  1. Does Nvidia do passive 3D now? 3 55" 3D TVs would be sweet.
  2. That would work considering the 4th would be Helios or the front instrument panel.
  3. It works well on my 290 and I have the visuals cranked up, WAY up. I should do a video. I was thinking 6 to 8 GBs for surround3D.
  4. Just checked the website NVIDIA Surround™ with up to Four Monitors Now, you can play your favorite games across four monitors. At 5760 x 1080, the expanded field of view fully engages peripheral vision and provides for the most immersive experience in racing and flight simulators. Wonder if it can do it in 3D. That would be way cool.
  5. I was checking out the reviews the other day and it seem like an awesome card. The $600 price tag is pretty steep for a card that just nudges out the 290x. I didn't see if it could run 4 monitors though, can it?
  6. I think it depends on what you want out of your card. If you are running 1 or 2 screens then a Nvidia 2Gb card is the way to go. If you are looking for something to drive 3 or 4 screens with all the eye candy then a high end 4Gb AMD card is what you want. Oops, just realized this is a year old thread.
  7. Check to see if your controller files are read only.
  8. A good liquid cooler will give you a higher clock. My frames increased substantially going from 4Ghz to 5Ghz. I'm not sure if the extra 2 cores factored into the equation. xtremesystems.org has some extensive testing of different water cooling configurations to give you an idea of what to expect. You may want to consider a 4Gb card to use 3 or 4 monitors.
  9. 1 high end (290, 290x) AMD card will run 4 monitors (3 mains and 1 Helios). 2xAA, No HDR (I'm not a fan) and everything else maxed out (with the extreme view distance mod) at 40-60 FPS. I tried mine in portrait mode. but found that the wider FOV in standard mode is more immersive. This is of course a personal preference. Definitely agree on the thin bezel. If you can't find a thin bezel you can always remove the panel from the frame. 104" of screen and only 2" of bezel.
  10. I have 3 39" screens. The two side screens are at a 45 degree from the center screen. Overall FOV is 160 degrees. you have to make some changes to the view lua to compensate but it looks beautiful. I also use Facetrack that doesn't kick in until I turn my head about 60 degrees. My 55" TV can't touch the feeling of immersion I get with a triple screen setup.
  11. I used Microsoft Security Essentials for several years with no virus issues at all. When I upgrade to Windows 7 a couple of years ago and then Windows 8 I started using the built in Windows Defender and firewall as the replacement for MSE. I've had probably about 100 notifications that viruses where caught and being cleaned while using the Microsoft products but have had no adverse issues requiring any action on my part.
  12. Right click on the install .exe and pick run (admin) from the dropdown box. A virus issue may require a full install of windows.
  13. With 16Gb of ram you could turn off page filing. I have it turned off with only 8 Gb and never run out of memory. My 4Gb laptop will run out of memory sometimes when I play CS:GO. You might want to try disabling Norton, as it's a memory hog, to see if that helps. Windows 7 and 8 have built in anti-virus that doesn't take many CPU cycles to run. I haven't used a 3rd party anti-virus since XP. You should have about 50-60 processes running on your system. If you have more then you have to much bloatware running. Download ccleaner to check for and disable any unnecessary programs from starting that might be hogging resources. smartdefrag is a good free defrag utility that is better than the Windows one and has a drive map as well.
  14. You could go for both speed and core count. A water cooled 8350 will run at 5Ghz on all 8 cores 24/7.
  15. Change of heart?
  16. Love your use of PCV pipes. Looks like you glue yours. I screw mine together so I can reconfigure as needed (read, fix mistakes). I also made my extension from PCV. looks awesome and only cost $20. The one panel I'm missing is the UHF radio. do you have the files for it that I can have? John
  17. Well that's going to make things alot easier... thanks.
  18. I had this issue when using Fraps with FTnIR and DCS.
  19. My bad. I have an automotive background so the comparison is always SAE vs. Metric. I Guess ANSI would be the more accurate acronym. You have directed me to some very informative government resources for panel design and all of them have been ANSI based.
  20. The LOZ 2.1 profile has all of the charts included. You can print them out, laminate them and put them on a ring. very simple. This is an example of how I catch the glide slope. Vaziani runway 14 true heading is 135. Subtract the +5.6 and I get 129.5ish. I set the HSI pointer to this heading. At about 20 miles out from the airport I call in for landing . Turn to the heading and set the ALT baro as instructed. Slow to 200Kts and make altitude 3000Ft. enable the bars. Watch the HSI alignment bar. when It starts to move towards alignment follow it to the runway heading. Disengage the HSI and engage the ILS buttons. I'm now 10 miles out lined up on the runway. I set my heading carrot to 3 degrees down (300 ft drop for each mile traveled) and ride the bars in. Slow to 189 knots. Lower flaps. At 5 miles out I contact tower and lower gear. slow to 150 Knots. Flair and full airbrake to catch the ball right before touchdown. After a few times you can do it in full fog where you can't see the runway until your almost on it. You probably know this but attitude= speed and throttle=altitude. So you never chase the horizontal bar with the stick but with the throttle.
  21. I interface through Helios for 3 position switches. It can be done in the LUA file but since they changed the input file structure I'm not sure how to do it.
  22. I'll take the UFC with the board. PM on it's way.
  23. Most of the panels people have draw up are metric in size. I have 3 or 4 drawings of R1's panels that I sized to ASE specs. Got tired of that and just cut out R1's. They look great. I did realize after cutting them out that some are not modeled and some will never be used. I just finished painting the edges and have a few wired up. The thing is, no matter how realistic your cockpit is, it will never get off the ground. even with a motion simulator the chances of crashing and dying during a crosswind landing is nil. In St. Pete I would have to clear a 5 story hospital then drop down to land on runway 07 with a 15 knot crosswind, then get stopped before taking a swim with the sharks in Tampa Bay. When it's all said and done this really is just a game. John
  24. You really want a touch screen monitor. I use a windows 7 compatable 22" Planar monitor. the Windows 7 monitor has a raised bezel so it can't be used as a Windows 8 primary monitor because you can't do edge swiping. they can still be had new on Ebay and they are much cheaper than a Windows 8 monitor. John
  25. I made myself a set off of reactor1's plans. It's a .60" bottom plate, a .220" middle (light) plate, and a .60" black on translucent top plate. The top plate is laser eched so you can see the translucent white . The whole thing is backlit from the bottom with LED strips. I had too many Honey-do projects while I was off of school for the summer so it's not finished yet. I posted some pics of the panels here in the forum. I have enough material to do another set. there are some of the panels that aren't modeled in DCS so that was kind of a waste but they look cool. Let me know what you want and Ill post a couple of pics of those panels. I'm only offering the three plastic pieces but I did make up a list of low cost switches that work well. You can use a Bodnar board and some flate cable to hook it all up and use Helios or mod the .lua files to drive them. I use Helios as it is very easy to do. Price is 3x the cost of the plastic and the check would have to written to the school where I work. All the proceeds go to the special need students program there. John
