Russian missiles - usage, bug, problems, advantages
wilky510 replied to tovivan's topic in Su-27 for DCS World
Why are you being so sarcastic against someone that simply has a different opinion than you have? I mean, it's clear you guys have no respect for American aircraft, and think the AIM-120 is worthless based on "real life data" (I'm a long time lurker, i've seen the 51st bring up the real life AMRAAM PK data numerous times in many threads) but i feel he's right. Could you imagine if we got the AIM-9X with off boresight capability? I think what makes people mad about the Ru missile discussions that constantly happen on these forums is because you guys have WVR, and we have BVR. But everytime one of these threads come along, one side usually one wants the best of both worlds (BVR and WVR). Sure WVR is harder to get into with actives being thrown down your throat, but i thought that makes you guys/gals stronger? being at a disadvantage, sneaking up on Eagles, using superb teamwork and other fun tactics (which i'm sure the 51st is easily capable of, being one of the best squadrons out there). -
Most of those aircraft that got the DIRCM are transports in the USAF ie: C-17, C-130H/J, AC-130, and many more. USAF felt they were the most vulnerable to MANPADs coming in and out of hotzones with supplies. edit: most of the US Army AH-64's have a smaller DIRCM added too now (not talking about the disc-ball, uses lasers i believe).

All aircraft have strengths and weaknesses in WVR. You can also expect them to both try and exploit them. F-18 pilots may not be the best turners, but they make full use of their high AoA and instantaneous turnrates. I agree with you on the F-22, though, i feel like the F-23 should be used as the replacement for the F-15E's. Isn't the F-35 supposed to get a laser missile protection system in a later block? 2022-2023ish~?

Sounds exactly what the F-35 is supposed to do. Alot of modern fighters have nearly, or very very close to that same amount of ammunition, Gonna attack them too? Here we go again... It does have the gun though, they aren't making the "same" mistake. Just because it doesn't have the ammunition to your liking, it isn't good enough? The F-16 is no slouch for any plane in WVR after 1978 too, so what exactly is your point? Glad you have insight on exactly how two prototypes will perform against eachother based on reading news articles. Su-27 weighs way more than the F-15 and carries only 150 rounds. Your point?

Best upgrade for performance.
wilky510 replied to BritTorrent's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Also, to the OP: I heard the AMD cards don't fair too well with the current version of DCS (DX9) as quite a few people have pointed out on these forums, i'd wait for DCS 1.5/2.0 at this point of time. Then i'd see if you would need an upgrade or not depending on how your performance is in the new engine. If the FPS is bothering you that much, you could go for a Nvidia card. Seen people saying it nearly doubled their FPS with DCS, not because Nvidia is "better", Just AMD cards aren't very optimized for the current DCS engine. -

wilky510 replied to BritTorrent's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Most likely. the performance might not increase your top end fps, but the low fps dips you get at airbases and other parts of the map should be gone: Why and how? Right now in the current DX9 the CPU is doing all the work, and as it is right now and the future DCS doesn't use all 4 cores. So what makes DCS 1.5/2.0 different is they're moving all the goodies over to the GPU, which was bottlenecked on the CPU. You will get more average FPS atleast with the newer version of DCS. -
Next DCS (Russian) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
wilky510 replied to Milene's topic in DCS Core Wish List
Uh? answer for the F-15? Do you mean answer for the AMRAAMs? So the Russians get an upgraded R-73, R-77 on the Su-27 (which they have no proof of being in any decent numbers for the VVS), and an R-27EP which has been said to be only used for AWACs, while the F-15 is stuck with an AIM-9M (AIM-9X has been in service for 10 years and has been produced for the USAF in huge amounts of numbers) and versions of the AMRAAM that didn't receive any ranged upgrades (ie C-5 and up, GGtharos has said our AMRAAM C is mostly like a C-4 or below). Don't honestly see how that will make things even up, but ok. -
Military and Aviation News Thread (NO DISCUSSION)
wilky510 replied to topol-m's topic in Military and Aviation
What comes around goes around. Didn't Typhoon (albeit they were Germans) pilots brag against 'beating' the F-22's in exercises? All joking aside, I wouldn't take any outrageous claim too seriously, especially one with the size of 12-0. Seems too good to be true, in my opinion. -
Quantity has a Quality all it's own.
-
Ok, you can have those aircraft, but we get an AESA F-15, with AIM-9X capability and AIM-120D's. Let's throw in the F-22, why not. You're actually claiming this game is biased against Russian aircraft and missiles?... Really man?

