Question on Su25T TV displaying buildings
brewber19 replied to mibsk's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Not to my knowledge but I'm hoping a guru like TekaTeka will pop in and explain to us noobs how we can tweak the config files to amend that. I feel the same way, I'd like to see building froms at least 15km rather than 6-8-10km. Fingers crossed for ya (and me ;)) -
Shame, unpaved runways would have been excellent fun for us Frog drivers to do some challenging 'finals' and stuff. Am looking forward to BS, am a chopper fan, so BS will be great for me, I can fly my Frog or my....er...Shark (was hoping to rhyme there but...doh!) If the new ME comes off I have huge hopes for more interesting ground scenarios, like terrain denial, proper penetration strikes that would actually mean something, stuff like that.

Do convoys behave like this in "Real Life" ??
brewber19 replied to Zoltar's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Ah, the balanced view of a pure A2A virtual pilot :( As others have mentioned, us "poorer cousins" who move mud strongly disagree with that statement. The AI is as dumb as ditch water and needs as much attention to improve ground attack simulation just as chaff/missile behaviour needs attention to improve the A2A experience. Remember, there are at least two parts to this sim, A2A and A2G, where you fighter ppl simulate air dominance and we bomber people simulate terrain control. Without us your mission would be pointless...and without you our mission would be unachievable - I believe they call it "synergy"...or "mutual support". Given some of your recent posts, a more balanced view point might get more positive and constructive feedback, or have more people support your point of view! -
Black Shark Update, 16 September 2007
brewber19 replied to Wags's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Hi Gozr, I'm sorry but I disagree with your view that these improvements, little or big, would dramatically increase the client base of LockOn, online or offline...or combat flight simulation games in general (without restarting the debate of sim vs game). Although we see a constant drip-feed of people new to lockon, which I think is excellent, this isn't down to feature creep necessarily, but the fact that people tried LO when it first came out, had a rig that caved under the CPU load, and only recently decided to re-try it with a newer rig. My point being...these aren't people new to the genre, they are people who are giving it a second go...and not directly as a result of features (bug fixes may be but...). Am I looking forward to BS? Yes, I am keen to fly it. Am I disappointed it won't add anything to the Su-25/T (which I fly exclusively at the moment)? No, not really. BS is about BS, not the other stuff. Am I thrilled to hear about other developments like the mission editor? Hell yes, cos LO:FC editor is frustratingly tedious for designing server/online missions (arrrrgggh the repitition of adding fecking client planes and waypoints). Your biggest request seems to be turbulence/weather/environmental dynamics and immersion. We already have a degree of wind behaviour in LO, albeit not sophisticated, but...is it really more important than: the AI ground vehicles behaving like retards mission editor requiring 1000 clicks to put 12 player a/c in an online mission new terrain mesh and textures for a more realistic low-level experience many other things we can all think of.I appreciate this issue is important to you, and everyone's issue is important to them, but...can you please let it go? Its pretty clear from previous posts in this thread that it isn't other peoples priority either, nor will in radically increase sales/revenue for ED, else they would be doing it so please....let it go. Brewber out. EDIT: Wags, thanks for info, I'm sure we're all disappointed that it all takes time but...I am equally sure we will all appreciate the product when it arrives. I am thrilled to bits to hear the ME is getting revamped/redesigned, cos the current FC one removes my will to live if I am having to create a 12 a/c strike mission for my bomber wing, and terrain etc is getting improved. I sincerely hope that hitting things like trees and powerlines will damage the BS and that we can't fly through stuff like that...and that the AI can't see us through the terrain etc...but I am sure the team has considered these things already :) Keep up the hard work, but please don't make BS the next "Duke Nukem Forever" ;) -
Yeah, was a good show on Saturday....Su-30 was..."ok", he didnt do much but a couple of fly-bys and then disappeared. Thunderbirds were pretty good but..I dunno if they were restricted by UK display rules or the weather...not as impressed as I was expecting given all the hype. Red Arrows were excellent (and yes, I AM partisan), as were the Frecce Tricolor (just love their narrators style and enthusiasm). The stars of the show for me were: F-16 from the Netherlands Chinook (stunning display of agility and a/c control, just amazing) Typhoons (spanish and uk, noise was phenomenal) RAF "mission" finale Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (3 Spits and 1 Hurricane) Red Arrows (inc. their initial flight past in a vic with the BBMF in the middle Frecce Tricolore 'Twas a good day, got wet through and sun-burnt in the same goddamn day, but was excellent fun (as we met up with Smudge and Wolfie from the 504 as well). Heartily recommend RIAT to anyone who is considering it.

