Isn’t the Pimax 5k+ upscaled internally from a lower input resolution like it was with the 4K?

Go to their forum. The moderator is a bit of a zealot but you can find answers there.

Reddit r/windowsMR is a great place to gain better understanding of the O+ and VR in general.
-
With the 1080ti you can add a little more PD WITH 2xMSAA. I use 1.5. Also map the VR zoom function to a HOTAS button. I found that I had to modify my O+ so that it fit on my head and face better. I should have made a video because it made a world of difference.

I think I'm going to wait for OLED screens. My Odyssey+ will have to hold me over till then.

I found setting the in game ipd to my actual ipd put the cockpit at proper scale. I used a ruler and kept raising and lowering the visor while I held the ruler up in front of me aligned with the hsi. When the gauge was the right size as per milspec the ipd was a match for my prescription.

I have a multi-gesture touchpad. So a three finger drag down is out and drag up is in.
-
You can also choose a modifier on your controller and double the number of commands available. I use the pinky paddle on the Warthog stick as my modifier. I also mounted a multi gesture touchpad in front of my throttle so I can perform any 3 button mouse function just by reaching my fingers forward with my hand resting on the throttle. Simple and unintrusive.

You can turn off the SteamVR shut down when idle feature in the SteamVR settings. I will often use my Odyssey+ without the monitor turned on or tuned to my wife’s gaming rig. This became possible with the fall creators update. Although it does stutter in the Cliff House sometimes with the monitor off.

I think that it’s just round now when in comm mode. Double click the middle mouse button to switch it to selector mode.

Screen size for 1:1 cockpit representation

I went from 3 40” 1080p TVs with a 22” touchscreen monitor for HELIOS to the Samsung Odyssey. I have a 55” 4K TV that is only used to mirror my gameplay so my wife can watch when the mood hits. Just can’t fly on a monitor anymore. -
Make sure your config files noted above are not read only. I chased that ghost for a week one time.

Happens every time for me.

You might want to look for a used Samsung Odyssey on EBay. A lot of owners have upgraded to the Odyssey + and are selling the original for around $200. WMR doesn’t require a remote tracker and the Odyssey is by far the best offering with its higher resolution OLED screens. I would sell you mine but my wife discovered Elven Assassin so I will probably be keeping it.

DCS loves CPU speed vs. core count. Water cooling and overclocking the CPU would serve you well. I run a seriously overclocked 1080ti and am able to crank up the eye candy pretty high. Yet I still will drop to 45 FPS in areas of high graphical demand in DCS. If it can’t hold 90 it will go to 45. I thought there was going to be some sort of performance gain with 2.5 but that never seemed to happen.

It's pretty much all over the internet. just do a search for "Odyssey+ vs. Rift"

Any experience with Samsung Odyssey Plus & DCS yet?

I waited too long to decide and the Windows store was out of stock. Ship date from Samsung is the week of 12/16. That’s OK as I have the OG to hold me over. Plus I just started playing iRacing. What a killer driving sim. -
Couldn’t help myself. Unfortunately the Windows Store was out of stock and the Samsung store won’t be shipping it till the week of Dec. 16. I will probably give my OG Odyssey to someone for Christmas. Gotta go find my naughty or nice list.

Modest upgrade. No one has to compete with Pimax because their setup is incomplete, their QC is severely lacking, and their software pretty much sucks. So Oculus is going to copy the WMR unit with inside out tracking and a small resolution bump. No need to leap frog over the competition when there is more money to be made by putting out small incremental upgrades.

Samsung Odyssey VR Headset Revealed with “Anti-SDE” Display
Thick8 replied to rjetster1's topic in Virtual Reality
A trade up program would be cool but probably won’t happen. This upgrade will keep the Odyssey on top. People want a simple to use plug and play device which the Odyssey is. I thought I read that the controller tracking area was expanded as well. If so, even the Pimax with its greater FOV may be a hard sell. I wonder if they will have the headset available by itself for a reduced price. -
Samsung Odyssey VR Headset Revealed with “Anti-SDE” Display

I bet they want to clear their inventory before we all put ours up for sale on EBay to fund the new one. Dastardly bastards. -
turning off the WMR ASW via the config file? There’s instructions on reddit as well as a YouTube video. I turned it on when it was in beta and DCS didn’t like it at all.

PointCTRL - Finger Mounted VR Controller
Thick8 replied to MilesD's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Dude. The first thing I said in this thread was "I'm glad someone is running with this idea". I also noted how we share and build off of each others ideas here on this forum. I even said it may be a little petty of me to feel the way I do. So there is no high road to take. Build your pointer. If it is what everyone hopes it to be then I'll probably buy one as well. I will want a discount though... ;D- 3421 replies

The Pimax 5K isn't even out yet. I had the Pimax 4K. It was, by far, the most poorly engineered, assembled, and supported piece of equipment I've ever purchased. I hope Pimax has gotten their act together but there is nothing I've seen to date that indicates it. BTW. The Odyssey is pretty sweet.
