  1. DCS downloads will check, and pick up where you left off. It may have to refresh some files, but it won't start from the beginning based on what it finds previously downloaded. As long as you are invoking the DCS updater (which it should run and check every-time you start Open Beta or Release), it will figure things out for you, and take care of it. For the module, I would stick with the OK to install. I use a different method from the command line, but we will hold off on that depending on what issues you run into. A way to get a rough estimate of your download speed would be to go to a speed test site like this one (after the download is stopped, finished or paused): https://www.speedtest.net We can figure out from there what we are up against.
  2. Loaded question sir, as in my case I can download several files, terrains etc. that equal hundreds of gigabytes or 4 to 9 terabytes in less than an hour (minutes in cases), no more than 3 hours. What is your Internet connection speed?
  3. Never mind those thermal runaway battery fires, and those pesky door handles that don't deploy on major accidents preventing folks from getting to you . . . especially when a Telsa is on fire.
  4. Random, thanks for the reference. To add to it, those 8 hours included a lot of flying with the default bindings. Most of the mapping done was to map Pitch, Boost, Cowling settings, Bomb drop toggle switches, Inter-Cooler, Oil Cooler, Dive Flaps and other often used controls. Even then it was me moving them around to make them more ergonomic. So plenty of flying in those 8 hours (= fun!) and experimenting with different HOTAS mappings to create an environment where I didn't touch the keyboard or use the mouse cursor to click a control. I think the only thing I use the keyboard for is landing gear, and the radio buttons A - D. The short of it being, it wasn't all drudgery and boring. Plenty of flying in there while I optimized bindings to my liking. Just want new users to understand I flew the P-47 out of the box, no binding changes other than I had to delete some dual mappings between the Thrustmaster Pedals and the Stick, which admittedly is kind of odd, not sure if that is a thing with other input devices. A couple visits to the control bindings and you figure it out pretty quick, and using the SEARCH function, which is a real boon in finding mappings and changing them. DCS has a lot of commonality with other sims, so control bindings shouldn't really be that tough, and even if you do have issues, just ask!
  5. Good points. I wasn't aware of how the P-51 worked, as I have not flown it much. Thanks for the clarification.
  6. Update on "Visual Damage model" bug For the Visual Damage model "bug" - if applicable. Experienced a new development this morning. Track file, and pics attached. Early in the mission sustained damage and was down to one prop blade visually. No change in performance or flight parameters, but this has been documented before. However, after I sustained yet more damage, cowling blown off, I reverted back to a 4 bladed, bent back damage visual. Again no impact to performance. I know the product is beta, and Damage Model is being worked on, this is just for reference for the developers if needed. Track file too big, if there is a link I can send it to, for developers will do. Adding YouTube Channel vid I captured in lieu of track file: Removed Vid - last few OB releases have greatly improved damage effects surrounding the prop, even get malfunctioning Curtis Electric Speed governor issues on damage now!! 10/02/2020 - this update post: 2.5.6.55363 Currently Running 2.5.6.55847
  7. Good times, BF2 and BF1 (1942 also) - and your point is dead on. After awhile the titles were basically abandoned only to be overrun by bunny hopping hackers and cheaters. Sure you could still play it, if you liked getting spawn sniped and no one was left for organized play. The only examples of those games being supported long after the player base had moved on was Community mods like "Project Reality", as the developer had walked away from it long ago. To your point (as to why DCS is still strong) and others about "10 year old titles" that are still playable. Sure they are out there, but do you STILL play them, do they STILL have a enthusiastic community to interact with, are they STILL interesting enough that you have it installed and actively play it day in and day out? In this regard, DCS is hands down the longevity best bang for the buck king of this gaming genre. Really don't understand all the wailing and gnashing of teeth to get a significantly upgraded module and it might cost $60.00 or more. Even if I already own it.
