What's wrong with the Jug, why so little interest ?
SmirkingGerbil replied to Hueyman's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
Uhhhh, the only thing I am flying just as much is the A-10, having a blast making SP missions with it. Despite the fuzing/bomb stuff, as long as you do a 6 to 8K roll in, and drop all at once, you can destroy WWII armor with what we have in OB. Wonderful bird, hugely fun to fly! -
Quneitra - City, even ruins non-existant
SmirkingGerbil replied to SmirkingGerbil's topic in DCS: Syria Map
Good points, I had not considered that. I was "walking" the map the other day, and noticed Tanf was either missing, or just slightly modeled. Other places also. I was kinda bummed to see that Deir ez Zur was just outside the boundaries. Not pointing these out as if it is a problem, but historically, and recent history wise Idlib, Tanf, Manbij, Deir ez Zur, so many others are rich in content historically for missions etc. However, the map is stunning! Like I mentioned I just plunked a few static objects down, and all was good. -
Casual question, I was looking at this map to create some possible 73 scenarios and noticed the city of Quneitra is completely missing. I understand it was destroyed, but the only way to locate it is by the cross roads where it existed. The cross roads gave enough of a reference, I could place buildings etc. I was curious (other than surrounding close by towns) why Quneitra was left completely off the map? Geopolitical reasons? Historical? Not a concern or problem, as plopping down a few buildings around the correct road layout creates a small village where Quneitra was/is/existed.

I have no dog in this hunt, but being in the world I am in, not necessarily so. Subscribe to bug and IOC (indication of compromise) reports for Microsoft and Cisco products, since many of their products make up about 90% or our infrastructure. I get anywhere from 10 to 30 bug fix, bug tracker, IOC updates DAILY. Every day, not old alerts recycled, new ones DAILY. This is for a broad spectrum of hardware and software, some of it several years old and considered "feature complete - stable" I am not defending or taking sides here, but stable code, even some years old, gets new issues uncovered daily. I have so much hardware to update, to address bug fixes and vulnerabilities, that spans MOW (most of the world) I could hire a team of 80 people and would still not be able to keep up with the bug fixes that pour out of OEMs daily - for stable released, production code.

A-10C Flight Performance Request to Fixed with DCS: A-10C II

No absolutes here. First day buy for me, and the current Hawg is still fun after 7 years of flying. Very much appreciate the efforts of ED, Habu, Snoopy, many others. -
P-47 Rolls With Throttle And No Stick INput
SmirkingGerbil replied to NavyAce's topic in Controller Questions and Bugs
Kind of an aside Navy. Once you get your mappings fixed. The P-47 will roll, quite noticeably from torque or "nose wobble" when you push the throttle forward aggressively, or turbo boost comes on strong. If you are not ready for this, or offsetting with trim, or Boost Lever/Throttle application, it will give you issues on landing, gun runs, and cruising nice and level with zero stick input. The P-47 will fly straight and level with zero stick input, and it makes a wonderful gun platform, nice and stable - as long as you are aware of the torque influence. -
AV-8B, A-10C or F/A-18C Hornet. Which one to pick?
SmirkingGerbil replied to Mr.Scar's topic in DCS 2.9
Just wait till you start jacking around with things like Height of Function (HOF), Ripple (single, pairs) and qty per ripple, with offset in feet. The first time you watch 6 MK82's High Drag drift down in a lovely line of potential violence waiting to be unleashed in sequential Godzilla stomps . . . this, this is what it is all about! -
Sticky for me, nice layout Booster.

AV-8B, A-10C or F/A-18C Hornet. Which one to pick?
SmirkingGerbil replied to Mr.Scar's topic in DCS 2.9
I will vid and post to my YouTube Channel next time, but this weekend I setup a fairly straight forward mission, around the city of Quneitra Golan Heights/Syria map, 1973 ish (of course no hogs then, the city is "there" on the map, but the cross roads are empty, so I put some buildings down) No SAM threats yet, but plenty of T-55's, and ZSU-23-4 Shilka's and BDRs. Set myself up as a bomb truck (another unlikely scenario, but hey why not!!): 4 Mav AH-65D's, 6 GBU-12's, one rocket pod, one BDU-50 and of course Brrrrrtttt. Had to run 80% fuel, as I was heavy heavy! Came in at 12K ASL, high enough to wag my tongue at the ZSU's, even with them set to Red Alarm state, not much they can do. Proceeded to nuke all the ZSU's with my GBU's (CCRP), knocked out T-55's with the Mav's (only one went astray) then asked my wing man to beat up on what was left while I hammered with my rockets and Brrrrtttttttttttttttttttttttt. A full half hour of nothing but CTRL-F6 (ride the rocket baby! Dr. Strangelove!) and watching vehicles try to escape the Hawg doooom.:lol::lol: -

You did it! You went and did it! You drank the Hawg Koolaid! Gooooood, gooooooooood. -
Update for OB 2.5.6.54046 A quick update in regards to visuals. Damage model seems much improved, with new visuals and effects. I can't say for sure as a list wasn't specified, but seems greatly improved. In regards to flying around with 1 prop blade, or blades taking damage and being bent back every gun run with cowling being removed - that seems to have been reduced or completely modified. I do take cowling damage, but their appears to be more discrete panel damage, with more strike and bullet holes (similar to the Anton), instead of completely losing the cowling. Also, even though taking heave damage, I have yet to have a situation with all four blades bent back and pierced by large holes. IMHO visuals and damage are greatly improved, though that is subjective and may not aligned with actual changes. FYI:thumbup:

Dedicated A-10C II forum - https://forums.eagle.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=765 New module, original maintained, new module with the extra capabilities. So far everything in the A-10C II thread indicates ED plans on maintaining the original. -