is this forum getting better or getting worse?
brewber19 replied to Civil_Genius's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I used to visit every day but now, once a week (twice at best) and I rarely post unless someone is asking for help or giving my squad mates a hard time (I'm not one for posting much anyways unless I have something to say). Is the forum better or worse? I'd say its worse now than 12 months ago BUT...I do see a continuous "supply" of new or returning players (given the crap state of 1.0 and 1.02 etc, its no wonder ppl waited 2 years for a better PC before reinstalling I reckon), which is a positive thing. I know we (504) get a reasonable supply of new talent and we've tweaked our training programs to get them up to speed faster. The BS announcement is sure to generate alot of traffic, but I'd bet a months salary it'll spawn tens of bitching/whining threads as well, since that is the form of almost all forums sadly. Personally I am looking forward to BS whenever it arrives, it will revitalise my interest in LOMAC etc, and I have learnt to just ignore the bitch/whine/combative posts of those members I have grown to dislike over the years so...we'll see what July brings ;) (July is big month for game announcements for me, what with BS and Supreme Commander etc...just wish there was some news on BoB2) -

brewber19 replied to Civil_Genius's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Ahem.... HELL YES I'm interested!!!!! Is that a loud enough endorsement?! That looks fantastic, I would give an arm and a leg for that (well ok, not my arm or leg but...you get the point ;)). Count me in please. -

brewber19 replied to Civil_Genius's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
lol, same happened to me a few months ago...one minute I had a sig, the next minute it was blank, or said something like "moderator removed sig". Was a bit pissed at the time but it made me do a new sig so...life moves on I guess. As for BS, that Apache pic looked sweet indeed so, hoping for some good news re: BS...I'm struggling to maintain enthusiasm for LO at the moment, even with our new training syllabus so, can't wait for something new and exciting. PS: Rugg: How the hell is your sig as big as 49.xKb when mine is only 16Kb? -
MiG-29 landing on carrier deck. I did it. Can you? VIDEO.
brewber19 replied to DPS's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I've managed a vanilla landing on the Kuz....it wasnt pretty but...got her down. The 25T is nice and straight forward too. Dunno about the migs and stuff, guess its challenging also. As soon as I repair my rig I might have to give it another go, cos it sure is fun ;) Nice one DPS, anyone who gives it a go at least gets a thumbs up from me. -
LOCERF Mission Planning and Dates
brewber19 replied to Woodstock's topic in User Created Missions General
Can Vent's key bindings not cope with more than one key press? I want to use LSHIFT and CAPSLOCK to whisper to all channels but...Vent doesnt want to seem to play. I also want to use LSHIFT + NUM1-9 for channel switching but...I guess I'm doing something wrong again?! Thanks in advance for any help. -
I'm amazed anyone thinks its hard to kill tanks with the A-10...its gun is like a laser beam. Try it in a Frog and see how you like it...(I like it just fine). Its been a while since I counted but I can normally kill a T80 with two 1/2 second burst...and can remove about 10+ T80s with full internal gun. With gunpods, not so accurate due to dispersion...or I get ALOT closer ;) Am happy to post a track or something but I am sure I can take out 10 T80s with internal gun only...but very rarely will I kill them on a single pass though! It depends on the aim, minimum ammo per kill, or maximum effect with minimum passes. Good discussion though, nice to seem some good 'ole A2G fun. Nice post OP.

Beyond BS any flight sim that wants to have 'legs' will need to make use of multicore (not just dual-core) and properly support widescreen. Both are now in "common" usage and by the time the next new product reaches market most "gamers" will be on dual-core/multi-core. You can understand why LOMAC doesn't support multicore because they were new and their popularity uncertain, same with widescreen, but now they are adopted, they become the 'baseline' to reach. I also considered DX10 being a 'must' but on reflection I think it would be a 'nice to have'. I just don't see enough people being on Vista (or DX ported to XP) to make DX10 effort worth it but...as always I am prepared to be wrong (just my opinion, not based on any specific facts/info). Can you imagine how good a sim would be if it has multiple cores to use for flight model, damage model, AI routines etc etc? Anyways, I personally hope future products support multicore and widescreen so I can get the best out of my investments ;)

Ah, if you're not the host then its 50/50 whether the tracks play back ok....basically when recording tracks as a 'client' its very hit and miss as to the quality of the "recording". Unfortunately if you want reliable playback from online missions you need to be the host....in my experience anyways.

