  1. Is the fan blowing on the tray or did you cut the tray to expose the back of the motherboard? I have a low speed/high cfm fan. What are your loaded temps with the fan on/off? John
  2. Do you have some screenshots of you BIOS settings? I'm hitting a thermal wall at 4.9ghz. The h50 and h100 radiators cool better than just the h100 by itself but coolant flow is too low. I went ahead and sprung for a swiftech pump/block combo and reservoir to control the temps and would like to see how you got to 5+ ghz Thanks. John
  3. Very nice. looks like stainless. Is there a significant difference in having a longer stick? No sophmoric joke intended. John
  4. I failed to save the files that remove the viewports from the cockpit when displayed on my Helios monitor. I cant find them here anywhere. Can someone post them or direct me to them? PeterP's files aren't hosted on the DCS site anymore. Thanks, John
  5. It came in Thursday and I've had the weekend to play with it. will boot and run at 5Ghz but get some errors in prime95 so I backed it down to 4.9 till I gain some understanding of all the new and improved BIOS settings. Then I'll give it another go. I hacked my H50 and H100 into a single loop. the 240mm radiators in the front of my Antec 900 case and the H50 is in the back. Looks cool and the thermal margin never goes below 5C during prime95. John
  6. As most of you know Helios no longer displays the radios properly. Gadrock has been MIA for some time so I don't konw when/if it's going to be fixed. Someone said that the icontrol radios are fixed but my old ipad isn't supported with the update (frickin Apple). I have switches in my panels but need something to display the frequecies with until I get some segmented LCD's installed. Thanks, John
  7. Thanks. that will actually make it easier. I just cut a set without the raster pass. I'm going to sandwich a layer of cellophane wrap between the top and middle plates before painting to keep from getting any paint on the bottom layer as I'm just using LED strips to backlight the whole console. It's starting to come together...
  8. I'm about to paint my panel edges but wanted to know if I should paint the inside of the switch holes too. Or should I leave them glow. I'm just lasering a set of cheap thin top plates to just screw on but need to know if I should leave or delete the switch holes.
  9. You rock Hempstead! just orded the cable and fitting combo.
  10. Did a search of the individual componts sold listings on Ebay. the total low end average came in at $320. I'll let the whole thing go for $250 plus shipping. continental US only. My new stuff will be hear by Friday and I will be disassembling the rig next weekend. I'm going to list everything on Ebay then if there are no takers here.
  11. I would like to sell this as a bundle. accepting offers. Asus a4m79xtd-evo motherboard AMD 1090t CPU Corsair H50 water cooler HIS 6970 with a Artic Cooling Xtreme plus (3 fan) cooler installed by me. The cpu is running @ 3.888Ghz/1.5v. Never gets above 45C. I run the video card fans at 100% because they are fairly quiet and I like to keep it running cool. I use the AMD overdrive and just crank everything up to the max. Never locks up nor artifacts. The motherboard is a good solid ASUS MB with LOTS of configurable options in the BIOS. I've built my own machines since the mid 80's and have always set them up for speed and stability which is why I want to sell it as a bundle. I have an air compressor and blow the machine out about once a month. Non smoking environment. I will take some screenshots of the configuration later today.
  12. I can't help myself. I overclocked my 386 by 50Mhz when i installed the math co-processor and haven't stopped since.
  13. I'm picking up the Asus Sabertooth 990fx along with the processor. Both on sale at Newegg. They're only $300 for the pair. The r9 290x cost $280. I should be able to get something for my current rig to help offset the cost. I think I can probably get a few hundred bucks fo the MB, CPU, cooler, and 6970.
  14. Looking to change out my 1090t. Currently running it at 3.9Ghz with a H50 watercooler. I have a H100 cooler that I purchased awhile back but didn't feel like modding my case to install it. Now thinking about getting the 8350 as it is on sale for $150 but want to know what you guys are clocking it at with water cooling. I don't want the CPU to bottle neck my r9 290 that is on the way. BTW, yes I am an AMD fanboy so I won't be going the Intel/Nvidia route. Thanks, John
  15. you would want to use a plasma cutter for metal.
  16. DC I've never used sketch but it seems like a bit of a pain in the bum from your description. TurboCAD 3D is a very easy program to create DXF files with. You can find a version that is a couple of generations old for about $20.
  17. I like the idea of your wiki. As far as the panels are concerned, knock yourself out. Make buckets of money off of it. The two are really mutually exclusive.
  18. I went with the 4Gb 290x. should be here the first of next week.
  19. Yep, running 3 monitors in eyefinity and a touchscreen for Helios. Frame rate is not bad. I'll do a couple test tonight to give you some accurate numbers. My CPU is a 1090t running at 3.9Ghz with 8Gb of memory.
  20. Helios is a great interface. I wouldn't be flying this sim without it. Yet it would seem the Gadroc may have moved on to other things. the UHF radio issue popped up with 1.2.7 and there hasn't been any word from Gadroc about it in several months. That might be a good thing because this issue is forcing me to build a pit. :)
  21. I don't think I'm going to xfire them. So if I don't xfire I will have 6Gb available? I'll probably use 1 for the 3 main screens and the other for the cockpit monitors.
  22. Currently running 3 1080p monitors in eyefinity with another 1080p Helios monitor. planning on adding a couple 640x480 monitors to the mix. currently using a 6970 card with 2GB of memory. I can get a couple of 7970's for 3 bills. they have 3GB of memory each. I know DCS will only use 1 GPU but I'm not sure if it will utilize the memory on both cards. I will probably have a total of 7-8 monitors displaying various viewports so I think I will probably need at least 4-6GB of memory. Thoughts? John
  23. light to medium smoke tracking can be removed with a magic eraser.
  24. What is the size of real MFD's? These do look puny.
  25. Is this a sales pitch of some kind? I don't get it...
