  1. I don't think it would be a problem to release a first estimate with a sentence like "Current recommendations, WIP - might change to release"; but then yes... many people are quite narrow minded and might still be upset if it changes
  2. Your controls and so on are not located in the game folder but under C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\DCS; Your new install should recognize this folder and use it, so your control settings will remain. For the modules, I'm not sure, but I guess the easiest solution is downloading the current files from the website or use the built in download manager
  3. Is it possible to edit the maximum zoom level with the new file architecture? The file still exists but there is now line containing cameraviewanglelimits anymore. The Server.lua contains that line, but lowering that value does not seem to have any effect. (although raising it seems to decrease the zoom level)
  4. Any news on this? I'm planning on upgrading my video card and tend to buy a 2GB version of the 770; I'd bite my ass off if EDGE needs more / can use 4GB :-P
  5. Would be nice. From my point of view the creation of dirt "airfields" would suffice. I'd like to be able to create an airfield environment for a road for example in order to rearm and refuel
  6. I'm not familliar with JackBauer's profile. I've uploaded the profile I created, but it is currently only available for german keyboard layouts. The changes to be done are minor and I've noted them in the readme file so you can do it yourself easily. I guess I can find some time to edit and reupload it to the end of the week. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/702965/
  7. It really is no problem to set a waypoint with 6 digit UTM coordinates?!
  8. Air is a good cooling solution, just depends on the cooler. I have a similar liquid cooling solution and the only advantage seems to be weight. Air cooling solutions like the noctua nhd90 offer a better cooling but I chose one of those closed watercooling solutions in fear my mainboard will break while transporting the case with an almost 1kg cooler ^^
  9. I am running a 27" fullHD and a 24" 1680x1050 with a GTX 460 on medium settings and my framerates are at least acceptable. I am aswell thinking of buying the GTX 770 to get better framerates (and get ready for EDGE although I'll propably wait to see the impact it has on the performance), but I don't think more than 2GB of RAM are pretty useless unless you do rendering or CAD a lot. EDIT: just had a look into my GPU performance while running DCS on medium settings, a bit over 1GB if RAM in use, perhaps EDGE bringse it to, well, the EDGE? ^^ I still doubt more than 2GB are necessary
  10. I didn't do much research on that topic as I'm not that interested in it, but I read a lot of engineering related publications. I doubt you'd find a paper about modern ECM pods as the specific capabilities of one are classified and don't have anything to do with research. Thats more a case for an advertisement brochure. What you very well can find in research papers are for example studies on EMI and signal processing, what could bring you a basic knowledge on how guidance signals and jamming of those work. In the end this is all more or less an electromagnetic impulse emitted and recieved. My guess would be that GGTharos is right in the case that it is a software issue: the physics behind guidance and signal processing remain the same regardless of the SAM architechture. Knowing how the SAM works gives you the opportunity to precisely counter that SAM system while another SAM might be unaffected by the measures you employ against it. My guess is, that this conversation had to fail at some point because you can't compare two systems you know nothing about except the name and some more or less relevant values scattered to the public somehow. I usually carry an ECM pod but I barely use it, as the great capability of jamming a particular source with directional antennas is not modeled. Giving away my position to enemy fighters does not seem very smart. I do use it when I'm out of ordnance and switch over to gunruns in the hope of decreasing the chance to hit of those damn shilkas still left down there. I'd be interested in some knowledge what this actually does to a Shilka. Much talk about SAMs can be found on the forums, but does it decrease the lock range of a Shilka as it does with the SAMs? Is it's firing solution degraded?
  11. Ok, did you study anything and/or read any research papers regardless of the topic? You always sound like you know what you are talking about in your angry "you are all wrong" attitude, but I highly doubt it ;-)
  12. And your way of arguing (I know what I "know" and therefor you must be wrong) is better? You provided a source (credible or not) with very little information on a tiny part of the subject we are talking about. GGTharos paid for research papers he doesn't have the right to publish himself, so I guess you are quite even there, apart from GGTharos at last seems to have an Idea what he's talking about. And as I, and presumably you, don't know the real capabilities of the AN/ALQ-184 it is a pretty wild guess to say "the Pods of the A10 aren't as sophisticated as the ones of the (insanely old) SR-71
  13. Would you mind to share your source of information? I know the Blackbird was constantly upgraded and therefore propably quite well equipped despite it's age, but rendering a SA-2 useless is not that big of a deal by today's means. And the AN/ALQ-184 is far away from being a Cellphone disrupting some signals a little
  14. They are quite powerfull, especially BMP2's with 20mm autocannons... However there is no problem: simply go into a quite steep dive, shoot a burst of a second on your target at about 2nm and the bugger is toast, you are not. Getting it on with tanks is not that easy as their armour is thicker, you need to get quite close (1-1.5nm) and shoot a long burst of about 2s. This usually works and the fact that the tanks have 12.7mm guns makes it a bit more bareable to get that close.
