This is unrelated to DCS but this driver is causing me problems while watching youtube videos with HTML5 and Firefox. Video runs fine for a few seconds, then it starts to lag and ultimately the catalyst driver crashes and resets. 15.8 beta was working fine.

The changelogs are often posted in advance. ED is based in Russia and it's the middle of the night at their offices right now, so don't expect it in the nearest hours.
-
Wags has been saying in recent video updates that there will be no steam early access, which I assume means that the open beta will not be available on steam. You will have to get it from ED website.
-
Yes, that would be AI in this case, but there are rumours that they are working on a DCS module for this aircraft.

A normal map adds "depth" to the textures you see on the model. Read more about it here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_mapping Glad there will be 6dof cockpit for the MiG-29. Is this the last of the old cockpits? Are they all updated to proper 6dof now? I expect to see the beta available before the end of the week now that the change-log is posted :)

M2000 is a bit older than Rafale, EF and Gripen. It's probably a bit unfair to compare M2000 to these three, but on the other hand it is much more modern than the MiG-21bis.

In that case it's not worth upgrading in my opinion. Have a little patience and wait for the new top of the line GPU's that comes out in 2016. Rumour is that Nvidia will release their first GPU based on their Pascal architecture in early 2016. We are talking about 16GB of HBM2 memory. The Titans and 980ti's will be seriously outdated by then.

The R9 295X is an dual GPU card, which has a bunch of disadvantages. I'm not going to get into details, but unless you already know about the problems of dual GPU then I suggest you do some research. I would suggest going with either of these single GPU cards instead: Nvidia GeForce GTX 980ti AMD Radeon R9 Fury X With that said though, I also want to point out that at this price point, the performance per dollar is ridiculously bad. If you want a card that is still plenty fast but gives better value for your money, I would suggest one of these: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 AMD Radeon R9 390 The two last cards are more than capable of driving any current game at 1440p resolution at very good framerates without compromising on ingame settings.

Almost every PSU on the market, including really cheap ones, are of the switched-mode type. It's been like that for at least a decade. You can assume that anything I have been writing applies to switched-mode power supplies. The 80+ certification only looks at loads between 20 - 100%. It doesn't tell us anything about the efficiency below 20%, which in your case with the AXi1200 is 240W. If your idle is 145W, then you are below the break point where the efficiency of your power supply goes down. With 800W I'm pretty sure you already have overclocking headroom even for a machine with two powerful graphics cards.
-
And don't forget to think about the efficiency during those long sessions when your PC is idling or close to idling, such as when browsing the web. PSU efficiency plummets at low load (with a break point usually somewhere between 10-20% of full load). A modern PC may be idling at 50-125W and with a PSU rated at 1000W or more, you can easily end up with a PC that idles below that break point where efficiency plummets. If you make this mistake, your PC may very well end up drawing twice as much from the wall socket than necessary during idle. Most PC's spend a lot of time idling, so this is not insignificant.
-
One just has to remember though, that a PC almost never runs at it's full theoretical load, even during demanding gaming sessions. Because of this, it is better to make sure that your average load is around the 50% mark, not the full load. Example: We have a PC that draws 500W at full load. Realistically this is only going to draw 350-450W average during gaming, with peaks towards 500W. (a lot of people don't know this, or simply ignore because they don't fully understand it's consequences) If one thinks that you should have a PSU that runs at 50% of max load, then you are going to end up with a 1000W PSU. In reality, this is 200W more than the most efficient choice, which is more like 400W*2=800W.
-
As an engineer I would have to disagree. By going overkill, you get worse efficiency. Sure, the PSU might have a high efficiency rating, but the efficiency varies depending on the load (high in the middle, drops off at the extreme ends), and if you buy a very large PSU for a not so power hungry computer, you will end up running the PSU at very low load which hurts efficiency and wastes electricity and money unnecessarily. Future PC components will only become more and more energy efficient and if you buy a 1000W PSU today, chances are that it will just be even more overkill for your next PC. I would only recommend 1000W for PC's with multiple graphics cards, never for use with a single graphics card. The best thing is to calculate the needs for every individual PC build though, so that you end up running the PSU at loads where it runs most efficiently. It's really not that hard to do, and if someone doesn't know the math themselves, then there are numerous websites that will do it for you. This is one of my favourites: http://powersupplycalculator.net/

Think AMD FD8350 will work well with 1.5/2.0?
Brisse replied to Soulres's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
The FX-8350 is still a powerful CPU by today's standard, but sadly there's not much software out there that is able to fully utilize it. The new rendering engine coming with 1.5 might help a little, but I don't have too high hopes because it uses dx11 which does not multi thread well enough for the FX-8350. This CPU need dx12 to really shine thanks to the much better multi threading in dx12. With that said though, I have ran DCS for a long time on my FX-8350 and with an over-clock at 4.6ghz DCS runs okay. Not great, but acceptable. -
Leatherneck Simulations Mini-Update - SEPTEMBER 2015
Brisse replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
They are a lot more employees now than back when they made the MiG-21bis. With the right workflow and enough people, they can make several modules at the same time without putting anything "on the back burner". -
Nice teaser! Really looks amazing. The newsletter was a happy surprise. I didn't know the module was so close to release, but perhaps I haven't been following the forums enough lately. This is a must buy for me, if the reactions on the forum look positive after release.

