DCS is a very demanding program, like any decent flight simulator. Ideally there should be no other program running when DCS runs. Just close all programs before your start DCS, including those from system tray. Check with Task Manager and kill eventual stubborn programs.
-
In my case I did not read properly what the program was asking for in the activation form. Make sure you provide the CA key for CA activation and P51 key for P51.

Yes, I have forgotten about the new 3D monitors, they can do more than 60. I will try limiting to 30 FPS.

"PATROL BY FORCE": SP/MP mission for A-10C
Sorin replied to Bahger's topic in User Created Missions General
Thank you Bahger, very generous of you to help a beginner. But I am the stubborn kind that I like to learn by myself. Actually I enjoy the learning. I will work on JTAC and CDU data entry and maybe I will ask some questions here. In the meantime your mission is going to be available for download. -
Eddie, I have meant to adjust the fuel quantity on board before the mission. Less fuel, less weight, better flying. It should be possible but I have never tried it.

"PATROL BY FORCE": SP/MP mission for A-10C

Sounds great Bahger! Maybe too difficult for me but I will try it out, thank you. -
Also takeoff with 30% fuel.

Nvidia 314.22 March 25th WHQL release
Sorin replied to Quirkitized's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Installed it and it works, no problems detected but no increase in performance either. Win 8 x64 GTX680. -
Benargee, to answer your original question: is it the GPU or CPU? It is both... or maybe none of them. Your track contains too many light sources in the 3D scene which totally kills the performance. Plus a lot of 3D objects and triangles. Maybe both CPU and GPU get overwhelmed. None of them shows 100% usage, not even the active CPU core. That is because there are other parameters causing the slowdown. Problem is that they are very hard to measure and record in real time. My guesses are: RAM-VRAM transfer rate, rendering process latencies, RAM speed...

Ethereal these are my details: CPU: Q9450 3.9 GHz GPU: GTX680 2G VRAM System RAM: 8G OS: Win 8 x64 Attached the settings for DCS, 3D and the FPS chart. I have limited to 60 FPS in DCS; I see no reason to be more because all LCD monitors cannot do more than 60 FPS anyway. The FPS average at 36 it is great IMHO considering the pixels involved. Probably after I upgrade my old CPU/MB will get to 40-45. This is Benchmark.trk that you have tested for me. I have tried your track but that one is smoked :) Thanks again for your valuable input.
-
Thanks EtherealN for your analysis; it mirrors my findings. I think the attached track would be more suitable for a simple benchmark (only 80 seconds). It is done with F11 camera but it may be close enough to a helicopter flight. There is no need to change camera, just play and avoid any input. We should try to make a track that is demanding but reasonable. Benchmark.trk

Similar to this but in outside view: try Ben's "benchmark" track on F5 camera and see what lots of light sources in the 3D scene do to your FPS... http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=102857 I am not sure if this is a bug or it is normal.

Stumped by cpu/gpu fps drop mid flight
Sorin replied to gavagai's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Try flying somewhere without water and see if the FPS drops as well. Also try an empty plain vs a busy city. For the water quality it definitely changes after options change on my system. But I keep it on low anyway. -
Stumped by cpu/gpu fps drop mid flight
Sorin replied to gavagai's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Gavagai please read this thread http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=102857 We should establish a benchmark procedure with proper instrumentation so we can find and fix problems. -
This would be great. Forget about sharing, we settle for less ED :)

AngryBird please try Ben's track on F5 camera and let us know the results. Preferably measured with Fraps. What monitor resolution do you use?
-
Download the whole DCS and all modules that you have. Quite a big download but that should work. Then install DCS first and then the modules. It should upgrade your system to 1.2.3.

The replay does repeat what you have done but it is F2 camera which is affected by the mouse (any mouse movement during the replay changes the camera angle). We must have a reproducible camera, that is not affected by accidental mouse movement. Also F2 is too close to the aircraft. F5 shows much more and it is more demanding. As an example F2 does 23 FPS average while F5 camera does 9 on my system (measured with Fraps, one monitor 2560x1600, GTX680, 3.9GHz CPU, 8G RAM, SSD). Try F5 and then tell me about slow... As a compensation you get to see the SAM kill one of the A-10C and the pilot parachute :) Anyway, let's find another track for benchmark because this one is not good. The drastic FPS drop that happens when the engines start is not due to the sound or engines simulation, it is due to the landing lights (on the nose wheel). Having so many light sources in the 3D scene totally kills the FPS.

Ben, I have tried your track but to make a benchmark from it we must agree on a camera to use. I recommend F5 camera. So basically we do these steps: start replay, Ctr-Y twice to remove the status bar and then press F5. Next would be to record the FPS, CPU usage (all cores), GPU usage, GPU memory, system memory, etc. Minimum FPS and average FPS should be shown as well. Ideally all the parameters should be plotted on the same chart. That is something I cannot do right now but I will figure a way because we must have a benchmark for DCS and a proper way to record all the details. Of course all parameters in hardware, DCS options, the video card 3D settings, the operating system, display resolution, etc must be the same so we compare apples with apples - but that is impossible. So we should just list our details so it is at least known what we have and what are the results. We have to come up with a table format to report the hardware parameters and software configuration. So far I do not have results as mentioned above but preliminary on my Windows XP 64-bit the performance is quite lame, it gets to 6 FPS sometimes. I will post some proper results soon.

Mouse is the only solution I can see working so far with Oculus. Trackball even better IMHO. My current setup is trackball based. I don't care for a touchscreen monitor for the cockpit although I could easily get one instead of the current normal monitor. I guess I am a fan of a "DeskPit". HOTAS plus trackball, good enough for me.

Background for indicator exports
Sorin replied to Weltensegler's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
It does not drop FPS more than 2-3 on my system. Well worth it because it gives me a full cockpit while I keep all of the view outside area. -
Why would kill the immersion? As long as you see only the virtual reality no immersion is lost. Or you think about viewing the mouse cursor (cross) in the image? There has to be a way to interact with the computer. Mouse is one of the best here because it does not require to look at it; keyboard does not qualify.

Background for indicator exports
Sorin replied to Weltensegler's topic in Utility/Program Mods for DCS World
Please find attached the files for all exports with background. They have to be placed in C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Mods\aircrafts\A-10C\Cockpit\Scripts (make sure you backup your original files). These are only the .lua scripts that were modified to show a black background under the original export (as per Weltensegler's method). The exports itself are done with the known method, very well explained in this forum. Scripts.zip -
Please ED, give us control of the map for multimonitor systems...

Benargee, you must have Win7 64 bit and DCS World 64 bit. You do, right? Can you post here your mission file? I will try your benchmark on my system.
