  1. Any GTX680 will do. Don't bother for factory overclocked cards, you can overclock it yourself if needed. With the AMD phenom II X4 965 CPU the video card will be plenty fast because the CPU will be the bottleneck. No need to worry about PCIE 2.0 or 3.0, as written by SkateZila above. What I have meant is that you can move this new and expensive GTX680 that you are planning to buy in a new computer later on, when you will retire the current computer.
  2. My dear "Inventor", Please invent a way to make an existing legacy 1.5 million lines C++ code run more efficiently by using 4-8 cores and you have hit the Jackpot. You will be very rich and famous by solving a problem that the greatest computer science minds of our time still cannot solve. Good luck, A humble Software Architect and Programmer

DCS A10C is my favorite sim. It is the best military aircraft simulation that I know of. I have also paid for P51 which is great and recently for Combined Arms. But as much as I like ED my conclusion so far is that the Combined Arms module should be still in beta... So wait some more for CA...
  4. Get the highest Nvidia card you are willing to pay for. Probably the best would be a GTX680. You did not mention the CPU model, but overclock that CPU because it will be the bottleneck after you upgrade the video card. CPU will still be the bottleneck even if you overclock it to 4.5 GHz for example. The new video card can be easily moved to a new PC when you will upgrade later. For the new PC get a Intel i7 3770K if you can and overclock it. Intel has a clear dominance now in performance for high end CPUs.
  5. You will get more FPS for sure with an i7 3770K. Problem is that the motherboard must be upgraded as well... so overall it is expensive. On the other hand you can simply limit the FPS to 30 in DCS and get a decent flying without stuttering (the FPS changes are annoying; nothing wrong with 30 IMHO). I have mine limited to 30 and I like it.
  6. Most likely your VM Ware does not provide DirectX at all. I think none of the virtualization solutions does except Microsoft Hyper-V. But anyway DCS is way too demanding to run on a virtual PC with the current state of technology.
  7. With that hardware DCS P51 should run very well. How many monitors and what resolution?
  8. Most CPUs are x64 bit, so it is just a matter of upgrading Windows. It is well worth it because 64-bit allows programs to use more memory.
  9. Great movie! Thank you! DCS: Naval Warfare will come eventually :)
  10. Even when they will upgrade OR to 2x1920x1080 with a good video card it will work fine because resolution is not that high. My system handles 5 monitors at 30 fps steady.
  11. Yes, that is what I use and it is good enough.
  12. Use the autopilot, it is a great deal of help when you are busy targeting.
  13. The SSD will reduce the initial load time considerably but it will not improve FPS.
  14. By mistake I have put 5 stars on the multi player mission... As I have done only the single player I have tried to rate 5 stars on the single but it does not work, the web page rating does not work (it does nothing when clicking on 5th star). http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/304018/
  15. I have done the mission a couple of times, thank you Bahger! 5 stars in the mission download page from me.
  16. EIIs228, great video, thank you!
  17. The activation program must run as an administrator; it is called by the DCS launcher. Try running Launcher.exe from Windows Explorer with "Run as administrator". Give it time to run, it may take a while. If it still does not work, try one more: I think the activation program is called dcs_protect.exe. Run this program with "Run as administrator". Windows 8 has worst UAC, that cannot be disabled. Expect all sorts of problems...
  18. I use Win8 x64 and I have updated to 1.2.3. Works very well. Make sure you run DCS as an administrator. Also disable the ridiculous User Account Control.
  19. Go to CA missions.
  20. I have 116.8 FOV.
  21. STP Dragon please find attached a track that shows that tanks cannot find their way, even I have tried to set the path very reasonably. The last tanks in the column got stuck on the bridge. Tanks cannot find their way.trk
  22. I hope ED will fix the AI soon... as it is now my convoy of tanks got stuck on the first bridge :(
  23. Go for 2G VRAM, even for one monitor. Nvidia seems to work better for me than AMD. Even for lots of monitors/pixels I would not go for more than 2G. I am using 5 monitors on a GTX680 2G with 5360x3120 total resolution. See attached screenshot (edited because Helios cannot be captured as 3D because it is 2D; also repositioned the instruments). If you click and then Save As you can download the full 4960x4000 image. Helios instruments do not show the same values as the HUD because the Helios screenshot was done separately.
  24. Thank you nd1312!
