  1. water line! Hopefully the new carrier will have a realistic white water line from the back where the ships screws cut the water as oppose to the very unrealistic small boat waves with no white from screws in the current CVN 74 :noexpression:
  2. On my Carrier, Stennis, I seem to have some simple confusion regarding a simple geometry perhaps? I can set up my systems for case I or case III recoveries. Sitting on the deck I set my CRS CSEL to 355 degrees within the UFC for the Carrier's 500ft strip. But I wanted to see what would happen if I launched and from mid air in the Marshall and entered this. I did so and entered 355 and it took my CRS line to the moon. So I was able to still touch the deck (case I.), and after I hit deck. I then moved it to the 300 front straight off my nose manually trick. Then I observed that it was reading 266 degrees in the HSI's lower right. So I tried it again in midair and just entered 266 and it basically gave me a decent CRS line recovery angle. Is there more on the use of this useful function? I tried looking it up in Chuck's reading and Early access. I can't seem to find much on this. NATOPS ?... I'm still trying to figure out how to get from the table of contents to a given topic:doh: Why can't they just simply list NATOPS by page?:music_whistling: Alright .. any help or advice on using this function where ever I m in the sky to attempt to land on the mother ship would be helpful as I am "Ignant" :megalol: Thanx Case III's are getting fun! I can't wait for the USS Roosevelt CVN-71:thumbup: DragonFlySlayer Marc
  3. Ok.. I did one time look at the different assigned flight task's like CAP and CAS... etc.. and I didn't see much at all. But that was some time back. I just looked now and discovered more. Like a dumb dumb, I also discovered how I could right click on any individual weapon station and sub-menu's would pop up affording many options! Thanx! I then noticed I could remove any weapon and also "remove Pylon" ? I will check again, but if this is removing weapon's station, we could also remove all of them for a more realistic Blue Angel's skin. Have any tips for tanker placement , I was thinking about 5000 ft? Any advice for way point structure to keep a pattern with the ship's movement, how they do it in the real world? Thanks man, you've been helpful! DSF-Marc
  4. I'm an F18 guy myself. But I think when it's all said and done I will buy the F14 cause it was done so well. Seems like a person who dig's flight sim, fighter jets would surely have to afford that one in the virtual hanger! Does anyone know how complete the F14 is compared to the 18? When I create a mission I only have two rows of AA weapons and some fuel pods and that's all I can really find. I also ordered that F16. But what I really sort of crave, is that Carrier Module they working on! And improved air base communications! Working hangers, ready room, Naval radio LSO activity! That will be a blast.
  5. I create a mission. I noticed that when I look at the weapon's load out options, I only have two rows of AA weapons with fuel pods. I really cannot find anything else. Where's the FLIR after an approximate year and a half? Is there more here and I am doing something wrong? I just don't see much and it makes me wonder a bit.:noexpression: Sure am looking forward to that Carrier Module they are making! That will be cool, but it would be nice to have a load of weapons and those UFC systems options that are incomplete. Anyone else know anything? Marc DFS
  6. Yeah... I changed a minor thing within the .lua file and then couldn't even load DCS Beta! So then I put it back and still couldn't open DCS Beta. I'm thinking by doing so I must have changed the date on it for a modification? So then the check in the start up I'm thinking. caught a date and verified it a no go? So I uninstalled it all , cleared my registry and killed a few left over folder and reinstalled Beta. Then it loaded fine. My mission I created was still there and my HOTAS still stayed the same without change. Thanks for the heads up on mission crashes trying to do it ourselves.
  7. Where can I locate the quick start carrier file so I can try and copy it to my mission editor "My Missions" folder so I can see if I can open it up and use it?
  8. Are you able to place static objects on your carrier? I cannot for the life of me figure why it will not work for me. The SAT button does nothing in OpenBeta and DCS world 2.0. If I try to add a static object, the carrier flips back to that micro screen in the mission editor. I know your problem here is a bit different, but I was wondering if you could cue me in a what I might be missing in order to place a static object. I saw that one video where this guy states to go in your .lua file and remove the +++ , but mine were already removed. All I want to do is place some objects on the Stennis... "?" Any ideas?
  9. FA18 C Lot 20 Is it possible for us to have training missions implemented within DCS world so we can fly? I really like the Case III Carrier video run you show. I wish we could have that to practice. I tried to create my own sort of Carrier op's mission and I noticed that when I attempt to select weapons AG, I have nothing available. "?" And in AA only two rows of limited weapons. Am I doing something wrong or is our Hornet really this incomplete. Thanks Marc:thumbup:
  10. Yeah... I would like to see some real reviews ranging from ability to program in Direct X and how it does overall. It's impressive on sight. I pre-ordered my TM FA18 Stick. My Warthog throttle cover's the base just fine. So for $700.00 approximate dollars I want to see some videos from some real Hornet Jockeys. I'm still wondering if TM's gonna make a FA18 Throttle system? It would take long time as they did with the stick cause they were dancing with Boeing.
