I thought $415 was high. But I just checked. When did the retail price go up to over $500? I bought mine new for $399 just a year and a half ago.

large display - TV type vs. Monitor
Thick8 replied to javelina1's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I used to game in 3D on a 10' projected screen. it was fun. The downside is that the room needs to be completely dark. That pretty much means you're alone in the room. with my 4 monitor setup my wife can join me in the gaming room and read in her lazy boy while I game. I guess if you don't have kids or a significant other (or hate them) then it would be ok. -
Saitek Pro Flight Rudder Peddles Or Combat
Thick8 replied to Rungaul's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Do a search here for Saitek pedal mod. Someone did what looked like an easy mod to his regular pedals that made them more like combat pedals. -
You could put a piece of wedge shaped wood on each pedal. the narrow end at the heal and the thick end at the toe. this will change the angle to better suit your body size and position. you could also make the blocks wider than the pedals and put the overhanging portion towards the inside of the pedal which will position your feet closer together. drilling some holes in the blocks will allow you to attached then to the pedals with cable ties.

Did you manually set your memory voltage to 1.65 volts?

large display - TV type vs. Monitor

Once you get one you'll want three. The only thing that would make my 3 39s better would be 3d on them. -
I think I just used the windows calibration when mine was acting up.

Rotary switches (not encoders)
Thick8 replied to Red Yeti's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Sure. Just use break before make rotory switches. I have 45 and 30 degree switches that are 4, 5, or 12 positions. You just have to hook up as many positions you need plus a ground. I think they were about 85 cents each. -
I never get more than 30 FPS. please help!

I have my 290 OC'ed 20% high but I have a DD series card and will be water cooling it soon and will try for at least a 25% OC. You coud try a modest 10% OC and see if it makes a difference. -
an Arduino USB HID controller, composite USB controller
Thick8 replied to overpro's topic in Home Cockpits
No answer? prying minds and all... -
I just downloaded and tried out VAC. Very cool. Is there is a way to turn on and off the mic using the WH radio hat switch? Down for UHF, forward for VHF AM, and rearward for VHF FM. I would rather not use the target software. Is there a way to program the warthog throttle to emulate a key press instead of a button push? I figure that would be the best way to handle what I want.

New Monitor Setup - advice needed
Thick8 replied to AlpineYoda's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I do dcs and several fps's and triple screen is the way to go. I use inexpensive 39" 60hz TV's. You do need a decent VGA card to run it. Everything ran good to great on my old 6970 but now everything is great on a 290. -

The bedroom is for 2 things and neither one of those requires a TV if done correctly:) -

Heat can be an issue if you go with plasma or a non-LED display. Before I switched to LED backlighting, my gaming room was about 10f hotter than the rest of the house. It's still a little warm but not sweat running down the butt crack warm. -
Disable Joystick Witouth Removing USB
Thick8 replied to KrizzKaliko's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You have a great new HOTAS and you want to disable it in favor of a keyboard and mouse?????? Huh... Just map your functions to the HOTAS. It's easy and you actually get to use your shiny new toy. John -
Adjust your PitchUp curve to less than 90 degrees then try it.

an Arduino USB HID controller, composite USB controller
Thick8 replied to overpro's topic in Home Cockpits
Some WAY noob questions so please be patient. Right now I'm using a Brydling board so my limitations are that I can't hook any encoders, indicators, or segmented LCDs to it. I have 0 (ZERO) programming experience but from what I've read here on the forums, all of these functions can be programmed into a MEGA board or two. I am very good at performing instruction to task type of work so should I just buy a couple of Arduinos and jump in? All of my panels are built using Reactorone's templates and I have 5 of them wired up with diodes. Do I really need to know how to program or can I just follow the instructions here and end up with a working cockpit? John -
I use an older logitech quickcam STX with Facetrack. I set it up for an cap mount IR emitter and it works flawlessly. some of the older logitech cameras aren't supported by 8.1 but there is a work around for that. You also need to turn off any post processing effects on the camera like low light boost and auto focusto gain maximum (30 FPS) camera framerate. John

Cool and thanks. Off to Amazon now. John

I'd like to hook up my WH throttle and stick, a keyboard, and a mouse to a USB hub. Is that too much data throughput? Does it need to be a powered hub if it can be done? Thanks, John

The 200 series cards will throttle down the clcok speed when temps go up. Have you tried monitoring your GPU temp with the MSI app? -
I'm trying to find a fix for the trim as well. I did my GA flight training in 2 aircraft. One had a manual trim wheel and the other an electric trim switch. the trim in both aircraft is MUCH more accurate than the DCS aircraft. FSX trim is much more accurate as well. So the issue is with DCS. There's got to be a setting in a LUA file somewhere. John

You mean like this? I use print.net (freeware) to cut each panel out of the picture and resize it to actual dimension.
-
Just bumping it makes too much of a trim adjustment. I know I can work the throttle to get accieve s&l flight but I would like to trim up for refuel with a little more accuracy. John
