Updated the driver last night. I had the opposite of Smil. Nice increase in FPS, on my 560ti 2gig. So far, loving the new driver.

Installed. Freekin awesome. I may be more excited than others, because I never used this with BS1. Its very nice looking. Makes the pit look so damn real. Only tested for 20 mins or so with DCS World, and maybe 20 mins with BS2 1.1.1.1. Both great so far. No hit of FPS either.

If that was directed to me, you must understand I talking about sims in general, not just DCS. I am still too new to DCS, and have only DL'd Bigfoot's traning missions. Another option to those are paid ones. I think the ones I used are brilliant. From what I gather, not missing much compared to paid ones. Maybe my mind will change later. Who knows. Anyway good too see there is more coming from you guys. It will obviously make lots of people happy to hear. Good luck.

I have to say I am impressed and totally blown away by the immersion this adds. Gold standard in voice comms.

Very much looking forward to this. I dont think I could do the Russian version though. Learned with the English, and even Devrims other mod "English HUD" (which is totally awesome btw), I think it would throw me off bad :joystick:. But just the HD cockpit is going to be a huge leap, imo.

Well, I would prefer to fly my favorite FW10 A-4, but chances of seeing that anytime soon is slim, so I understand. BS has been my first Heli sim, and I have to say, never looked at it a dogfighter. Its a ground attack platform unless I am way off base. So comparing a chopper to WWII or even modern plane air to air combat is rather off-base. Sure it has capabilities of fighting A to A, just like the 109 had the capabiltity to drop bombs. In both instances not its primary role. And maybe I am just bad, but trying to shoot down another heli while flying, while evading, while trying to either lock him in the shkval or bore is not "easy as pointing your guns at him". If you could do it, I would love to see a track of how easy it is. Maybe I could learn something? The last part that is bolded, I think you totally wrong. How else is someone supposed to answer the OP's questions without an opinion? There is no right answer, and the opnions given *I* would find helpful in the same situation. No offense, but thats how I see it. Also this the same Echo from RoF? I assume so, since the a 2 a you are describing sounds what people in RoF talk about alot. Perfect gentlemans gunzo dogfight. Which take real accounts and see that rarely happened. I agree here.

Honestly, its a good surprise to see many other folks that love the Ka-50. By the way this forum, mission makers, MP, and just activity looks, one might think DCS = A10 only. I do understand the A10 is a bit easier to fly, and its the latest un-beta plane, but still, cant deny how awesome it is to fly and shoot in the Black Shark.

True on most of your points, and I agree. But remember, War Thunder is the same people that made Wings of Prey. You know the Wings of Prey that used the IL2 in the name. They were touting it as a sim with simple controls as an option and pulled more folks from original IL2 with the name, that were disappointed in lack of even moderate simulation. (i.e. missions could not progress if you didnt have unlimited bombs, due to 30 objectives needing to be destroyed by a flight of 3 planes) You have to understand the large gap between quality WWII sims. The hype and utter letdown that was/is Cliffs of Dover led some people to put hope into WT. There is a large group (me included) wanting a modern WWII sim, and now there is WT, and others like Damage Inc. At least the later doesnt not claim to have "simulation" settings. If you read my view on WT, I said it can still be enjoyed by folks, just not me. I wish they would not straddle the arcade/sim fence to grab the largest market they can. Some people are going to think the "simulation" setttings are just that, and be disappointed, when they find out it isnt even close. If you go into it knowing its an arcade type shooter you just have some fun.

This for sure. As much as I keep telling myself I will learn to fly the A10 more, I always come back to the Ka-50. More of a challenge to fly? Sure. Less sensors, resulting in getting hit and going "wth just hit me?"? Sure. A basic b/w tv screen for finding targets? Sure. Creeping along a treeline and in between buildings like a sniper, and taking out 3 sam sites that have been lighting up the A10's...hell yeah! The Ka-50 is a beast to learn, but really rewarding when you do. I also find it is most fun when flying with other fixed wings in co-op. To be honest, get both BS and A10 though. Will keep you busy, and both are great. Get the P-51 for "playing around" fun if you have the extra cash.

Did I strike a nerve by giving an opinion of RoF? RoF is a game. Every sim game has "gameplay". And I do agree, it is fine at depicting a limited variety of sorties. Hence my analogy. It isnt "unmatched" in FM and DM, unless you are comparing it to other WWI flight games...of which the closest one is Over Flanders Fields using CFS3 (over 10 year old engine). So RoF has nobody to compete with. But if you are saying in general comparing DM and FM to every flight game, you are very wrong.

The fact that someone sold you a workstation GPU, for gaming, is very suspect in my book. Even if you went top of the line in GPU with say a 690GTX, you would have saved over $1000 dollars. Thats a new joystick, monitors, trackir, and headphones, etc. etc. If you do a little research, you can see that a beast of a gaming PC can be built for sub $1500. It sounds like the guy who sold it to you either doesnt know about a gaming PC, and just looked up the most pricy "Graphics Card", or knew he could get away with it. So to sum up, unless you are doing intense CAD work or other productivity on a large scale, yes, you got screwed.

I would be more excited about it if RoF had more depth, or even a decent campaign. Its a very pretty sim, but hollow when it comes to gameplay. It reminds me of my younger years...taking the real hot girl home to do the deed, then talking to her after and find out she is boring and dumb, without much to say. No regrets mind you, but only good in short bursts.

If it was an upgrade to the Ka-50, it wouldnt take as much time to do, right? I would not mind to have an upgraded Ka-50, while waiting for a new helo to come out.

No offense to some campaign/mission builders, but I have never purchased user made ones in any game I have played. One reason is for this exact issue. Also, when a patch comes out, or an upgrade it is hit or miss they will still work, or will even be revised to work. The fact you never know when support will end, and the fact many builders make free ones, and just as good if not better than paid makes it hard for me to shell out for.

Well, not really. You can enjoy both sim and arcade, just dont go in expecting WT to be a sim and you might enjoy it....maybe. Personally, I cant think of a better feeling than flying the Ka-50, yet I would play the crap out of Crimson Skies again.
