll be in a surprise because it won't be as bad as people put it out to be. The aircraft has the best sensor fusion to date over any aircraft, and pilots will tell you just as they like to able to turn hard, they like centralized, easily readable battlefield information just as much.
-
I like how you defend the Russians by saying they aren't stupid, and then go on to babble how 'stupid' the Americans were with the JSF.
-
That wasn't even funny. Do you think a PAK-Fa is gonna be as cheap as they say it will? 'supposed' unit costs put it below the Su-35.... i'd like to see how they pull that off.
-
two of those problems can easily be fixed by uprated engines, which will happen in the near future. Work has already begun on getting way more thrust out of the engines. Now, you could argue is "why is the current engines not good enough?" I can tell you right now with all 5th generation aircraft it seems weight has been the biggest problems, the final F-22 came overweight by a big margin and they apparently had to compensate alot in areas to keep the weight down. This is something the Russians haven't really gotten to yet with the PAK-Fa. Just remember, all the sensors, pods, ECM.. etc are built in the aircraft, the added weight from electrical systems like to open the weapons bay adds weight.. you can see how this stuff adds up and makes the aircraft 'heavier'. They can try and cut weight, but it proved hard with the F-22, the best solution at the moment is to go for uprated engines. Edit: Out of curiosity, what aircraft would you like Australia to get?
-
I've been wanting new vapor effects for a while now, i even put it in the DCS wishlist thread. Kinda hoping that the next DCS fast mover has the effects in it. I suppose it will, but we'll just have to wait and see if it does or not.
-
I read somewhere that the YF-22 pretty much came in guns blazing with showing off their workable weapons bays, while the YF-23 was questionable at best. I also heard that the YF-23 didn't even have it's AIM-9/short range bays worked out yet. I could be wrong though.
-
Even with the Golden eagles counted in, they are still way less than what they had. I agree, the F-35 will be a great air to air fighter, and it's lack per say in the TWR department can be improved in the near future with uprated engines. edit: GG, have you heard about the golden Falcons too? I remember reading an article a while ago about 300 odd f-16's getting upgrades (AESA's mainly) because of the apparent slight delay on F-35 IOC.
