  1. I just learned about this 'change' the hard way. I just flew a long campaign mission, coming into land, everything locks up and nosed down into the dirt. I'm going to fly that whole mission again, but will practice landing first.
  2. I can't tell the difference between the engine and my tinnitus they both sound just as annoying.
  3. Ignore me, all my fault. I've been playing Assetto Corsa a lot lately and had my G27 was still plugged in and DCS was assigning the wheel and pedals to the axes. Oops.
  4. [edit - My fault I still had my G27 racing wheel and pedals plugged in and DCS auto assigned them axes that were conflicting] Yay now we have a new campaign I got all excited, but I can't trim the MiG anymore. Something has changed? Trim buttons on joystick do nothing anymore. I flicked the trim switch on the right side of the cockpit back and forth and it then seems to come a live for a bit, but just appears to push the stick back and forth and doesn't work right. Is it only me? I'm on DCS 2.7.7.14727 Open Beta
  5. Hi just flew mission 2. I haven't flown the hornet in a month or two so a bit rusty but I couldn't get the carrier on tacan or on comms. Briefing said 73 X-ray for Tacan and comms on channel 1. I have track it's 40 MB so can't attach, let me know if you need it.
  6. I bought this module a few years ago but prefered IL2 back then. Been playing it again the last few days. My fool proof takeoff is, tail wheel locked, prop pitch to 11:45, flaps to 20 hold stick right back and slowly accelerate, with a bit of right toe brake. When the speedometer starts to register and climb past 100km/h stop holding the stick back and start to slowly push the nose forward, a bit of right rudder then hold and you'll start to climb automatically. Put prop into auto retract gears and flaps.
  7. I've been an admirer of the F-16 all my life but I fly the Hornet, and I wish it wasn't so .... First of all Carrier Ops, I thought the F-14 would satisfy that, but I'm an offline player and find Jester just doesn't do the job for me. Second VR, I find the tiny MFDs in the F-16 too small and too few. The F/A-18 systems just make a lot of sense and are very intuitive. Situational awareness is so much better. The F-16 has a few ways of doing things better too, but the Hornet wins here. The F/A-18 is pretty much complete. But I find the cockpit visually unappealing and clunky ... the leading edge extensions block the view below. The air frame isn't the prettiest either. The speed she loses is hard to claw back. And yet of all the modules I own this is my go to. If Jester ever gets really good, and the F-16 is closer to feature complete then I might switch over.
  8. I use the 5 way switch as the ECM switch on the Hornet which is also 5 way and matches nicely. I don't use it as a mode switch on any aircraft, I think that would be too many buttons for me that way. On the MiG-21 it is a limited version of the stores selection.
  9. Haha really? I had a feeling it was something like this because I've only really flown short quick missions with the Mig due to a dearth of quality campaigns and missions. Funny I Googled about but found nothing. The gun sight and IFF threw me off though, didn't expect that to be pitot related and that alt uses the same pitot tube, thought they used static ports... thanks guys.
  10. Hi, I just started recently flying the "Over the Hump Campaign" On my third mission on the way to the AO I had my gun sight suddenly fail, my altimeter go to zero, my airspeed go to zero, IFF on the radar no longer working and maybe some other failures too. I couldn't figure out if I somehow got damaged by something, experienced a bug or made a mistake somewhere. I cycled switches but could not get anything back online. This is before meeting any enemy aircraft. Sorry forgot to save the track.
  11. Same I was doing the Desert Convoy quick mission in Persian Gulf. Was armed with RockEyes switched to guns and the shots were way off above the pipper. Reran the mission again and it was fine on the next try. So appears to be intermittent.
  12. I'm currently reading Sea Harrier over the Falklands and really keen on flying the SHAR on this map. There seems to be so little information on the FRS.1 in the public domain on the web I can't even find a cockpit diagram from that era. I'm wondering how Razbam are getting their data for this? Especially for the Blue Fox radar and the navigation system.
  13. I only got my throttle the other day but found going from a CH pro throttle to this I was getting lost in VR. So added some mods to the buttons to find my way around 'blindly'. Fuzzy velcro (B6) button is Master Caution reset Hooked velcro (B5) is A/G mode, above it (B2) is A/A mode T7 with rubber grommet is Master Arm T6 with Spring is Fuel Probe T5 bare vanilla is flaps T4 I repurposed a Saitek quadrant part, cut a slot and taped it on for landing gear. Was going to 3d print something but this was quicker. One of the main reasons I purchased the throttle, don't laugh, is E1 and E2 to control RWR and WPN volume in quick missions. I can't stand having to look down and dial them each time using the mouse as they are so loud in the F/A-18 that the wife get's the proverbials. Also obviously the detents, dual throttle axes and extra buttons were also part of the decision.
  14. ah never mind I figured it out, if you double click on the axis in the axis table you can configure axis to buttons there too.
  15. How do you setup the hook with the flaps axis on the F/A-18? Is it using Axis to button in the Virpil Control software? I've already used up the four there for the engine idle. Can you add more somehow?
  16. oh never mind I thought I was replying to this thread cross post.
  17. I was having this exact problem in Raven One mission 13. Another thing I've noticed, not sure if it's mentioned here is that the narrow/wide and FLIR/CCD buttons don't work on the TPOD with the HOTAS when MAV is selected but TGP is SOI not sure if this is a new bug or has been reported. Ah ok found its' been reported here:
  18. Yep same here, I find it odd that Knight is calling out a picture but we don't see anything on the D/L
  19. I've been watching a few LSO youtube videos and something I don't understand is why the primary LSO doesn't use any tools or references other than his eyes to gauge the glideslope? The backup LSO stands behind the PLAT but they are just the backup. Why does the primary use just his naked eyes if the PLAT Camera gives you the approaching aircraft position without any error? Surely calls based on what you see on PLAT are going to be more reliable and superior to a human judging distance, approach angle, altitude etc? Even if there is a reason why PLAT isn't preferred surely a mix of both where he glances down briefly would also be better?
  20. The manual seems to indicate that you should be able switch to TWS radar mode using the TDC. Just like you can change the range values and the azimuth sweep. Is this implementation missing, is the manual wrong, or am I doing something wrong? The manual shows 9 different areas, see image attached but only 3 work for me.
  21. Actually guys you can enter the coordinates in the UFC with either decimal minutes or minutes + seconds. If you go to the A/C tab in the HSI sub menu you can set the entry type there. No need to do calculations or use apps to do it. Check the DATA Option Sublevel in the official manual page 126 as of time of writing.
  22. Are you saying they are keeping it there the entire flight? Or just for take off? In Hornet catapult launches that is the correct procedure the pilot hangs on to the towel racks so that he doesn't touch the stick. See at 0:33 below
  23. I'd just like to point out imagine doing this in DCS? You'd tell the boom operator to shut up while you concentrate. VR and a Virpil or equivalent joystick and it's suddenly a lot easier but not that you'd do interviews, and we don't even have the real life dangers to worry about!
  24. possibly this? Or does it happen every time in Syria? The issue below has happened to me a couple of times in A/G and A/A modes where the pipper is not the impact point. https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=211945&page=8
  25. I flew it last night against the F-4's in the quick missions, it's an absolute beast now, if only I could figure out how to consistently pull lead with that cannon :-D I don't think I overpulled AOA even once. Really easy to keep energy up, I think people in MP will get a shock. Not sure if it's realistic but the 21 must have had something going for it in real life and before I found it didn't. Previously in the quick missions against the F-4 I'd quickly have to prepare the cockpit in a mad rush and keep the F-4 in sight and clear of my 6 O'clock. Now you can take your time arming up and kill the phantoms when you are good and ready.