Leatherneck Simulations Mini-Update - SEPTEMBER 2015
Brisse replied to Cobra847's topic in Heatblur Simulations
My first thought when reading this list was "Harrier", but then someone mentioned the Viggen, and that seems to fit as well. Both would be really interesting additions to DCS in my opinion, so I'll take either :) But then again, Leatherneck might still surprise us one way or another. Nice update. Not as small as the title suggested. -
These include the dx11 overhead improvements we previously seen on Windows 10 TP drivers and 15.15. http://forums.guru3d.com/showpost.php?p=5117743&postcount=955

Hello! Just wanted to share an observation I made when I recently went from Windows 7 to 10 using a fresh install. I own almost all currently released modules. Before I wiped out my storage I deactivated all my DCS modules. I used to think the process of deactivation and activation was okay, but now that there are so many modules available we are getting into a situation were it becomes very tedious. Sooner or later it will become unacceptable, and personally I think we are already there. It will only get worse when more modules are released unless something is done to fix the problem. There are reasons why I cry out about this. I want to get ED's attention, so that they can see that there is a problem and to make sure our opinions are available to them. I am curious to see if more customers agree with me and I'm putting up a poll to see if this is the case. I also want to encourage you to voice your opinion and possible solutions in the thread. I hope ED can do something to make the process easier, and I hope this thread leads us there.

Can DCS World run on a 32 bit OS ?
Brisse replied to Anatoli-Kagari9's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
No, the current version does not have 32-bit support. Perhaps if you could find an old version of DCS? Why would you be running a 32-bit system in 2015 anyway? -

A simple but high performance gaming mouse such as Logitech MX518 or Razer Deathadder is what I prefer for DCS and anything else I do at my computer. Don't forget to use a good mousepad together with your mouse, it's almost as important as the mouse itself. Right now I'm using a Deathadder 3.5G on a Steelseries QcK mousepad. Very happy with this combination.

Making a list would not make sense, because most modules are created somewhat equally. The only thing you need to know is that any module branded as "Flaming Cliffs" is simplified. Full fidelity modules currently available: DCS: C-101 Aviojet by AvioDev DCS: MiG-15bis by Belsimtek Hawk T.1A for DCS World by VEAO Simulations DCS: MiG-21bis by Leatherneck Simulations DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfurst DCS: F-86F Sabre by Belsimtek DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight by Belsimtek DCS: UH-1H Huey by Belsimtek DCS: A-10C Warthog DCS: P-51D Mustang DCS: Black Shark 2 Simplified (Flaming Cliffs) modules currently available: Su-27 for DCS World F-15C for DCS World Su-25 for DCS World A-10A for DCS World DCS: Flaming Cliffs 3 (collection of several aircraft, including those listed above) Other modules: DCS: Combined Arms

Surround Sound Setup Question
Brisse replied to walker450's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Oh, so you have the Z5500. I have had them myself for ten years or so, although I don't use them much anymore :) Something isn't right with the output from the sound card. Your receiver isn't receiving a Dolby Surround or DTS stream, because effects would be disabled if it were. Look at page 6 in the manual you linked. You can see two "screenshots" of the LCD there. That's exactly what yours should look like when your sound card is configured properly. It's not the receivers fault. You only have to select the optical input and then everything else should sort itself out. It automaticly detects what kind of stream it receives and it can decode both Dolby Surround and DTS. So as I said, something seems wrong with your sound card driver. It seems to output stereo PCM (judging by what your receiver shows you) no matter what settings you use. DCS does have support for surround. Once everything is set up correctly in your sound card driver it should be fairly obvious that it does. Try moving your head around in the cockpit while listening to the engine sound. Edit: By the way, do you have an option for SPDIF bypass in your sound card driver? If you do, then you need to turn that off, otherwise Dolby or DTS output won't work and it will just be PCM no matter what you select. -
Surround Sound Setup Question
Brisse replied to walker450's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Don't use any effects on your receiver/speakers. The "Dolby Music" and other settings you see there are for upmixing stereo to surround. If you set your sound card driver to 5.1 and DTS Interactive, you are already getting REAL surround and using one of those effects on your receiver will only degrade your experience. If you can't tell that your are getting surround, then check if your sound card driver is set to 2 channel or 6 channel. It need to be set to 6 channels, otherwise the game will think you have only stereo speakers and will only output two channels.
