1. I can't say much about the not released aircraft (ofc...), but from what I've heard the Spitfire is tricky to be flown on the edge of its envelope, so that could be a piloting challenge. I guess the 109 will have a significant punch with its 30mm cannon, but as far as I understood from the product description it will not feature the EZ42 gyrosight, so shooting will be a bit tougher, especially for beginners in WWII warbirds like me... BTW: I still wonder if the 109 will feature the wingmountable cannons? The P-47 and Me-262 will come later, so I guess my picks will be the FW190 and the BF109 and then see what time brings.
2. I won't read all the answers now, so please ignore this if it already has been mentioned: TrackIR allowes to be the zoom instead of head-movement in Z direction. Simply go to the axis controls of the A10 and map TrackIR-Z to the zoom axis by selecting assign and then move your head towards the monitor for axis input. Can be a bit tricky to get it to recognize but it works. I use a slider axis I have on my throttle. Unfortunatly the sensor is damaged (guess thats a wear and tear problem of the X52) and therefor inacurate: the signal jumps making it impossible to use for zoom axis if you don't want to get sick. Trick: Lower the X-Satuation and increasy the deadzone greatly (80%), by doing this you get 3 Plateaus, making it possible to get far out, normal and full zoom as stages. Third possibility I also use is the cooliehat. If you don't already need it for additional features and don't need it for looking around (because you have headtracking) you can map zoom in / out on forward/aft. cooliehat buttons. I use this for finetuning zoom in case I don't only want full zoom. Hope this helps, Mav
3. This is the reason why I programmed my own profile: If you do it yourself its quite easy to remember. In this case, this was more or less ment as an overview of the keys that could be important, but I guess you are right, this is a bit off the topic. Still the list of commands you need for the A10 is long: "all hotas commands" itself is quite a bit as it features 5? cooliehats and several switches like boat, china and NWS. In fact, thats about all you REALLY need I guess. The aircraft is designed to be used with HOTAS in the situations where you don't have the time to get your hands off the controls. I additionally like to have zoom on the stick, as I don't like it to be my TrackIR-Z-axis. I don't have much mapped apart from this: Airbrake is an essential control, so I would map it if possible. NightVision is something you barely need, so thats nice to have. Autopilot functions are handy on the stick, but I guess keyboard is enough here, same for refueling gate. Gun Pac / Arm switch is a very handy thing to have as you are able to decide to do point fire or strafing runs right before execution. The whole steerpoint mode and for. aft. on the scrollwheel is quite handy when managing a lot of target data, for example for multiple jdam drops.
4. Given the old stick you are using, with the large deadzones, I'd save some money and shoot an inexpensive and very rich in function saitek x-52. I really like the stick for its configurability and cheap price. For the settings: I fly without any curves or deadzones
5. This is a Picture of the Profile I've created for the X-52. Features all buttons I've mapped:
6. Thx, but trackfiles are... I just cant describe how bad and inacurate they are without using words I'd rather not use here ^^ The screen recording (recording on purpose) is not really a feaure I want to use. Besides it does not work for me ingame. I just recognized I can make a video of the menu (launcher.exe), and it will be labeled "Ghost Recon Phantoms"... But what I really would like is the shadowplay function: always recording in the background and only saving the last X min when the hotkey is pressed. But for DCS it wont start the background recording (or any recording in my current case) EDIT: Just recognized the error: DCS was not recognized because I was running it in windowed fullscreen mode. Now that I'm running it fullscreen it is recognized and background recording works!
7. Hey guys, I'd really like to use Shadowplay with DCS, as there are moments in Multiplayer I would like to have captured. I don't like running a recording software permanently, as my disk space is limited, so this feature is really what I'm looking for. But DCS does not seem to be natively supported, any Ideas how I can get it running in DCS? Thanks in advance, Mav
8. I did not have a lot of experience with BS1, but I don't think that there is much of a difference to BS2. BS2 is compatible with DCS: World so if you like to fly the Shark this is a good deal. Also there is (or was?) a discount for BS1-owners. The Huey is a totally different experience, as there are AI Gunners. And don't expect the Huey to be deployable against armored targets, nice against soft targets though. Same for the Mi-8, very fun to fly but not effective against Tanks or AA. The BF109-K-4 is not released yet, so can't tell anything about it. By the way, will it feature the wing-mountable cannons? Anyways, I really like the old Warbirds and I think I'm going to buy all of them at least after some time. P-51 and Fw-190 are really fun to fly in Multiplayer! I found myself quite fine without pedals while flying the Ka-50 and the Huey, they are quite stable in yaw as long as you don't have a change in torque. I decided to buy pedals for flying the WWII Warbirds, as it is important to eliminate slip for good dogfighting and accurate fire. The input from the twist axis just wasn't fine enough to accomplish this. And yes, it has improved my helo-flight aswell, goodbye rudder-trim ^^
9. Why the hell do people write such things? You can play MP with any module available. The Su-25T comes for free with the also free main game DCS: World. So you are able to play on the Servers for free, but the Mission has to contain the Su-25T in order for you to take part. Not every Mission will feature all aircraft!
