OT: Which OS do you use for gaming?
brewber19 replied to Aeroscout's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I could agree with most of your post but I strongly disagree with your last paragraph. I believed all the negativity about Vista but having seen on this forum how much extra FPS Vista users get on BS I thought "what the hell" and bought Vista x64. My experience of Vista is excellent so far, my only niggle is audio which seems a bit "tinny" compared to XP and needs some further investigation from me. I think people dislike Vista because they dont have the time, effort or skills to investigate and resolve a problem. XP was no different in its immaturity, nor was Win 98 (Win ME was a complete joke though!) I have E6600 (oclocked to 3Ghz), 8800GTX, 4Gb ram and X-fi Fatality, so very similar to you..and I am getting 40-70fps in BS at 1920*1200 res (no AA, 16AF) with textures high, vis range medium, scenes high, water medium. Sure, on other games XP might outperform Vista (if I'm honest I haven't checked) but to get a 25% increase in FPS in BS just by changing OS and adding a bit of ram....sign me up! Too many people have shifted to Vista and made use of the multicore thing for your last paragraph to be a reasonable recommendaton...I would recommend completely the opposite if they spend a significant amount of time playing BS. -
Hi All, I've tried everything I can think of to have static icons invisible in the F10 World Map view. I have no problem hiding normal units...but no combination of settings that I have tried so far as been able to stop static icons appearing in F10. Any/all help appreciated as it's pretty hard to design a "Search & Destroy" mission (with statics for Tents as an example) if no-one needs to search! Thanks in advance, Brewber (Frustrated mission designer)

I have a similar issue...in that everything I do to stop enemy static icons from appearing in F10 fails :( I wonder if we're either both missing how to do it ("operator error) or whether it just can't be done in BS like it could in LOFC? I'll have a play tonight to see if I can help though.

Bloody good question!
-
Me too ;) Vista x64 with a E6600 o/c to 3Ghz, 4Gb of ram and a GF8800GTX = excellent frames at 1920x1200.
-
Vista x64 works good - I changed from XP 32bit to Vista 64bit, added another 2Gb of RAM and now BS works beautifully. I get at least a 50% improvement in Vista over XP...some of which is use of CPU cores and some I am sure is due to the extra RAM. I am on a Core 2 Duo E6600 o/clocked from 2.4Ghz to 3.02Ghz, GeForce 8800GTX, 4Gb of PC8500 ram, Raptor HD.

Need help with new CH fighter stick setup
brewber19 replied to emenance's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Quoted For TRUTH! I have CH Fighterstick, Throttle and Pedals and Shrubbo describes exactly the thoughts of someone (like I did) putting away my Saitek shiny shiny toys and picking up some decent hardware. Two years later and more hours of use than I am prepared to ever admit...still in great shape. Buy CH...you can't go wrong. I would only buy CH in future (I've used Saitek X45, X52, pedals and stock Cougar....never again). -
Hi EB, Thanks for the reply, and I take it that its not possible to simply dip the cannon elevation as we would with the gun pods on the Su-25. The default boresight mode sets the elevation very high, I presume in perfect alignment with the longitudinal axis of the helicopter, but that means you need a steep "ingress" when close to targets for strafing. Back to practising some descending crashes in to soft targets then ;) Thanks again, Brewber.

That is a VERY nicely done skin.
-
Hi All, Does anyone know if its possible to change the cannon elevation without it "ground stabilising" via the Shkval? I'd basically like to set my cannon to a "lower" boresight so I can do a level cannon-strafe of a convoy...which I can't do eaily in normal boresight or when when the Shkval is ground stabilised. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance. Brewber.

Thanks Moose, I'll have a hunt for that when I get back to my main PC - tricky little business this skinning isn't it?! Nice work on your skin and kudos for the help.
-
Hi Moose, Nice skin; I am working on one of my own but I'm really struggling to find where I can change the colour of the parts of the top of the rotor mast. I am fine changing the lower rotor components and central column etc...just the top bit, which on yours you have coloured red. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. kind regards Brewber.

hardly readable text in cockpit - textures
brewber19 replied to JaBoG32_Prinzartus's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Aren't you guys missing the GFX option for Cockpit...where you can choose 512, or 1024 per frame etc. Have you tried messing with those settings? I have 1024 per frame selected and my pit is crystal clear. Or is it just that ONE texture and the rest of the pit is fine? If just that one texture that would indicate a corrupt texture maybe? -
My thanks also...and that's why we bought the RU download, the EN download and I'll probably end up getting the DVD. I have finally had a chance to dash around the skies, I've used Glowing Amraams sound mod, and now that I've discovered Flight Director, its like a whole new heli. Excellent work...just need to get Vista 64bit to get my frames up (damn my poor E6600).

I could have sworn we were close to Christmas...not April 1st! Seriously...are you nuts?

I think the OP makes a valid point, in that the most valuable type of training is experiential learning... Explanation >> Demonstration >> Imitation The current ED products can't do this, which is unfortunate but not a show-stopper. It just means the training tracks can be more challenging to learn from than a 'follow my example and we won't continue until you hit the right button' style of tutorial but...it is what it is as they say. I am hoping the OP was misunderstood because otherwise the tone of responses to this thread are discouraging to say the least :( I appreciate the testers might be sensitive to less than "woohoo" feedback but would hope that constructive criticism, which is what has been offered in the OP, can be accepted with good grace? EDIT: Damn it, bloody EvilB and a few others snuck in some constructive positive posts while I was mashing mine out on the keyboard...so I modify what I said and say the initial replies were destructive.

CH Fighterstick, CH Throttle and CH Pedals for me. I've had Saitek...nice for the price, but CH is better...they just cost more. I think my pedals are finally dying after 3 years of abuse so I might have to get the screwdriver out to see what the prob is. Cougar I've also had and I just couldn't get on with it. Too heavy, too clunky, too imprecise (this was a stock cougar). Edit: I wish I had never eBay'd my MS FFB2 joystick...it was a brilliant stick, especially for IL2 etc.

What level of flight mode do you use?
brewber19 replied to wolfast's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Quoted For Truth Couldn't have put it better myself. -
For that kind of benefit to fps its almost worth me upgrading to Vista! I average about 25 down to 15 when the action hots up. I run: 1x Intel Core2Duo E6600 overclocked ffrom 2.4Ghx to 3.0Ghz 2Gb ram 1x GeForce 8800GTX Creative X-Fi 24" Dell monitor My game settings are different to yours. Everything on High, 1024 res for cockpit and 1920x1200 resolution (native res is best for LCDs).

2 campaign for DCS BS English versions - ONLY FOR XP!!!
brewber19 replied to zika1234's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Because Vista sucks and blows? Sorry; cheap shot I just couldn't resist. -
I've just read up on ALchemy and it only makes a difference on Vista...is that correct?
-
Nice work Bucic ;) I'm interested...guess I'm the only person in the world with an X-fi card :D
-
Mitch, That is beautifully done; I've only done one skin...ever...in my sig and it took me 45 hours to do. I don't know how you do them so quickly but I sure appreciate this one...it'll save me a job reproducing my favourite colour scheme ;)
