UTM and MGRS Coordinates Explained - NOT
Maverick-X replied to Dudester22's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
This is not related to the JTAC. You have 3 kinds of possible steerpoints: -Flightplan -Mark -Mission Every Navpoint in your database (except markpoints?) are a Missionpoint. If you enter a Missionpoint into a (active) Flightplan, it is a Flightplan Navpoint. So basically all Waypoints entered by the mission designer are available under Flightplan, all waypoints, including the ones created by you are available under mission. If you add one of your created points to the flightplan it is available there aswell. You can also add Markpoints to a flightplan. -
S is nosewheel steering range? Wont help much with braking... But as far as I see it, the brakes are fine. You cant expect to taxi with a high speed and then decelerate to 0 in an instant. Usual taxi speed would be under 20kts. If you hit the brakes on that speed you stop!

If you talk about multiple moving targets in the same area, like a convoy, you can slew the maverick from target to target without using the TGP. This is less precise, but if you know the number of the vehicles of the column you want to attack it is a suitable method. If you want to track multiple moving targets in different locations, I don't know of a way. You could mark the location and note the direction the unit is heading...

Steam games are usually stored in ...\Steam\SteamApps\Common The "Aircraft"/"Aircrafts" thing came with the last patch if I'm correct. New structure, what ever that is for

The Su-25T is the one that is available for everyone for free. It has the Shkval optical sensor, a HUD and is able to employ SEAD-Weaponry. The Su25 that is available as standalone or part of the FC3 package is the basic Su25 oneseater (25T is a twoseater conversion), therefor it has a better flight behaviour. It does not feature a HUD, although there is a holographic display for targeting purposes. Really fun to fly aircraft! But it is quite hard to employ it against good air defense systems as your only targeting help available are your eyes.

Gun pipper offset controls and roll-out correction
Maverick-X replied to WildBillKelsoe's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I don't know if I get you correctly, but the "ladder shifting" represents a slip angle, you would correct this with rudder input if you want. But I don't really get the problem with this, as the CCIP Pipper is wind corrected. I never used the option to correct pipper position, but my wild guess includes that you ruin your aim with it? Activating PAC (PAC-1 is actually first trigger stage!) seems to alter control surface position in order to be able to hold the gun on target. I'd guess this is a fixed position and therefor pitch change would vary with speed, but as lift increases with increased airspeed, the effect is only a little stronger than with PAC deactivated. If I'm going to use PAC, I'd usually just keep my current trim, as I like to be nose heavy before entering a dive. -
Isn't there already a scaling? If you view something in the pursuit-cam (or what it is called - default F5) it appears a lot bigger than from cockpit view

I usually use a steep angle and quite low distance for tanks. About -60° or more and fire at a distance of a mile. Against those deadly BMP2's and similar I prefer a medium angle (40-60°) and distance of about 2nm. If you get closer you easily get your gun damaged and then the fun is over. Works well for everything that isn't armored well: Low altitude airdefence can be engaged from high altitude with dive angles around 80° and firing from about 3nm quite savely. Iglas, shilkas, strelas... this distance requires quite a burst (~2-3s) even at a very steep angle, but hey... safety first ^^ If the target is single you can go closer, for example if there is one shilka left and I'm already low, I'd roll in on target at about 2-3nm. If I can align quickly I fire a burst and immideatly break away. If I can't align fast enough I wave off right away. The shilka will usually miss while turning hard enough, bit risky though

Either you are doing something wrong in the mustang, or I in the Dora. From my point of view landing (and takeoff) are super easy in the Mustang, and... challenging is a bit much... lets say you have to be concentrated to land the dora ^^
-
If you have a running aircraft and (re)arm, all changed stores will be red. Afaik this is normal and (re)loading the DSMS page is the correct procedure
-
The target sent is usually a bit off of the coordinates intended. If there is a bigger error, flagrums explanation or a bug seem to be the best possibilities. I did not notice this behaviour, so I'd guess there is no bug in general. Does broadcasting the SPI work for you? If everything else fails you could manually input the coordinates of the target.

I indeed forgot the standby Attitude Indicator... I mentioned takeoff trim at the end of the video, as it is not necessary on a first startup. It is ofc a good habit, but even if you forget it you should be able to takeoff just fine unless you don't pay attention at all. The problem with DSMS not loading correctly is that you load everything before rearming is done. You can do this, but then you have to reload the DSMS, just like when getting back down and rearm: hold the button of the STAT page for example and select LOAD and replace the STAT page with the LOAD page. Then select LOAD DSMS and you are good to go. Never had an issue with the CDU though... What exactly does not work as intended?