But somehow the constant bombardment of whiny anti F-35 posts/articles somehow adds to the discussion. What a world we live into today...

Wasn't the offensive jamming not present that night either? Stealth is just a part of the pie, meant to be mixed into a bigger system. Offensive Jamming was always suppose to be part of the stealth package. Alot of parts fell into place for the F-117 shootdown.

advice for buying second video card
wilky510 replied to wolle's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
SLI is actually really useful and quite fun. Just gotta makes sure you understand not all games support it and sometimes games are just poorly optimized for it, if you're getting it for DCS world 2.0, you'll be set, they are heavily invested into making it SLI/CFX capable. I bought 2 570's back in the day and was super happy about the buy, just switching from SLI on and off i saw a huge difference (atm using a 980 TI SC). The only thing you need for SLI is to make sure you're on the same core clock of both cards. A superclocked factory card won't work with a non superclocked card for SLI. PLENTY of space. You're fine. -

I think it's been said time and time again it's much harder to attain Russian data on aircraft, without them breaching walls and most likely ending up in jail. It's just this simple fact, it's not about West aircraft selling better or not (they may or not, i'm not sure), and i'm sure if people could develop Russian aircraft i'm sure they would. Did you hear Wags earlier in his stream? He said they've got a F-18 pilot/F-15 pilot helping them out with stuff. That's a big plus for the aircraft they're making. -
Bit curious myself, i think an F-35 with 50% or less remaining fuel would be quite deadly. It would be comparable T/W with a F-16 block 40. This Report just seems "off". I'm not saying the F-35 can be worse than the F-16, just feel like we're not getting the whole story.

As some have said, APA was a good source until his agenda took over his reasoning and now the site isn't a good source of information for the F-35 alone. APA wanted Australia to get the F-22, and was pushing so hard for this, they kinda went a bit too far with attacking the F-35. BTW, most of his information is outdated, as an example: he rates the APG-81 as 1200 modules, when it's actually 1600~ modules. That's a huge difference of T/R modules and nothing to sneeze at.
-
it'll sell though. This kind of "information" is gold right now with all the F-35 hate.
-
I see Russian bias on these forums all the time, including on these very forums from time to time. So exactly what are you trying to prove? Someone finally links an article talking nicely about Western aircraft and everyone is suddenly up in arms? I mean god sakes, there's even a Russian Airforce aircraft photo only stickied here, but none for the USAF. Now i see why. Just like the Russians did with stealth aircraft? We've heard for years how useless stealth is, easily countered by S400, not worth the development time or the "high" maintenance costs of these aircraft. Now Suddenly the PAK-Fa is released and Russian sources states it already has a lower RCS than the F-35?... Ok.

Most likely just testing out the new AI model, wasn't there some pictures shown somewhere of it recently?
-
That was on an F-16. Not the F-22. The F-22 will most likely will be always high and going fast. Especially during AMRAAM shots, TV helps turn at higher speeds when they're pushing for a long range/medium range shot and then go defensive. Yes, it does have it's benefits at slow speed, but you're playing with fire down there. F-22's have learned the hard way and have even been mocked for using TV too much at low speed by fellow F-16/15/18 pilot's. When i said it wasn't worth the extra weight/complexity, i said current aircraft IE F-16, F-15, F-18; they felt they were fine without it. The F-22 was built from the ground-up to have it, which is a huge difference. I've never saw any western official say it was a useless gimmick. Maybe Western fanboys. But i've seen Flanker fans back in the day claim stealth was a useless/wasted concept. Doesn't mean it's true. Bingo.
