  1. Thanks much! Was hoping it was reproducible and it wasn't just me. I really love the new DM, enjoying watching the prop take damage, and all the cowling effects . . . but flying around with no prop, cowling, and the engine is purring like nothing is wrong was giving me serious "hmmmm, that doesn't seem right" moments! To be fair, I have had that damage, and lose power, but just as many times, catastrophic damage as in your pic, and can cruise along maintain all readings nominal and have a nice flight.
  2. Sigh, I have been so happy and content with the P-47. Then you just painted this scenario in my mind of the Mossie - so when do we get it?? :D:D:D:lol:
  3. Chasing Anton's is hella fun! :thumbup::thumbup:
  4. One of my favorite scenarios, but yeah, those guys are shooting guided rounds and will rip you to shreds. Whether from on high, or coming in even on tail, you need to be hauling, and I "porpoise" a bit inbound, but make your pass quick and unload for as long as can, no "saving ammo". However, I have noticed with the last couple of updates, you can dish out a whole lot of hurt on them, and they don't really take too much of a performance hit. Best way to deal with them? Fire up your A-10C, switch to A-A mode, switch to gun funnel. You still have to be careful as they will fill your engines full of lead and bring you down; however, the mighty GAU on a good burst will remove a wing, and other sections. That is about the only way to bring a JU down quick!
  5. DCS 2.5.6.50793 Open Beta - 11.06.2020 After latest update, to address "DM insensitivity" I took ground fire, lost 3 of four paddles (prop blade) was able to fly straight and level with no shaking or loss of power at 300+ IAS for several miles. P.S. recreated later, with no prop, and significant damage. Able to fly straight and level with all power readings nominal. Air speed did not decrease, no shaking etc. Able to "fly" like this for several miles. Attached pics Added mission if anyone wants to try and recreate. Simple, just fly at enemy column and shoot targets. About 1 out of 5 times you will take damage like this, with missing prop, and be able to fly as if nothing is wrong. You will need WWII assets. Caucasus used, so map should work for everyone. P47CaucasusStraf.miz
  6. Getting used to it now. Already have certain rudder trims I "spin" in depending on Prop speed, boost, throttle, as well as roll trim. I have been able to create almost level unattended flight at lower altitudes with little to no boost, prop speed dialed back, throttle back a bit. All metrics in the "blue/green" areas of vacuum, RPM etc. She will just float along nice and level at about 280 knots. Thank you for all your previous insights. Really having fun learning how to fly a bird that needs constant attention. I was just used to the A-10C, and how (by comparison) easy it is to fly.
  7. All from memory right now, but as I started getting into the 29K feet range, I had to pull the boost lever back a bit a few times. Was hitting 20K RPM and holding it for Turbo. I was pulling back on prop speed and keeping it right around 2300 RPM, but could have sworn I was a tad over 60". I will check again later today.
  8. Good, I am not crazy, she was more responsive, and I was burning pretty good speed at altitude. Hit (I think) 31,000 feet ish, and man this thing was burning hard. Had to pull back on boost a couple time to keep from over revving. In some dogfight scenarios, I was either able to chase down (Anton) or not get left in the dust and pursue (BfK) this thing is amazing.
  9. P-47 listed as engine power was modified, but it is listed under the Christen Eagle from today's update notes: DCS Christen Eagle II by Magnitude 3 Fixed bright lights in the cockpit Yaw damping tuned Correction Cx0 P-47 motor power tweak Fixed wrong caption of canopy jettison tooltip Propeller looks incorrect in the runway spotlight
  10. Create a quick mission, plunk down an Anton, or a Ju88. Change altitude, bearing, distance. You can have all kinds of fun. Of course you can add the Dora, or the Bf, or even another Jug!
  11. I have to agree. I am not a pilot, and lots of opinions, including my own about how fun she is to fly, but I also mentioned not "stable" - but I did read the NASA report, and I understand that with that massive engine, and as someone else pointed out, some spinning mass in the tail - well, trim and rudder input are just how it is going to be, and I am absolutely LOVING this bird. Just a long way of me saying, sorry I doubted a bit, all the reports and size of this bird make sense she would need trim and a very hands on flight model. Which makes it so much fun. Waited six years for this bird, and I have to say, after every flight I am either grinning ear to ear, or researching her more, to understand how to fly it better.
  12. Well, that would be me. I have done exactly that. Using lots of Rudder trim, rudder, and roll trim dynamically to offset for different behaviors at different throttle and boost settings. I guess I am used to it, but I did see one review video where the tester talked about how stable and easy the P-47 was a fly. I love this plane, but I wouldn't use the term "stable and easy to fly".
