  1. I just upgraded my CPU to a Ryzen 3600 and am looking at a used 2080ti with a water block installed for under a grand. The 3600 was a very noticeable improvement. Would a 2080 ti be a decent step up as well?
  2. It's all pretty simple. Here's a place to start. http://www.navfltsm.addr.com/index.htm
  3. I would go after a second hand motherboard, memory, and GPU on eBay to save money. There are so many people upgrading to the new Ryzen platform that there is a lot of good equipment out there. Many of them combos if you want a first gen Ryzen CPU. I kept my MB but sold my memory and CPU on eBay just the other day. Got a little better than half of retail cost.
  4. I just use distilled water with a silver dollar in the reservoir. I never have to clean out my cooling system. The only time it gets cleaned is when I upgrade something. I just put a new CPU in last week and the water was crystal clear and no debris. Automotive coolant is designed for a 200F engine environment, not a computer. The BEST coolant is water. I Put the motherboard (less the battery), memory, and video card in the dishwasher (heated drying cycle required) slapped it all together and I was up and running in less than a weekend.
  5. Too cool. I put a 3600 and Crucial Ballistic Elite 3600 ram in my C6H . Had to set the boot vDIMM to 1.35v to get it to cold boot. I'm seeing similar gains. The 1080ti is at 100% usage at all times in DCS now. This is on a Samsung+
  6. Me too. I'm going to pull 2 sticks out of my machine today and run some tests. A DCS benchmark test would be nice.
  7. Is it possible to create a DCS benchmark that we can all use? Can you just save a track and upload it to the user file section and have it work as a benchmark?
  8. I told my wife I was thinking of selling both 1080 ti GPUs. She said “you mean the one out of my computer”. So I told her she could buy it from me for $550 if she wants to call it hers. Gonna have to see how this plays out.
  9. If you buy the 3700x now then will will deny yourself an interim upgrade when the 3800x goes on sale in December. Buy the 3600 now for $200 then sell it for for a hundred bucks and buy the 3800x for $250. You will have paid the same price but gotten twice the fun out of it.
  10. The 3600 is $200, the 3800x is $400. Not sure how that translates but that's almost a whole day's pay.
  11. From everything I’m reading, and watching memory usage videos, 32Gb serves no purpose for gaming. I have tomorrow off and will do some testing in DCS; then order another 16 if it is warranted.
  12. Damn! I thought I was decided and then after all the input; did a tour around the internet for a couple of days. I just ordered the 3600 non-x. I don't need the cooler and will have to overclock it manually on the 370x chipset anyways so no need to get the x. The memory I want is still out of stock so I'll just put the screws to this 3000 set and see what happens. I'll let you all know in a couple of days. Edit: I just went ahead and ordered 16Gb of the Ballistic Elite 3600c16 memory too. I'll wait on the GPU for the now. The water-cooled 1080ti is going for around $600 on eBay and that shouldn't change for at least a little while.
  13. I was just looking at GPU load in DCS using HWinfo a couple of hours ago because I had a question about Vram. In VR with a ss of 1.5, 2xMSAA, most everything on high except for heat blur (low), Shadows (flat), and civil traffic (low). My 1080ti showed 100% GPU load and 78% memory usage. That's 8.5 Gb Vram.
  14. So I think the upgrade is going to be: AMD Ryzen 3700x G Skill DDR4/3600 cas16 memory Gigabyte 2080ti Waterforce GPU That'll be a $2100 hit but I should be able to sell my current stuff for about $700 after eBay costs. Hmmm. need to come to terms with this. Maybe I'll sell my i7-4790/1080ti gaming rig too. It rarely gets used and I have a laptop that will do all the games my wife plays in VR really well. At least I have a few days to ponder it before everything is back in stock at Newegg.
  15. Thanks for this. I have had the 3700x in my cart twice only to have it go out of stock in the time it took to go from the product page to my cart. Frustrating to say the least. I currently have the a 1080ti and am thinking about getting the 2080ti. Maybe I'll hold off on the 2080ti till I've seen what the CPU will do.
  16. The in-game FPS counter shows I'm using 17 Gb of Vram on my 1080ti.
  17. I went ahead and put the 3700x in my Newegg cart only to find that the PC3600 memory I spent hours researching and put in the cart an hour ago sold out. Frustrating.
  18. I wish reviewers would benchmark DCS. Not sure if I will see any real benefit swapping out my 1700 for a 3700x. I was hoping the 3700x was going to clock higher because DCS is cycle hungry. I’m now torn between the 9700 @ 5 GHz and the 3700x @ 4.3 GHz.
  19. I found a Next Level f/got rig second hand; modded it a little and it worked very well. My old bones weren’t a fan of the seat so I swapped it out for a used truck seat, modded it some more, and now it’s perfect. Takes less than a minute to swap between driving, flying, and questing. If you have the time and wherewithal, finding something close to what you want and modding it is probably the best option.
  20. There are new pilots in multi player every day it seems. I think that is the driving force behind the dev support. This game will never get old. In 20 years there will be the moon wars update.
  21. Yes, it’s an MS fix being rolled out with the monthly update. It was pretty bad for me. It made the instruments unreadable from normal seated position whereas I can read them easily with the 1809 build. I hope they got it right because the 1903 has some nifty new features.
  22. The update is supposed to drop on the 9th.
  23. No. It got progressively worse over time. I had to push it harder to keep the starter engaged in the Huey. In retrospect I should have mapped it to a toggle switch. Can’t imagine it would cost very much and I only want to take it apart once.
  24. Does anyone have a part # for the red auto pilot pinky switch on the left engine throttle? I wore mine out using it to start the Huey.
  25. You didn’t mention if you’re a fat head like me. I have an IPD of 71.5. Fortunately the Odyssey + has a physical adjustment for IPD. Add in the high resolution (not highest anymore), anti screen door technology, and the OLED screens; it’s still the best thing going IMHO.
