Is DCS WWII stalled? DCS dont want customers?
SmirkingGerbil replied to motoadve's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
P51 from a real pilot It has been a long time since I few the P-51 in DCS, specifically take off scenario. When I was, I struggled as the aircraft had a propensity to roll, to the port I think. I would crash more often than not. My wife's Uncle is an FAA fella. Goes to crash sites to investigate AND builds planes. His current favorite is a "hot rod" Luscombe that he rebuilt from a wreck, and has taken me up in, to do barrel rolls, loops etc . . . while cackling the entire time. He has also flown the P-51 or relaying what he learned from a P-51 pilot who is a friend of his associated with the confederate Air Force. Again, couple of years (however long since the P-51 came out), and now I fly the A-10 exclusively. Anyway, I was mentioning to him how much trouble I was having with the P-51 in DCS. He instructed me to set the trim just so, and (I think) lock the tail wheel, and apply power and rotate at XYZ. Guess what, next time from cold start to take off, I lifted off and didn't crash. For whatever that anecdotal evidence is worth. When a real pilot, tells me to do XYZ, and I apply it to a aircraft in DCS and it works as compared to the same P-51 I have flown in the other "high end" titles, I would say in my own anecdotal real life experience that DCS flight models are pretty darn accurate, more so than any other flight titles have I have flown - and I have flown a lot of them. -
Is DCS WWII stalled? DCS dont want customers?
SmirkingGerbil replied to motoadve's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Played other "World Games", and other flight sims. From my perspective, the direction DCS is going long term is a true integrated world, across era's across platforms. Based on what is out there now, a long and difficult road to go, but in the end far far superior to any "World" combat simulator out there now. Worth the wait, and one of those folks (backers) that is thankful when ED stepped in and saved the mess that was the original WWII effort. So many wonderful platforms to fly in the meantime, and the updates (for me) indicate that nothing has been abandoned. When I get my ME 262, it will have been worth the wait. In the meantime, plenty to fly and master. Nothing else even comes close to DCS, on any level, that I have played currently on the market. Even the venerable IL2 Sturmovik series, which is still better than most. -
Sorry Weegie, hope it gets cleared up soon. Worth the trouble.

Weegie, I had the same problem till I used the "custom install directory" and had to include the path:\ . . . \. . . \bin directory (bin) specifically. Now I get every module correctly identified when I launch it and bring up the panel for Viacom. Also, I had a stock install path, but to a "G:" drive so not sure if Viacom is always looking for "C:" install paths only. Regardless, once I did this, and made sure to include \bin vs. not going that deep, everything works. G:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS\bin - leaving off \bin, no love, \bin did the trick. Slightly different than the fix link posted above. May not be your fix, maybe you tried, but thought I would mention it. I did not go back more than two pages of posts, so maybe you already did this.

Compared to other titles trying to create "Worlds", i.e. the tank and ships variety of arcade bent etc. DCS World is far more engaging and comprehensive. Trust me, I dabbled for a bit in the aforementioned games, and tired of the toxicity, simple mechanics, and unrealistic "balancing" that constantly took place. Point being, in DCS, Worlds and integration of them will create so many new avenues for simmers and fans of this title to explore, I see unlimited potential for growth here. Even maybe snagging some of the arcade types over from the titles mentioned.

DCS: de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito FB Mk VI Discussion
SmirkingGerbil replied to msalama's topic in DCS: Mosquito FB VI
My humble opinion for whatever it is worth. We need PFM, and AFM/SSM, both are important to the future of sim flight. I have many friends I am trying to get into DCS, and the PFM models with clickable cockpits is overwhelming and very steep learning curve for them. Having birds like the T51, SU-25, along with other offerings make entry into DCS easier. Thinking long term for the Sim market and community growth. Even with my ability to drastically reduce the knowledge ramp for friends into the A-10C, the AFM/SSM models are what they get initially interested in. I am using definitions of "professional flight model" and "Advanced Flight model" (+), with SSM as listed in tech questions of forums. -
DCS: Me 262 Discussion (Development on hold currently)
SmirkingGerbil replied to NineLine's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
Good news! Thanks for the update. Been flying 1C, ED, and others for years. Also original Kickstarter here, but good things take time. Appreciate the update, have plenty of aircraft to fly in the meantime! -
Activation problem with new AV-8B purchase
SmirkingGerbil replied to SmirkingGerbil's topic in Resolved Bugs
Seb, Well some good news, I hope this helps someone. No matter what I did, whichever ".exe" or binary I referenced using the module manager natively in DCS failed in some form or fashion. Out of frustration, I tried the Skate Zilla utility, pointing to the generic DCS World directory, and installed the AV-8B module it worked!!!! I could fly the module. However as reported earlier, I now had 11 modules to install, but using Skate Zilla interface, I re-installed each module (took forever) and they all worked. Even all my settings for each aircraft in my "Saved Games" folder was preserved. I have no idea why the module manager would crash in DCS, just thankful for the Skate Zilla utility. With all the installations I thought I would end up with extra files or content, but my install size stayed the same (guessing instead of true downloads, just used existing local files), and cleanup runs with updater.exe showed good install with no extra files. Problem solved, but going to stick with Skate Zilla's utility for module management from now on . . . even though I realize it is just an overlay for the Updater.exe file. -
Activation problem with new AV-8B purchase
SmirkingGerbil replied to SmirkingGerbil's topic in Resolved Bugs
Thank you Seb, I tried your suggestion with the same results as Case B and C above. The client crashes to desktop, nothing is installed. I can only run the "run.exe" file, in the first \bin directory, and play 95% of what I own, but AV-8B will not activate. Not sure what is going on. -
No option for "already have". One of the early original funders of the 1C(?) effort for the WWII aircraft that ED took over (thank you so much!) when it started to founder. Still waiting for my lovely P-47 and ME-262. However, not concerned about delivery, nor is this a complaint post. Just signifying I did jump in on the original Go Fund Me effort to get these aircraft in the sim. I would do it again, in relation to new content or significant overhauls. Still, these funding efforts shouldn't exceed the cost of a high end module around $50 to $100.00 USD.