The Auto-turnToTarget is only supposed to set your nose to the target. The reticle of your Vikhr's is the missiles point it faces to. If you shoot in short burst mode, only one missile will be fired, alternating the wing after each shot. So the first missile fired from the left pod will have the reticule slightly to the left, while the next will have it slightly to the right. As the system is not ment to fire the weapon for you, you'll have to steer the last 2° yourself. If you set the burst mode to med. or long the reticule will be set in the middle, because both pods will fire to get two missiles on the target at once. I guess in this case the aiming reticule could already be on target only due to autoTurn

I don't see where I miss that. This is about exactly what I do, did you actually watch it? And the ground alignment takes way longer than just starting both engines and then taxiing to takeoff
-
Given you have that time. If I manage to get an hour of free time to fly I'm happy and I definatly won't spend 1/4 or 1/3 of that time on the ground! On the other hand I prefer aircraft in MP to be cold and dark. I do like the configuration hot on ramp, but what I certainly dislike is a full fuel tank with the target area 20-50nm away... Unnecessary weight

DCS: A-10C Warthog vs A-10A for DCS World
Maverick-X replied to bigbirddk's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
but as you said: flaming cliffs 2... the A10-A you can buy and is subject in this topic is part of FC3, which does not work standalone as far as i know. But why don't we stick to the topic... It does not matter if there is a possibility of standalone use. You can fly singleplayer with DCS-World aswell as Multiplayer. No need to be concerned. If you are looking to get a real simulator (and not a game) get the A-10C -
DCS: A-10C Warthog vs A-10A for DCS World
Maverick-X replied to bigbirddk's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
The A-10A and A-10C are two completely different, independed modules. It depends on the mission designer which aircraft are playable in a mission. The A-10C is a spread widely. But you have to know that the C comes with a thick manual and multiple hours to get into! Learning the A is somewhat difficult as well, as you have to get into all the key combos you need to do certain things. The C has a clickable cockpit, so you don't have to remember that many keys, but the systems are far more complex! I'd still recommend getting the A-10C! (given you are willing to put in some hours to get into!) My alltime favorite -
I'm not sure on the commands regarding radar functionality, so I won't answer these. The EOS is a high powered IR sensor that lets you passively detect aircraft. When you activate it in BVR mode, you will get a HUD display similar to the radar functionality. You won't have IFF functions though! It works on hughe distanced if the enemy is afterburning, ofc works best when facing 6 o'clock of the bogey. So it basically gives you the capability of sneaking up to someone and firing IR-seeking missiles without him knowing until he is hit.

How hard a time will I have with these planes?
Maverick-X replied to kontiuka's topic in DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora
I always avoided the purchase of rudder pedals as for flying helo's or modern day jets it was not necessary. You can fly the mustang quite easily without rudders aswell, although air2ground will be a pain in the a** when you try to cancel out sideslip. As I really liked the warbirds and am more into dogfights than BVR I decided to finally buy pedals, as the old birds long for it and it would be at least nice to have for more modern aircraft. And I can say: best decision ever! The Dora is quite uneasy to handle on takeoff and landing when compared with the mustang, as it does not have a steerable tailwheel, so finetuned rudder input is a must -
HELP re: Options / Hotas Profiles (.lau) files
Maverick-X replied to SnowTiger's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I had a similar issue, as the *lua's for profiles have been altered. they are now diff.lua files if I'm correct. So I had trouble importing my old profiles after they had been reset. In my case, most of my Profiles are kept in the saitek SST software as my stick is configured in external software. Some parts however are subject to DCS keybindings, as I use functions on the Stick which don't have a key assigned by default. And I need a button press in order to program it in the SST. Apart from that, if I recall correctly I had this kind of issue when something has been added or changed in terms of keybindings, e.g. adding commands for handling external loads in the huey. I'm not sure if my profile was reset, but importing my profiles would lead to not having the new commands, as they are not listed in the export file... -
Stumbled upon this topic and thought this might be interesting for people who dislike the startup procedure. In MP you usually start cold and dark, so I hope this comes in handy for you. I also recommend the countermeasure tutorial, if you are interested in preprogram your own CMS-Profiles for Chaff and Flares without setting them up every time you start the A10. I usually use this procedure as I am aswell annoyed by the quite long waiting time for INS alignment. If you are in a multiplayer mission together with FC level aircraft they are already half way to the target when you manage to take off...

In the video the rockets are fired in pairs. So they cancle each others recoil out, if it exists...

Knew it, can't get the Su-25 to stop on a short runway without them. The brakes are.... well you have the chute ^^
