  1. The map is free, the 3 aircraft are free + AI. I already have the Mustang, and will get FW190 at day 1. And many others will too, because most of the crowd here are WWII enthusiast and won't be able to wait 1+ year to get it. I don't care for paper printed stuff. So basically, I wouldn't get anything for any amount of pledge, at this time.
  2. Yeah those greedy bastards need to chip in :) Hope they add some awards. Like 200$ for 6 future payware aircraft. Pledgers choice. Now that would make me cut from other things and pledge, even though my this year's entertainment budget is bust. Other ways I'm just paying so the naysayers can have the game for free.
  3. Can you provide a quote for this part?
  4. A lot of people live in countries where a 100$ is a whole year's budget for entertainment. And I'm not talking kids or students. Real job people. So it's not just about being greedy.
  5. Here's my wildest guess. The map may be used with regular DCSW so they may be getting some funding there. This will bring in many, MANY new players to the table, especially with it being free, which will make things like dedicated server possible. And many other things. I mean, in 2-3 years there may be more WWII content than modern jets. So ED might be backing up the studio to create that content because it will help the whole community. Plus, they might be working on things for the Fighter collection. They already did work for the Dora cockpit. So there's a ton of different possibilities. Or, they have other sources of income, not related to DCS at all, and they are willing to invest their money into making a sim series which will turn out modules for years to come. The first year and the free stuff is just a bait. I hope.
  6. That will do a lot of damage to some wallets :)
  7. Haha I think that sums up all of my ranting about the business model. They wore me down, I give up, take my money and make the damn sim  That would be a great idea! I think I'll go down that route. Get the 40$ pledge and when it gets out, give the P-51 and Dora keys to an active member of the forum.
  8. Please do!! Maybe let the highest backers vote on it. Let them try it and decide. It would be risky though. Those who like the longer high altitude flights would appreciate it, but those are a minority. Majority of the players would probably complain about the vague terrain.
  9. ↑↑↑ Nah, that must have been the coarse collision model. That thing was probably a good few feet away from the tree.
  10. Yep! Bringing home a stricken aircraft is just as much fun as the dogfight itself. And imagine that in a B-17...
  11. Soon, soon my friend :D You will be thanking god for WWII content, in any shape or form. Hundreds and hundreds of new players from other sims. And when the War of thunder crowd gets bored, or gets a taste for something more... WWII is what will bring you dedicated servers, multi-crew, ground radars, F-35s, F-18 and all the other stuff that all these new players will want to try, and it will become profitable to develop such modules at a much faster rate than before WWII. We will take your apology then. Else, we blitzkrieg you.
  12. I say, if you're not sure AND on a budget. Wait on it. Have fun getting to know the mustang, reading up on tactics, and practice... Then when 50$ accumulates, you'll be good to go. When the dora comes out, there'll be months and months of fun to be had just practicing dogfights, with AFM, complex engine management and human opponents.
  13. Thanks. With the CPU upgrade it will be very interesting to see how much more that brings to the table.
  14. Just a question, so you would rather not have it at all, then for it to be a separate install? Where is the gain in that?
  15. What are you an amateur ?? :D Don't fall for that trap! 1) "YES" always means "NO"! 2) No "NO" always means "YES" 3) See number 1
  16. You guys better start washing those dishes :D Yes I know about the time limit, and that most successful campaigns are the 30 day ones, and the failures are usually the longer ones. Make the campaign 300 days, but let the community know months in advance, that would make more sense to me. I could be wrong though.
  17. Can't wait! But one question though: Why all the secrecy up until the announcement. And then have the announcement just 5 days before the kickstarter launch? Reaching all those thousands and thousands of backers would have been a lot easier if we knew what the plan was a couple of months ago. Just a general idea, look guys, we've gathered a team and it's happening. DCS WWII, maps, planes, the works. But we'll need a lot of help kickstarting this, so spread the word. Me personally, as I said in the other thread, would gladly pledge up to 200$ no questions asked. And double that if things got tight towards the end of the campaign. But it will be hard, and maybe just impossible with only a 30+5 day notice. Since that's a whole month's worth of entertainment money. And this goes for every level pledge. People who can afford only 10$ monthly, could've pledged more if they new about the incoming kicstarter some months ago. Might just be some part of development management I'm missing here... Anyway, let's make some noise so we get this campaign as far as possible!
  18. I couldn't care less :D I would drop 200$ on a DCS B-17 in a heartbeat! And I'm not even rolling in cash. It's 2-3 months of partying, or any other entertainment. ED spoiled everyone with their pricing :) There's gotta be 200 people/entities in the world that would go for a premium like that. Museums, private operators, model builders and other enthusiasts. That alone would get it kickstarted... would need a lot of marketing to get the word out, though. Then again, I could be just dreaming :music_whistling:
  19. Haha, this was the awkward name?? I think you did alright :D Don't think they would have let you go with "DCS: Skies of blood" (joke name, I know) DCS titles are not very poetic. But real world, just like the sim itself, and that's what the community wants, I guess. Maybe shorten it some. So just "DCS: WWII" and then name the maps/theaters/modules... Or "DCS: Europe 1944". But I understand you need WWII for the marketing impact. About the B-17: You should really consider making the stretch goal an SFM, with simplified engine management at first, and no multi crew. And later have the DCS level B-17 as separate module. Because bomber simmers are usually more "mature" (read: crazy) players, who wouldn't mind paying a premium price for big dream-come-true module like that. Even have the AFM, CEM and multi crew, all as separate purchases. Because I would be willing to pay upwards of a good joystick price for a DCS level B-17. So up to 200$ with all the bells and whistles. (I would even double that to 400$ if needed). Or even better, 50$ for a FC3 level B-17, and then later 50$ for AFM, 50$ for CEM, 50$ for multi crew etc... Basically, I would gladly pay a premium price, than not have it at all. Or in 5 years. And there are probably many more like me.
  20. @Luthier: What were some of the other title choices for this sim? You mentioned a possibility for a very awkward name, what was it?
  21. Yep, I was also sold once I saw the communication level. Hope it stays here for the entire development process, although he could take a brake now :D
  22. Exactly my point. I vote for the all-in-one sandbox sim. But, if they decide that separate installations are the safest bet for this new endeavor to be a financial success, then by all means, go ahead, make your payday. Just bring me my WWII study sim, I'll take it anyway they are able to serve it.
  23. That's all there is to it. It's not about making the most wonderful sim, it's about making a sim that sells. I'm pretty sure that all, all of our ideas would flop as commercial products. Somebody has to be the grownup and make the hard decisions. I trust they thought long and hard, and went with the best compromise...
  24. This!! You'd be surprised to see what one can achieve when not working underneath a group of financial decision makers that have abolutely no knowledge or interest in what you are making in the first place. Yourself/team being the only thing standing between you and success/profit can be an incredible incentive and motivation. And a question for Luthier: Since your team is a 3rd party developer, would it make DCS WWII world open for 4th party content? If a team decides to make a study level plane, that's not on your list, would it be compatible with your world?
  25. There we go! Hope it wasn't rushed because of our psycho posts :)