Apologize for posting this here, but my existing ticket is going no where, and another post in "Customer Support --> Activation" isn't getting any hits. If this is a no no, can a mod please remove? Incident of activation problems with AV-8B up to this point: Have referenced existing resources for activation problems. If I have missed something, please forgive me, but I have looked everywhere for this! I have done several passes with the updater utility and command line options. Also disabling the mod, and reinstalling doesn't fix. Issue in a nutshell. After a lot of troubleshooting, and verifying installations using Skate Zilla GUI update utility, as well as the command line passes with the DCS updater utility, I am stuck. I located the following executable's in the following directories, for my current install. After some testing, noticed that different launch points produce different results. This is a fresh install, nothing added, scenarios below. G:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\ run.exe (case A). G:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\ DCS executable OR Run.exe (case B). G:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\bin\bin\DCS executable (case C). Case A runs fine, all mods I own (several) show installed, they all work. Go to install AV-8B, downloads, client shuts down, client never re-starts. Start client in Case A from scratch, AV-8B shows as installed, but only shows F2 screen, cannot pilot from F1. Other modules like A-10C, P-51D, using maps like Persian Gulf, Nevada all have pilot-able aircraft. AV-8B will launch on the aforementioned maps, but only F2 and watching fly with AI works. F1 and piloting never works. Case B, runs, but NOTHING shows as installed, only Caucus map, but I get 12 modules to load in module manager, I select AV-8B then install, game client shuts down, never starts again. Run from scratch, no module. Case C same as case B, but in this case only DCS binary is run, no run.exe as in Case A, or B (which has both files in the listed directory). Case C also shows all 12 modules I own to be installed, I try to install, client shuts down. Restart, nothing. Yes I own AV-8B, purchased about a month ago. All show version 2.5.3.24984 those being run.exe setup from the Skate Zilla utility and browsed to for application setup. Pretty sure run.exe is calling DCS binary, but since I found two and cannot replicate my problem with either, greatly confused. Only Case A, calling run.exe from the listed directory, gives me 95% of what I own, all working, except AV-8B. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

First post in quite awhile, so I have done a ton of troubleshooting and research, so as not to overlook basic testing etc. Have referenced existing resources for activation problems. If I have missed something, please forgive me, but I have looked everywhere for this! I have a ticket open, for a couple of weeks now, it is going nowhere. Issue in a nutshell. After a lot of troubleshooting, and verifying installations using Skate Zilla GUI update utility, as well as the command line passes with the DCS updater utility, I am stuck. Having located the following executable's in the following directories, here is what happens. Go to install AV-8B, downloads, client shuts down, client never responds. Start client as Case A from scratch, AV-8B shows as installed, but only shows F2 screen, cannot pilot from F1. Case C also shows all 12 modules I own to be installed, I try to install client shuts down. Restart, nothing. Yes I own AV-8B, purchased about a month ago. Running both the GUI updater, cleaner, and repair, along with command line versions show I am clean and green, with no problems. from any instances of an EXE file. Any help would be greatly appreciated, getting nowhere with my ticket. Thanks,

Have been flying DCS titles for years, this is probably my 10th post. I also would like to get some news on the P-47 or ME also. However, as mentioned earlier, these aircraft were taken over from an offshoot of 1C (if I remember correctly), and I am grateful DCS has decided to see these aircraft to completion. I too was an original backer . . . just glad that DCS is taking their time to model these air frames faithfully.

DCS WWII - Questions and Feedback
SmirkingGerbil replied to Krupi's topic in Western Europe 1944-1945
All in all, just glad ED stepped in. If all I get out of this is the planes I selected at the $65 level I am happy. Manual, would be nice for the ME.262 but not a deal breaker. SDK, icing on the cake if it happens. Since "Microsim" days, and flying the first Longbow sim, and Falcon series, I just care for the fidelity and the airframes, ED should deliver. Happy guy. Thanks to everyone else not mentioned or involved behind the scenes to get it to this point. -
I only picked the ME 262 manual as a physical reward, mainly as a neat addition. If it doesn't get done, no worries. If it does, icing on the cake.

Thank you!

More concerned about whether or not the P51D crosses over, then I can select two ME 262s!!!!! Give one to a friend, that is why I would like it cleared up. It is confusing, and most all the posts don't really clear it up. But, again, no rush, just waiting around till we get the definitive answer.

Thank you . . . awesome, stunning. In a word, Yay! -
So true . . . I feel better all ready!

Hmmm, you guys are kinda freaking me out. All I know is, I have played various titles by these guys over the years, and they are light years ahead of the consumerist grind many of the other developers/titles put out. I think we just need to be patient, and all will be fine
