Leatherneck should consider hiring you BravoYankee4 :)

Guys, we are just having a friendly chat, not a contest. What's wrong with that? :)

AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition Graphics Driver
Brisse replied to Mustang's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
It's a bad idea, because the card is considered legacy, and no longer supported. -
Viggen avionics were digital and used solid state components. That even applies to the initial version developed back in the 60's, but there were major changes during it's lifespan, such as when they developed the Ja-37. I added another document in my previous post if anyone's interested. It's on the radar of the Ja-37.

How about this one? There's a video on the bottom if you get tired of the language barrier. http://www.f10kamratforening.se/Kamrat/Word/?page_id=407 How about this one? More details if you click the links to each variant: http://www.aef.se/Flygvapnet/Notiser/FPL37_Viggen.htm Old video from the Air Force. Not so much about the aircraft itself but more on the use of public roads as air bases. Plenty of old Viggen fotage. [ame]https://youtu.be/PoQtnugT6A4[/ame] Old video from a Swedish TV show. This episode talks about the history of the Viggen, especially the development and some political aspects of the project. Most good sources are in Swedish I'm afraid.

Gripen is going to have an ace up it's sleeve with the early adoption of the BAE Meteor. Not sure if it's fielded yet, but if not, then it should be pretty soon. Rumour is that it has three times the no escape zone of current AMRAAMS :) And yes, the Gripen RCS is quite small. This document has been circulating the internet for some time now.

Looking for a new card.. AMD vs Nvidia
Brisse replied to Farlander's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I currently have the 290X and it was a nightmare in old DCS, but since 1.5 and the new graphics engine it seems to be on par with the 970 which I'm really happy about. Before 1.5, it really was unplayable due to low framerate. -
Looking for a new card.. AMD vs Nvidia
Brisse replied to Farlander's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
For a long time Nvidia had the performance crown with the ridiculously overpriced Titan cards. AMD didn't have anything in that market segment and I think Nvidia got a lot of attention for this. People come to hasty conclusions and by word of mouth people have gotten it into their heads that Nvidia is just "better", or "faster" while in fact, AMD is a viable competitor in every other market segment except that very small top end segment which almost nobody can afford anyway. Also, the AMD driver has gotten a lot of hate. Maybe it was rightfully so a while back, but the recent two years or so it has improved a lot and for Windows 10 users I would say it has even surpassed the Nvidia driver, but the old opinions still stick into the minds of many people. And what the hell were AMD thinking when they were selling cards with the reference cooler a few years back? That cooler was terrible, and of course people got bad impressions from it. So glad they finally got rid of it. There was always the choice of buying a card with an aftermarket cooler, but it can't be denied how bad first impressions they make when the first reviews come out and there aren't any aftermarket models out yet so the reference version is the one that is reviewed. So yes, AMD has always been a viable alternative, but they have also gotten a shitty reputation, sometimes rightfully so. They are currently improving and has been doing that for a year or two but I fear it might be to late. The damage is already done and they now have a very small market share, probably selling cards with very little profit. -
The black one is enough. The others are for emergency if I understand correctly.

I haven't seen the data myself, but the new Viggen created for BMS4.33 has a flight model based on real life charts that were recently unclassified. I don't believe they have been published anywhere on the net, but someone working on BMS managed to get his hands on them, probably directly from the source which is apparently "Krigsarkivet", or "Military archives of Sweden". They also let a few real ex Viggen pilots briefly test and give feedback during the development of the flight model. I think the Viggen turned out to be a bit of a disappointment when it comes to manoeuvrability, agility, rate of climb and even top speed. It looses energy like crazy during turns. If one initiates a hard turn at optimal corner speed, it only takes a 180 degree turn until you are falling out of the sky. It seems to be closer to a MiG-21bis than a Mirage honestly, and even the MiG-21 does probably perform better under certain regimes. With that said, the Viggen isn't to be underestimated. It's just not as manoeuvrable as people think. It has other advantages, like radar, avionics, data-link, ergonomics, ease of use, weaponry and range etc.... I think it's a formidable aircraft in BVR, but it's not a dogfighter. I just wish I could lay my hands on the raw data they used to create the BMS flight model :)

Nope, not at all. I want DCS to simulate the aircraft. If it's done correctly then the balance will be the same as it is IRL, which doesn't necessarily mean it's balanced at all. I was just pointing out to the others that what they think is a balanced fight, might not be very balanced after all. Seeing natural opponents to current modules being developed is nice, but not mandatory in my opinion. What I mean by natural opponent is an aircraft in the same role and same era such as the F-5E by Belsimtek which is good opponent against the MiG-21bis. That doesn't necessarily mean it's a balanced fight. The only way to have a balanced fight is to have two aircraft of the same model go up against each other with balanced starting conditions.
-
Nope. Mirage is going to be so OP :( Even if it's a JA, it's going to have a really hard time against the Mirage 2000C. Sure, you can attempt to go up against the Mirage, but unless you get a quick kill at BVR, you are pretty much screwed in the Viggen I think. It would have to be the Ja-37D which can carry the AIM-120B. That could be an interesting match.

The Vive support isn't even public yet, and probably just in the very early stages, so I don't see why it's hilarious. When the Oculus is released I expect it to work properly in DCS. Right now, everything is just experimental work in progress.

Looking for a new card.. AMD vs Nvidia

I think you will be happy with your 970. The Asus Strix card has a really good heatsink. It is slightly slower than a R9 390, but it has other advantages. If you already bought it, then I'd say stick with it. It's not worth the hassle to return it and get another card. It's not a bad card. -
Oh yes, of course. How stupid of me

Not DCS related, but the lower latency in dx9 is very evident in Payday 2. That was almost unplayable with v-sync on because of the huge latency even with the maximum 135fps that the game engine supports. Now it's almost as good as with v-sync off. Huge improvement. -
And how do you explain the catfighter?

Why no Matthew Wynn on your website team page? :music_whistling: http://www.leatherneck-sim.com/team/

Looking for a new card.. AMD vs Nvidia
Brisse replied to Farlander's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Got my 290X before the 390X replaced it. It's the same card but with a higher factory clock and twice the memory. The price of the 390X increased with at least the equivalent of 100USD, so I'm really glad I got the 290X when I did. This would be good advice if we were still at DCSW 1.2 but since EDGE was released in 1.5, things have become very different. AMD performs just as good as Nvidia in DCS now. -
Of course. I visit at least once per day, and it's not because I expect the new modules to be announced in this thread. That obviously deserves a new thread when it happens.

Which isn't a problem. Perhaps it was five years ago. -
Yes. Have a look in the following folder. The path may vary depending on where you installed the sim. C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircraft\Su-25T\Doc That's the file path for the Su-25T manual.