  13. Thanks for this Yo-Yo, great document, fascinating read. Just affirms what we are seeing when flying under different power modes. Much appreciated!
  14. Thank you pmiceli - a great read and summary! Much appreciated!
  15. As others have discussed, and picking up on effects of engine management by content folks (links in this thread) - Yes, the torque of the engine, the effect of the dorsal fin in this model, and engine management will cause the nose to yaw about a bit depending on a multitude of settings, and how hard you are pulling on the stick. Which is absolutely WONDERFUL, I love it; however, some ways I have found to mitigate it. I have mapped rudder trim to my Throttle HOTAS (Thrustmaster) and will trim accordingly to offset roll induced by engine power, torque, boost settings. It is very dynamic, you will do this a lot. I also set very small curve changes to create a lower rate of change off the initial axis movement of the stick for Pitch and Roll. If you have rudder pedals, if you find that constantly trimming the Rudder is laborious and tricky, especially in combat, offset inertia rolls with rudder input, this will keep the front from wobbling when in a turning fight. It won't completely eliminate it, but it will reduce it. Also, from another excellent vid, pulling back on the stick hard will cause oscillation, sometimes just let off the pressure a bit, and the nose oscillation will dampen down. My 2 cents FWIW - many fighters cannot get away from her in climbing nose up energy fights, such a wonderful quirky airplane!!!
  16. So if we can get modern airfields on a WWII period map - can I get modern engines in my Me 262, maybe some AIM 9X's or radar? How about the A-10C with lookdown radar capability and JHMCS full integration? Of course I am being facetious, but it seems there is always some push somewhere to get ED to move away from the realism and immersion that is one of the core components of who they are. I say to those folks, thier are plenty of titles out there that will let you have those scenarios. So you can play those, and play DCS when you want immersion. Win win! However, there is some excellent suggestions here for "setting the clock", not sure how feasible that is.
  17. Sydy already hit a big one, but a few others can trip you up: 1.) Boost knob not tied to Throttle, or set too high while throttle is pulled back. 2.) Propeller speeds not in Green or Blue zones of RPM (too low), check your Propeller speed knob position, make sure you are in Auto and not switch based pitch increase or decrease. 3.) Mixture knob, make sure it is in Auto Rich, vs. Auto Lean or full on full forward position. 4.) Make sure your Intercooler and Oil cooler flaps are at least in Neutral and not closed, causing overheating - not sure if modeled yet, but something to check.
  18. Same sir, have most of my mappings done to my Thrustmaster HOTAS, still tinkering with a few more before I commit on the joy stick (like brake lever on bottom mapping possibly as brake release?) I have noticed some things though with Cylinder Head Temp, and Ammeter in regards to current. Even when I have Boost slaved to Throttle (low altitude) or Off position, with Intercooler neutral, and oil cooler set to neutral and cowling full closed at cruising speeds of 250 to 300 knots, my cylinder head temps are pegged at 300! All other metrics like oil temp, fuel pressure, oil pressure, system Hg, manifold pressure etc. are all within green or blue ranges. The propeller selector is set to green RPM engine speeds relative to the throttle - but those cylinder head temps peg every time . . . are we still dealing with WIP for EA things? Also my ammeter always reads zero, even with generator on, and the startup manual doesn't show anything to make sure it gets current. Still, I am in seventh heaven right now!!!
  19. Just noticed your tag on signature, made me laugh.
  20. Same sir, dollar for dollar the most enjoyable "game" out of many that I have ever invested in.
  21. My final selection also! Have faith, it appears to me that many synergies and development strategies, along with new developers are increasing the depth and breadth of updates! Meaning ED is ramping up fairly quickly I believe. You will fly the ME!
  22. Just downloaded the manual, and did a quick search for my name, sure enough there I am (actual name); however, I was gobsmacked when I went through the list of all levels of backers. Hundreds of people, thousands. A rough calculation using rows and columns yielded 2,800+ good folks that donated. A hats off, to everyone that initially rolled with the Kickstarter, and another big thank you to ED for salvaging that effort and bringing us these wonderful birds. I have been having a blast just mapping the throttle quadrant to the Thrustmaster A-10 HOTAS. This bird is going to bring hundreds upon hundreds of hours of enjoyment. A big thank you to everyone!:thumbup:
  23. Should be a button that indicated "Get License" with the P-47 highlighted in backers profile. Issued once I selected. it.