10. How about you step on the brakes a bit... I simply said that isolated figures are quite meaningful for comparison of two different systems. This is the way you would try to compare them, as they are f***ing different! MTOW is MTOW, no matter what kind of propulsion system you use or whatever. I NEVER said you could utilize something like the pure engine power to spot a difference! But I'm the one who's ignorant??? And as I already said, I'm not that fit in rotor dynamics. ESPECIALLY WITH COAXIAL ROTORS. Read the whole post before getting back at me in a tone like that! And still the ~20% better efficiency of a coaxial rotor as you mentioned it, would not explain the experience of the op, that the helicopter with the more powerful engines (which is not wasting power on a rear rotor, which I also mentionend in my post... what you ignored) seems to perform worse EDIT: In case you misinterpreted my continued example of your biplane-monoplane problem: if you have the engine power, the wing area, the air density and the weight you can compare these two very different designs because the fact that the doubled surface of the biplane leads to double the lift, and most of the drag is induced by lift...
11. Wing Area and engine power is, apart from a coeffiecient depending on the distribution of lift over the wing, almost everything you need for a comparison. To stick with your biplane example: Assuming you have a similar shaped wing (same lift distr.), but the double wing area you are producing double the lift at the same speed and altitude. This leads to ~4x the drag at that speed. To get back to the Mi8/Ka50 issue: I'm not that fit in rotary wing dynamics, but if you take it simple (and the MTOW figures are correct) the Mi8 has better performance for takeoff as long as the takeoffweight is the same. I'd compare them at the same percentage of MTOW. If the MTOW is roughly the same I'd be a bit surprised aswell. The high momentum on takeoff would lead to quite a lot performance on the rear rotor... But again, I'm not very fit in rotary wing aerodynamics, especially when it comes to coaxial rotor systems
12. I had takeoff assist on at my first takeoff, as I did not think of it being activated by default. I managed to get up but cant draw a real comparision as I turned it off afterwards and never used it again. Compared to the Mustang the 190 is really a bit b*tchy while to/landing, but with some practise it is managable
13. was fun on the DoW Server until some douche was there attacking aircraft on the ground and just switched back to spectators before getting shot... Getting ID is easy if the angle is right, but it wont be until the fight is on ^^ I personally really like to p51 livery with stripes on the wing, makes it easy to distinguish friend from foe without any real disadvantage.
14. Hey Guys, my TrackIR partly stopped working in the P51. I only have the rotational DoF. Everything is correctly set up in the controls and every other Aircraft (Including TF-51) is working correctly. Any Ideas? Thanks, Mav
15. I don't think the tank will mind being attacked with a Sidewinder... 10kg HE warhead will create a good dent, but thats all. If your hardpoints are empty use the gun, you can kill anything with it that is not a hardened bunker
16. Hey, I've postet a "bug" on the p51 forum http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=128386 because of an error I've experienced. As I seem to be the only one, this must be a local problem. TrackIR is working on every Aircraft as intended, except the P51 (even the Tf51). On the P51 only the rotational degrees of freedom are available to me. The translative degrees of freedom are set correctly in the controls, but do not work. Any Ideas how to solve this? Thanks, Mav
17. The A10 is slow, that's a disadvantage indeed. But it is slow because this is a big advantage in terms of CAS. And that is what the A10 excells in. It can provide support for ground troops for a long time without the need to rtb, and can deliver munitions very close to friendlies. I don't really get why it shouldn't be effective against tanks with "auto aiming systems", a Tank won't be able to hit an A10 and even if it is strong enough to survive the GAU-8, there is no armour heavy enough to withstand an AGM-65. I don't know if it is really worth to be kept in service, but from my point of view it is the most effective ground attack plane there is. Its slow speed makes it vulnerable for enemy Aircraft, so air dominance or good air cover are crucial for its operational use. Imagining a full scale war of the big military powers is difficult, but I guess it would be a viable tank buster if supported as needed.
18. From what I know now, they are fine if they are preequipped by the mission editor. They wont work if loaded vía rearm&refuel dialogue
19. I have no problem getting bombs under the fuselage, but using them gives me a hard time. When my AC is preequiped with bombs, everything works fine. But in the Case my AC is clean and I order the groundcrew to arm me with bombs I can't drop them. Any hints?
20. Not having roll and yaw trim is not that big of a deal if you ask me. If you are flying the mustang and try to keep her trimmed so good that you don't have to do any input at all is more of a task than simply keep her flying as you want it to. EDIT: I've managed to cruise-trim her at roughly 1850rpm, 390km/h at sea level
21. Hi, I didn't fly the P51 for a while and now I noticed all translative degrees of freedom missing in the Mustang. Rotational DoF are still fine and all the TIR controls are mapped correctly. TF51 aswell as all other aircraft still behave like they should Greets, Mav
22. That depends on the profile. I have attached a file with the keyboard bindings I use to the profile I uploaded, and there are not many additional keys. I would also recommend to create your own profile, as it gives you the opportunity to learn how to use the (at last functional) very powerful sst software. Only downside on creating your own one is imho that you don't have a clue what you will need and where to put it when you start with the A10...
23. I would not use point mode to "track" a stationary target... I actually never tried it with a 12 but attacking a bridge with a 10 was successful for me
24. I have this stick and bought it with the intention to use it with more arcade like games like battlefield for example. And imho that's what it's good for. I once tried it in DCS while I had to repair my X52 and it was simply horrible... It's better than nothing I guess, but from what I've experienced it is way to inaccurate for a proper sim like DCS
25. push! I'd really like to know if there still is a solution. Target search and identification in aircraft without any optical target systems like the Su25 is quite difficult, and having binoculars one way or the other would really help