SmirkingGerbil replied to Mr.Scar's topic in DCS 2.9
A-10C, A-10C II I have a bit of time in the F/A-18C, and it is a wonderful aircraft capable of all the things you mention, but two things kept me coming back to the A-10C 1.) Loiter - nothing else comes close, except maybe a helo, but even then they can't egress as quick to come back for more. 2.) Ability to absorb damage. The F/A-18 takes any damage, you are done. If you even survive. A-10C will get you home, and that is half the fun! Honorable mentions. 1.) Brrrrrrrrrt. Even after you bomb truck everything you have, you can always Brrrrrrtt more. 2.) With the A-10C II you are getting some pretty advanced avionics upgrades similar to fastie capabilities, and better night fighting capability. My 2 cents. -
Because why not? Thunderbolt vs. Thunderbolt II. Outcome unexpected, but not for the reasons I thought.

Just flew the new Su-27 Mission in Syria...
SmirkingGerbil replied to rrohde's topic in DCS: Flaming Cliffs
Well said, starting from 79 forward to current events, the new map, expanded existing ones, or new theaters of this region would be exemplary for missions and historical based scenarios for the reasons you mention.:thumbup: -
bomb and tank panel missing textures
SmirkingGerbil replied to catchforusthefoxes's topic in Bugs and Problems
You know, you're exactly right. Sometimes users call bugs one thing, then the devs call them another. Probably something that has to do with language translations, Developer acronyms, and differing languages supported by a multi-national user base and company employees. You see things, that no one else does. Maybe you should reach out to the Dev's and see about helping? We could sure use your insight and expertise. -
bomb and tank panel missing textures
SmirkingGerbil replied to catchforusthefoxes's topic in Bugs and Problems
I am going to assume you are not aware of where change logs are posted or maybe because sometimes they don't line up exactly with user titled issues, they may not look identical. List from:DCS 2.5.6.52196 Open Beta 2020-07-15 DCS P-47D by ED Added more oxygen containers. Parking brake handle update. Forced end switches on rad flaps on initialization. Switch on position lights by default. Matched descriptor to model. Added spin tweak. Guns pos corrected. Cooling: radiator's thermostat. FM adjusted for stall and spin with proper MOIs. Prop is tuned to increased power. Engine tweak. Prop AD data tuned for 2000/30". Canopy gap fix, attitude indicator wings illuminated fix. List from DCS 2.5.6.53756 Open Beta 2020-08-18 DCS P-47D Thunderbolt by ED Cylinder temperature fixed Gas temperature for turbine is constant regardless of magneto off or fuel cut-off - fixed. Aftercooler update. Changed position and cover's texture of the guns. Fixed collision model. Oil system update fixed missing FFB shake; added landing light driven shake reduced propellor disbalance effect magnitude Every bug fix I list, and more is covered in the above two. By not "publicly known" I mean they were not reported/noted and fixed internally, or when reported they did not get a lot of traffic in the forums; therefore, "not well known" - nothing secret about it. I am not sure what is missing from the 2 of 3 OB patch lists I reference above that you are concerned about, or feel hasn't been addressed. As mentioned the Bomb Panel is brand new. -
bomb and tank panel missing textures
SmirkingGerbil replied to catchforusthefoxes's topic in Bugs and Problems
This is a new bug, they most certainly fixed previous bugs folks have listed, to name a few (some not as publicly known as others): 1.) Landing, "easier" and better able to manage 2.) Flaps, drop and retract to real life specs. 3.) Cowling and or propeller damage changed, adjusted - fixed. 4.) Heat and oil temp - Cylinder Head temp management - fixed or realistic. 5.) Damage model, more incorporated into the latest release. 6.) Engine and airplane performance, improved/tweaked. That was with this latest OB and one other. I probably missed some. Today's update was primarily aimed at other modules that have had several outstanding issues for longer than the P-47, and a LOT of items were fixed!!! A good day! The bomb panel is new, it will get fixed. -
My two cents about the turn this community is taking

P-47 Updates 2.5.6.53756 OB
SmirkingGerbil replied to SmirkingGerbil's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
Holy Crow how did I miss that???? Are those just for Fuel Tanks, Chemical tanks only. I know you answered the question but I am professing my ignorance. Guess I need reread the manual! -
P-47 Updates 2.5.6.53756 OB
SmirkingGerbil replied to SmirkingGerbil's topic in DCS: P-47 Thunderbolt
Missed this. I did arm bombs for a quickie, and they didn't seem to cut loose. Ran the mission again, toggled covers, toggled center front panel switches, bombs dropped. We have yet another arming panel? I did have to remap my toggle cover and toggle switches after the maps for the switches was applied incorrectly. Guess I will need to fire it up and check this out. Darn, have to get in the P-47 and fly it, such a bummer. -
Nope, otherwise I would have responded to you. But since you are stating "they will leave legacy in a broken state" - I am asking why would that be? What makes you think that will happen? What is broken? I mean I guess I need to understand what you think broken is.

This response. The response of a vested owner, operator, employee, enthusiast. Realities of business change for no company. No profit, no company. This is the response of someone who wants both the end user community and the business to thrive, grow evolve. No one is getting shortchanged on the original A-10C. The wailing and gnashing of teeth is drama over what? $60.00 potentially for a full buy in? $30.00 for an upgrade?? As long as I see folks of ED/DCS working the way they are now, with the rate of development going on, and scope of what they are creating, they will get my money.

Still TrackIR guy, but running 60fps min, over Syria, with pretty heavy settings for a mid range. Was hitting 120 fps at 2K feet on overflights. Runs as smooth as Caucasus with more eye candy (Syria)! Maybe it isn't just Syria, maybe we got a boost across the board??