  8. Exactly. For clarity, of where I stand on the A-10CII Shut up and take my money. I have spent more on the Borderlands and Fallout Franchise for titles that wear thin and old within six months. I am still getting enjoyment out of modules I bought 6 or 7 years ago from ED. DCS is a steal when it comes to longevity and enjoyment for the initial investment.
  9. Using TM HOTAS throttle and stick, control mappings from within DCS. Latest OB, so far Caucasus, Channel and Normandy, Trim for Elevator, Rudder, and Ailerons have worked fine for me on single player missions I am designing.
  10. Sorry, I was referencing my backer page when I initially replied, the 262, and all the other aircraft are options and have been for years since the kickstarter was taken over - not sure why your account differs, maybe you need to open a ticket?
  11. Been "flying" the A-10 for 6 years. Got it on sale back then. Hell they could charge $100.00 for it, and I would find a way to buy it, seeing as how I have gotten multiple returns in enjoyment and knowledge from that initial $29.00 investment. Discount would be nice, but a "newer" A-10C, with previous issues addressed, new skins, modeling etc. ??? Shut up and take my money!!
  12. It shows two aircraft selected, and your backer level as 2 aircraft. Since those licenses are issued already, you will have to wait for the 262 to come out, and pay DCS module price. 262 is still in early development.
  13. Wow, thanks! I had no idea it was still possible. I had a "hunch" it might be feasible, but at the same time, I just assumed it would be too catastrophic. I haven't seen the "one blade" artifact since the last OB update. Performance seems unaffected by bent props, but I am a desk driver pilot, so no idea what that type of damage should "feel" like. Thanks on the bomb drop, I have been working on the technique described by WWII protocol. Once you get the hang of it . . . why would you need fuzing! :megalol: Did manage to grab vid later, protocol bomb drop for those not wanting to dig up the track file, happens right at start
  14. New track, and vid of visual damage @BIGNEWY Here is the track file, miz file, and a vid. Unfortunately, I had a great run with this track and miz, but wasn't recording, so I am including a vid from an earlier example that shows how the plane responds and flies even with prop blades bent back 90 deg with large holes in them. Will attach vid after it renders at YouTube visualdamage.trk P47CaucasusStraf.miz
  15. Can generate a video and track file of the "visual damage" this weekend and will upload. I haven't really noticed the prop as being very noticeable as far as regular flight with no damage. The only time I really get a sense of that is when the sun is directly behind me, at early morning angles and you can get some pretty intense flashing and glare . . . but I have no real world experience in if that is accurate or not.
  16. Second this, also the addition of more period ships for Russia, Germany, UK and US. For instance, right now a "Insurgent Boat" from the Caucasus map is one of your options for Third Reich, looks very out of place. Have some nice raid and bombing missions that I am creating but you can only place the U Boat, the Schnell torpedo boat, and one US destroyer and LST type, Russia and UK bring nothing to the table, especially for smaller faster boats or are just copies of the US LST. Boats like the Koenigsburg and Karlsruhe, along with a Kirov would be welcome!
  17. DCS A-10C folks: "First Time?" :megalol:
  18. Another fella had the same experience you did - I wonder if it would be the same for us fixed wing peasants? https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=249291&page=4
  19. Not a fluid dynamics guy, not an FM guy. Not going to try and be one. Just thrilled you let us peak under the hood, much appreciated.
  20. I used to think the A-10C needed a lot of trim based on power, ordinance loaded etc. Then I got the P-47D As others mention, trim to power and loadout - constantly.
  21. Reported a few times now: https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=277802
  22. That was what I did, googled those weapons systems, learned how my RWR presented them, made simple missions to experiment with different weapons, delivery, approach etc. Learned how to use my RWR to orient, and get a rough idea of distance, in order to flag them in my TGP. Some of the most satisfying, and eureka!! moments in my A-10C! Took some time and effort, and the reward was well worth it.
  23. Ahh yes, the auto jettison prop feature. Flown many missions sans prop. Does quite well.
