Pay for all planes. Think about it. You can bet your ass there will be 10.000 people worldwide buying WWII modules that have WWII environment and ground units to go with. That's 400.000$ you're giving away with a DCS level module. That money could pay for a B-17, a bigger map, better core features development. And we're in a niche market, if it goes away for free it will never get back. EDIT: post intended for the "free plane poll", but what the heck...
-
Making only 1 airplane free is great! Giving 3 away for 1$ defeats the purpose of hitting the stretch goal entirely. It doesn't say 3 free planes in the 1$ description of the pledge? Just change the entire campaign description/goal to 1 free plane. And 40$ gets you 3. The vote here is something like 99% in favor of that. Bad press?? From whom? The ones that were not planing on paying ever, getting the free planes and dissecting them apart giving more bad press? I can already imagine them with the alpha access. They'll kill you even before you start selling. And for free. This way at least you'll get something from them. You have nothing to loose here, the only question is how much you will gain. I would also limit the free airplane to something like no click able cockpit, no 6dof or something like that. Like the Su-25.
-
Oh I see. But that would be a breach of kickstarter rules?
-
Where did you get that from? The idea is to make everything payware, except for the trainer. You get planes either by backing, or by buying after the release.
-
Yes! A free trainer aircraft. Or, if it would be possible, a fighter without guns and only 20% fuel. So you would be able to do takeoffs, landings, and explore the world. Also, I have yet to see a single person complaining about the prospect of the aircraft not being free for non backers. And so many are suggesting to make it so.
-
No promises would be broken to people that gave money. They get their 3 planes for "free", of for their pledge. The only promise broken would be to anyone that hasn't pledged. I'm pretty sure these modules make more than 200.000$ revenue in the first year. And WWII ones would do much better. So with 3 free ones, you're basically giving away a cool million of development money.
-
Yeah, so backers get 3 for free. Anybody downloading the final release gets 1. Better yet, make that free one with some limitations. That would make me, and a lot of others, pledge immediately! The only ones that would get mad about that, are the ones that have no interest in paying ever. I'm sure it wouldn't bother a single supporter.
-
Wait, that's a possibility? Within kickstarter rules? That would be a no brainer then, I would be forced to pledge immediately.

I'm a huge DCS and WWII sim fan. I own every DCS module, but I haven't pledged yet. Why? Because of the "free" thing. Money is tight, and I can't afford to pay for others to have free content. I'll feel bad and a traitor for it, but it's the most logical thing to do given the choice to have it for free. But I will gladly pay for any additional content you can offer after the initial release. So my suggestion would be to make the free content limited, but as good as possible. So quality not quantity. That will be the best marketing campaign you can imagine. Then after the initial release, use the content you have, and use the skilled video makers that this forum can offer and make a killer trailer for "what could be". And I mean let these guys do their magic. With radio comms, voice overs and what not. Make it a small blockbuster. I mean, you sold one million copies of Il-2, you gotta know there are more than 1600 simmers out there. If you make 3 DCS level WWII planes, and tie it up into a playable WWII map, you are set! After that, you say jump! We ask how high?

Another disruptive technology...

So one could build a window frame of a certain cockpit, and cover the windows with this fabric, and be able to have the view a real pilot has? AND see the simpit controls? Is this everything I've been praying for?? EDIT: Looks like it might really be the answer for us flight simmers: http://www.tested.com/tech/concepts/455605-hands-castar-augmented-reality-glasses/ -
Is it just me, or does he look like a magician, that he is :) He seriously needs a magician's robe.

Smart move... Don't finish video on time, make a "fake" private release. Go to "sleep". "Wake" up in 24 hours with the finished video :) Just kidding. Let him be. Apparently he is human, and suffers from lack of concentration after a double shift. It'll be just a funny story to laugh at when we talk about how the most detailed WWII sim in pc history was created.

I think A-10 guys just might like this one. It is it's predecessor right? -

HOLLY S..T! I just glanced at that picture and I was immediately "there". -
Explains the meaning "free as a bird"

The most successful aces probably got what ever they wanted. With 20,50, 300 kills you're pretty much your own boss. And as every sim pilot thinks he's an ace... you get the point :music_whistling:

Well, gaming is becoming a national sport and gamers celebrities in Korea, so this wouldn't be a crazy thought at all.
-
It's been debated before. Yes, convergences were customized, but it's not as simple as saying I want 200 instead of 300 yards. This is a study sim after all, and setting the convergence is a diligent task best not left to every individual pilot. That would cause more harm than good. If I understood correctly, pilots didn't set convergences for themselves. Most rookies had the default settings, and those with experience had their ground crew set it up for them. And it took complex charts and boring in and whatnot. Having it as 'oh give 100 yards, give 300 yards' would be an arcade style
-
A split stretch goal would be wise. My vote goes to making the core game as best as you can. Once you get a decent WWII study sim out, you' will have customers for life. Repair your glory, and wee will fund any future project you can throw at us.

Doing ground attacks with the P-47 and bringing it home with 3 cylinder heads hanging out the side... that would be something to experience!

DCS WWII: Europe 1944 - Unofficial Promotional Trailer
hegykc replied to Bucic's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Very nicely done! -
This would be the difference between prototype surface quality (although much better than the actual example) printed on a hobby FDM printer. And final product printed by a DLP printer. If I don't approve even the DLP quality, then I make molds for cold resin casting.