  15. I'd like to take the chance and propagate my video on countermeasures ^^
  16. If I am correct, you dont need zero's for MGRS. You only need to have the Grid and (do less than 6 work aswell? never tried) 6-10 numeric coordinates.
  17. Only thing that comes to my mind: are you perhaps editing a markpoint? AFAIK you can't change MP coordinates. But this would happen regardless of MGRS / L/L
  18. I think it is really interesting you are putting yourself through this. I can understand you wait for the Stick you want, although I'd say anything is better than no stick. I'd really like to see a track or a video of you performing a proper gunrun with just the keyboard! Exactly my thought. Great stick, and I can kind off understand why they didn't bother to build a 2stage-trigger, you barely really need it. Apart from that, I can't imagine living without it in respect of flying the A10. Could be interesting for WW2 fighters aswell: stage 1 - MG; stage 2 - cannons
  19. Seriously... NO You can't do anything precise with a digital control. If you want to prove me wrong (no game physics) please do. I'd really like to see you pulling of a gunrun without a joystick 0.o If you are looking for a cheap alternative I can recommend the X52 from saitek. You can get them for ~70€ on eBay if you are lucky. They are quite accurate and offer a very good HOTAS control. It is not that well craftet, but the price has to come from something
  20. Well, most people would not consider DCS a game, it's a simulation. Many things you mentioned are brevity words used be the airforce. You don't have to worry much about the AWACS, it will give you vectors to enemy aircraft. A Bandit is an enemy Aircraft and a Bogey Dope will give you BRaA information on them - bearing range and altitude. In terms of target spotting: Try to learn how to use the TGP effectively: use BHOT/WHOT and adjust gain and lvl settings to have a good picture. Don't get closer than 20nm, else the TGPs viewangle gets to narrow. In order to contact the JTAC use the FM channel (LShift + -(NUM)) should be the key. Make sure to have the correct frequency.
  21. I have a similar setup, except I also export the CDU, CMSC, and Clock. When flying high-g turns the center of the blackout-effect is not the center of my main view display but the center of my full screen setup... Is there a way to straighten this out? Another Issue in MP are the Slots: as soon as I scroll through the available slots of a coalition the Name-entry of occupied slots disappears for this coalition. Any Ideas? Thanks, Mav
  22. Shouldn't you be able to perform a windmill-restart? You are flying so the engine is already turning... I've never tried it myself though
  23. Saying the A10C is simple when coming from FC-level aircraft is something you should not do, but you'll se that yourself. The stick is a quite good choice, I fly with it myself. Don't get yourself fooled by the pro version! The only real difference is the color... If you intend to create own profiles, which I would recommend, you will find that it costs a huge amount of time to get the keys together you need and bind them on the stick in a manner that serves you well. Apart from the hardware needs, you will learn the basic things with the A10C tutorials provided by the game. I started with these and they cover the needed things to get the bird in the air. For further information on certain topics you can always try to search on youtube, there are some good tutorials out there. I'll just use this opportunity to advertise my chanel ^^ https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5MIKnLTvpc_mHrTx2h6sug Only two tutorials til now, but as soon as I find some spare time a tutorial about hotas control and data management will follow, aswell as a series of weapon employment.
  24. I wanna see the A-10C "heavy" SAM evasion challenge
  25. thrawn did you mean freetrack? I thought facetrackNoIR's purpose is to be used without any additional headgear? Freetrack is in theory the same as trackIR: You build a Cap or a Clip with (ideally) 3 LED's and set up a camera (modified webcam or IRcam) to recognize those IR LED's. The image of the cam is then processed by the free (obvious? ^^) freetrack software. Difference to TrackIR: +price -needed cpu-power -modification of the webcam not easy depending on the model -configuration could be a bit tricky But the price impact is kind off huge: you can do it for about 25-40€ instead of up to 200€ (if you buy brand new + active clip)