  11. I'm usually a dollar short and a day late, but here it goes... I just now saw this link on Thrustmaster website that the FA18 inter changeable Hornet stick will be released July 25th! "?" https://shop.thrustmaster.com/en_gb/new-products/f-a-18c-hornettm-hotas-add-on-grip.html
  12. Hi Matt: Marc here... I am looking at upgrading my PC by replacing some solid state hard drives with larger ones! Much larger! And I want to run with this Nvidia RTX 2080 TI I also want to get into a VR head set. This is a new thing to me, so if anyone else here has suggestions for head sets lay it on me. But I wanted to ask you about this DSLR Oculus Rift S system your talking about here? Is this what you guys are talking about? I looked it up after you mentioned it and I'm looking at it, but VR is a new thing to me. So can you guys recommend a decent top end Flight sim VR head set? Thanx DSF Marc
  13. Interesting... I was also looking at this video on Youtube. It shows the Pilot coming around and landing on the carrier. As he is about a mil and a half away you can see he's moving his throttle back n forth.... After looking real closely, I too can see he has a red below the ball a little hot then he quickly gets the orange ball in the center to light up and he he is able to keep it there. I wonder if DCS will ever make a F/A18-E? But even if they did, there sure wouldn't be a 79 radar I am thinking so what would be the point, unless there's an E-lot that has information legally available.
  14. I just signed up! Thanks , I will soon try and figure out where your at and see what's happening.
  15. Thanks to all for the information and insight. I do have that NAVTOP FA18 C information manual. All the stuff we currently exposed to from Chucks to Early access guide. That FA18 E pilot last night drew me a map of the Marshall stack and he told me something regarding altitudes and air speeds. So it does really get my attention when he tells me something as I compared it to the info we do have. Two days ago this guy said he was using full after burner and doing a full vertical Loop. This is actually the first real Hornet Pilot I've been able to talk with and ask questions regarding any of my DCS experiences. Thanks again for the input and advice regarding throttles and thoughts at all. I will keep working with it. This Pilot is my niece's boyfriend. He's invited myself and other family members to the Base flight sim! He said to me he believed I could fly it so he wants to test me on a carrier landing so I would really like to do it right and surprise myself! I asked him about the TDS and the radar and he said it was classified and I wouldn't be able to lock anything or activate the tac pages. I asked him what version of radar do those current FA18 E's have , and he said ANAGP79-classified. No can touchy!!
  16. I looked first for a discussion on this prior to this and I couldn't find it so I wanted to share what I was doing. Flying the Marshall's pattern , approaching to make my pass and enter the Marshall's. approximately 600 to 1000 ft... about 200 knots. I've set up the instruments and everything to have my systems page up , my HIS , way point set up and I use that one switch to activate that line to make about 3 degrees left aspect from the ship's path, I know my terminology is a tad weak.. please forgive me,...:book: So, once I'm descending to approximately 450 and then banking around to 350 ft altitude down wind, about 1.5 WP in my HUD, landing gear was just lowered prior , flaps full,... I have this problem with my Warthog maintaining stable throttle speed! I have to find a fixed position almost so I do not have to rev it up or back it off, I need to make things more subtle! I'm just asking for advice on this concept on how do many of you work the gear we have being our throttle for stable air speed? I am discovering if I just maintain proper altitude and throttle speed the ILS will line perfectly all by itself! Mainly throttle speed and altitude and angle of attack seems to follow and come together:pilotfly: Since many of us use Warthog, do we find that tension set up on the throttle should be stiff or do some of you guys who work it with some advanced skill, might say I need to learn to work the throttle back and forth, I guess weather , wind and weight of fuel will play a roll too of course... I didn't know too that in the real world, once the pilot informs the Carrier his fuel weight "state 6.5" or what ever the weight is, that the deck crew adjusts the tension in the arresting cables to the actual weight of the incoming flight!:book: I was so fortunate last night to eat dinner with a friend who actually is learning to fly FA18 E's here in Lemoore Naval Air station. He drew it out for me at the table on a plate. It concurs with our laid out information we already have, but he was very interesting. He said that if you can work that ILS and meatball and land consistently, everything else almost doesn't matter. Your a NAVAL Aviator is what he said. My goal is to work the pattern correctly strictly by my instruments treating a case I as if it was a II or a III. Once I reach that distance where the ILS kicks in, I must maintain proper altitude and air speed and the needles all line up by themselves! This doesn's happen either if your not set up about 350 to 400 ft, But ...But...but... How do you guys maintain your air speed? Might seem like a dumb question but how do you work your throttle literally and or what throttle's do you employ? I don't mean to beat a dead horse, but honestly, this is a blast!!:book:
  17. Hey!... Getting stuck with a Wag's video? I'll take a wag's video anytime! :pilotfly: WDCS! ;) Man... when I remember the Flanker 2.0, LOMAC, back when the FA18 dream was a classified gig and ED couldn't gather information at the time that year to start making it, is what they told me one year, to Flaming Cliffs 1,2 n 3....then DCS was born.... "DCS" Now look at how far we've come since programs like Janes FA18E, US NAVY Fighters, Graphsim Hornet, when we look at what we have today, we have a lot to be thankful for. Honestly, it's really a brain overload for a person of my classification. Everything that is presented... So...... Thanx!! It's a good thing! :smilewink:
  18. Throttle's n Sticks I think TM should manufacture sticks so one could easily unscrew his stick and switch out for a different jet! We have the F16 stick even though it's strictly a Warthog throttle system. They could make the Hornet stick and all we have to do is switch it out. They could make a throttle base with switchable twin or single engine, with all the button configurations so weather we're flying our F18 or F16, TM could even make a couple of Russian sticks too to switch out for the SU or MIG. They should make most of all the sticks or at least three or 4 major sticks, at least the stick, to switch out. This way everyone would have a system for each his or her own, could switch out sticks for a different jet for a more dialed in HOTAS. HOTAS is becoming more important with the more advanced modules being presented here by DCS. AA+ It would be good for us, and if those who don't want to can just sit content with the Warthog, or to have a newly created throttle base system and a few available HOTAS options for jet model sticks would be cool. Considering how DCS has grown on the whole globe. Lets face it, the other brands are pretty cheesy, light plastic stuff that is ...what ever it is. Even TM has put out some throttle stick systems that are plastic kiddie junk for what we're doing here in DCS world. TM needs a Universal throttle base mount with some cool switches where the throttle handle sliders can be switched out for different HOTAS, and different stick models that can be switched out. I can't believe someone at TM has never presented this to it's department heads? Now in the year 2019, I think it would be wise on TM's side of the fence considering elements such as BMS 4.34, DCS's growth.... It's simply a win win situation for those who play serious with their sim flight here. To really take full advantage of all the work that goes into some of these modules here form DCS, the HOTAS to have down to the T, really helps with learning a great deal for game play along with weapons etc.....:joystick: Waggs has a good handle on it as I think having that stick is very helpful. He uses it for a reason. But when you think about it, notice after reading early access and Chuck's Hornet guide, it would be proper to have a stick and throttle switch configuration that had the actual button since the module does. :music_whistling:
  19. That's a good answer. Best case scenario! Thanx!! Mucho Grass:thumbup: :pilotfly:
  20. Pre Order I'm asking about "Pre Order" date advertised as for Today 05-22-19, in the respects of hoping that ED didn't run into trouble to cause a different kind of delay, as in permanent. Usually my emails from ED are pretty tight, and when they state that a date is set for Pre order, usually they will want your monies and want to sell a product I'm thinking as that has been my past experiences for many years. It usually happens like clock work, but this is too quiet so it makes me wonder. When they put the Hornet out for Pre order, or any of those other modules, they didn't "dilly dally did they? F16-C Block 50 D. "D" for "Dilly Dally":megalol: "Where's the Beef"??!!:(
  21. Currently I have the Chuck's Strategy guide, and of course the early access pdf as well that is in our folder. For years I have had "How to live and die in the virtual sky" But as far as the Hornet goes , is there any recommended reading anyone here might know of that is exclusively on the FA18 C? Besides those actual NAVY releases... On Lulu I found some cool FA18 Pilot manuals but they seem to cover the FA18 E, which might also suffice. But the thing is, I was wondering if there is anything we can obtain that will relate to the functions of the sim that might not be covered in what we are already issued upon purchase. Maybe nothing is needed? Or are there any books any of you have that you recommend that would further familiarize us with the potential work in progress being our FA18? Those Lulu FA18 books come in two separate books. Part 1 and Part 2. They are supposed to be everything you would want to know about an FA18, but I wonder how much of it would be really related to our sim Lot 20. I guess it couldn't hurt. I'm just searching cause I like to do just that. I was thinking or wondering if anyone here has any other sources.:joystick: Can't hurt to ask the experts here I say:smartass: Respectfully "DragonFlySlayer" Marc
  22. Alright.... Thanx anyway. I appreciate you confirming that little thought though.... :drink: "I'll just have a cold one without that pilot then"
  23. Ladder From Cockpit? I was reading through some of the material here regarding our FA18-C, and I was looking for a command that would prompt a ladder and then the Pilot could climb down and out? Is there any such feature? Just wondering......:music_whistling: Maybe then the Pilot could climb out and we could go drink a cold one at the base club.
