AMD was held down by Raja. Now he's with Intel and they're almost stagnant.

RAM 2x16GB vs 8x8GB.. any suggestions?
Tailhook replied to sirrah's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
More sticks mean more stress on the CPU memory controller. Best to go bigger size per stick so 2x16gb. -
Test: Setting CPU Affinity

Wouldn't worry about it unless you are trying to do something stressful like streaming. I primarily use core selection to keep DCS off CPU0 and 1. -

It really just depends on the chip. Selecting cores is mainly for people who want to load balance for other processes while still maintaining an enjoyable game framerate. -

ROFL!:megalol: Yes, DCS doesn't technically "use" more than 2 cores. But it still performs better when given more than 2 cores (and threads) within Windows. And from my own experimenting, it prefers hyper-threading ON for a 10% boost. -

Stop promoting Project Lasso. You can set cores during DCS launch. autoexec.cfg -
Why not integrate SRS instead of your in-house VOIP?

So you agree with me.:smartass: -
Why not integrate SRS instead of your in-house VOIP?
Tailhook replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in Chit-Chat
Disagree? I spent 2 hours on Blue on Growling sidewinder last night with radio tuned to 225.000 AM (Blue Common). About 20 players on Blue side. I tried twice to see if anyone was on frequency. Not even crickets could be heard. Nobody uses it. -

Tailhook replied to GunSlingerAUS's topic in Chit-Chat
Getting so tired of people asking this question. Nobody uses SRS. Literally nobody. The only places you can find people using SRS is on Hoggit, Blue Flag, or private squadron servers. Even then, on public servers squadrons use their own frequency instead of COMMON or just use Discord/Teamspeak. They legally can't "just integrate SRS". Working with other peoples code is a PITA. Get over the fact ED is making their own native VoIP system. When it is fully functional you will say to yourself "I understand now. I'm glad they did it". -
Among other shady things by Apple, I was referring to the Iphone performance decline on newer OS's and their "because battery degradation" excuse.

The ONLY reason someone should stay on W7 or W8 is because of deprecated hardware drivers (laptops) that W10 has already or will break compatibility. Other than that, until someone files a class action lawsuit against Microsoft's forced automatic updates (similar to Apple), living with their "spyware" is the only way forward because everything older is no longer supported by anything.
-
Why anyone would want to stay on W8 over W10 is beyond me.

This is kind of a guess but from the looks of it, DCS Standalone automatically prefers Oculus with Steam being a fallback? Currently you can open SteamVR while DCS and Oculus is running but you can't get a mirror of DCS to work through Steam's "Display VR View" window. And yes, I know Oculus has a mirror tool as well.

GPU Considerations, RTX2060 vs GTX1080Ti
Tailhook replied to Lemming's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
No, do not buy someones used 1080TI. If you want to stay with NVIDIA, buy a new 2070 SUPER or standard 2080 and sell your 2060. -
Twitch2DCS - Simple twitch chat UI inside DCS

Looks like you installed it to the main sim directory, not under savedgames. Running a repair/cleanup should clear it up. -
Upgrading cpu/mb: 3900x or 9900k?
Tailhook replied to Rossterman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For DCS, until ED does something about multi-threading then you want to remain with Intel. Go with the 9900KS. -
[SUGGESTION] Mouse Support for higher Polling Rate
Tailhook replied to cancan69's topic in DCS Core Wish List
ED can't fix what it can't replicate and I'm almost certain whatever you are seeing is just isolated to your system and/or configuration. This is the first I've ever seen someone speak of issues with mouse input regarding mouse polling rates. You seem to be able to replicate whatever you are seeing with low framerate and a low pole-rate mouse. Looking at your specs your CPU is fine, GPU should be fine, but your ram speed is low. I bet if you invested in faster ram you would see much less system hitching. The jump from 1333 to 2400 would be very noticeable. Also why are you on a very old version of Windows 10? -
My VR zoom is forward on red china hat, back is VR recenter.

Make those push. Problem solved.

Logitech G703 here at 1000hz wireless polling. No problems... -
Are you running a warthog? On the throttle thumb hat/comm switch I use forward/back to talk on SRS COMM1/2, and up/down to toggle opening and closing DCS COMM1/2 menu.

F-16C Cockpit Liveries / Custom cockpits?
Tailhook replied to Nightstorm's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
I don't know what is wrong with the plane but for some reason it keeps calling the default RoughMet instead of the one the livery is telling it to use. I spent a couple hours last night trying to figure it out but no luck. It does work however in the modelviewer. Are those 3 files listed above the only changed files? The mod below works in sim but the custom RoughMet isn't being loaded. I tried placing the liveries both in the sim directory and savedgames liveries folder. Perhaps PM Skatezilla or someone to get another pair of eyes on this. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Hg3HbaabLFEIfpIVVeNCjAeYhCDYV009 I saw this post from 2018: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3646463&postcount=104