Any chance you could find the original thread/post....I had a look for all of Ruggs threads but couldnt find the one I'm interested in. Thanks in advance...any help seeing ground objects is useful ;)

Remember the golden rule about communities.... every village has one! (and for those with a double-figure IQ who don't get the joke, or if it doesn't translate....I mean "idiot"...every village has an idiot!) Look up Viper on Wikipedia...Viper = muppet :noexpression:

Agree with EscCtrl....you've just trivialised hundreds of hours of hard practice, patience, mid-air collisions no doubt, and much more. You're right, flying 1-2 metre apart in a roughly straight line or gentle (30 degree) banked turns is fairly straightforward (with practice) but you can't compare that to the quality the virtual air display teams achieve....and some of us in the 504 know...cos we've spent a bit of time practicing ;) Following planned standard flight paths maybe but I would not reduce all the work, time and effort some of these squads put into their routines to nothing in a single sentance. Watch some videos by IAT, the virtual blue angels or some similar squad (as you most likely have) and try convincing yourself it's still easy. :P

Hi Trooper, Do you fly fighters or bombers? The reason I ask is that if you fly bombers you do not want to use anti-aliasing. I'm sure I shouldn't share this but...its much easier for bomber pilots if no AA is used...that way the sneaky bast&^d stinger/strela can be seen as a flashing black pixel from a decent distance away...same with any ground unit. If you're a fighter guy then I can't say what effect AA has or doesn't have, but I would assume it would be similar to ground-pounding where its preferable to have AA off...or very low. As for anisotropic filtering (AF), I have mine set to the highest my gfx card can do (x16 I think) as it doesn't have a huge impact on performance but improves the appearance of runways and suchlike. When I had my older rigs (with a GF6800 ultra and the other with a GF7900 GT) I did the same thing, no AA and high AF. I'd be interested if others have a contrary opinion since I'm always looking to get the best out of my kit. Currently I have a C2Duo E6600 o/clocked from 2.4 to 3.02Ghz, with 2Gb of 8500 ram, 2 raptor HDs and a GF8800 GTX OC2...its fantastic and I get about 30fps on the ground and anything up to 120 in the air...for the first time I have a rig that comfortably runs LO. I would agree with the other poster than 2Gb of ram will be of significant benefit. Good luck with whatever you invest in, LO is an expensive mistress isn't she?!!!

Hi Jex, Try PMing a guy called Deadman or 44th_Deadman (I think), he's pretty clued up on skins and is very likely to have virgin versions of the nomera files....or a better clue of how to help. Sorry I can't help, its months since I did any skinning and I'm at my work PC atm :( Good luck ;)

Hi Aeroscout, I'm sure you would benefit from joining any squadron. As Tek said, the two most important things you should consider from a squad are: 1) Are you in a close enough timezone for the majority of squad events and 2) Do you enjoy the company/cameraderie of the squad members. I would say these are far more important than the A/C the squadron fly. The 504th exclusively fly Russian jets and we have a fighter wing (FW) and bomber wing (BW), with both wings operating a 4-part training syllabus (each part has about 6 sessions + a checkride), as well as fun missions and Red Flag with the 44th. We also participate in intersquad matches (more a FW thing than BW). If you are interested in flying Russian a/c and can participate in events between 1800Z and 2200Z, then please visit our air-to-air or air-to-ground servers and make sure you're on Teamspeak ;) I occasionally visit the A2G server but if you'd like to arrange a flight just PM me. I am not available Tuesday or Thursday evening from 1900-2100Z as these are our regular training slots. regards Brewber

Yeah, as soon as I saw it was G2 games I decided not to buy it. Why? Because when they released BoB2 as a rehash of BoB1, it was just godawful...so, after that experience my belief is G2 games simply do exactly as you stated...release a rehashed version of a great game, don't add anything (in fact, make it worse), and just take the money and run. I won't buy anything G2 chooses to publish in future...period.

Planning my new badass machine.
brewber19 replied to Pilotasso's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
A quad is useful for other things besides LOMAC and video encoding....Supreme Commander to name (an important) one (to me). Having said that I'm upgrading from an X2 4400 to a C2D 6600 with the plan to o/clock it...am hoping to see an improvement in SupComm and it can't hurt lomac either ;) Nice choices Pilotasso...I was toying with getting the Q6600 but decided on a E6600 until the next price drop in August-ish....where the Q6600 should come down again in price (they dropped in April from £580 to £335 but...still a little pricey compared to the E6600 at £145 or whatever it was). Enjoy your new rig, whatever you end up getting, and I hope you feel the benefits from your investment like the rest of us always hope to ;) (P.S. Nice to see another SupComm player ;) shame they dropped DX10 development...guess its just Crysis that'll encourage me to go to Vista <sigh>) -
Excellent work, beautiful, its now my desktop wallpaper...and that's an achievement! (I usually care less about wallpaper and have a plain bg colour but...you've caught my attention ;)) If you have any more (of the Frog) then please post them :D

I'm not sure I understand the question?! Do you mean "where the hell are these bits on the template...so I can change the colour!" ? And I assume you're using the Photoshop templates from ED's site yes? PS: I like the skins BTW ;)

I still think its fricking hilarious him trying to teach Zorlac about LO servers...LMFAO...ok, no-one knows everything, not even our Z but...this thread had me laughing all the way through. @ Groove: we know Wolverine of old :) and he knows us VERY well so, like him, LMFAO. @ Wolverine: greetings matey, good to see you around, hope the nippers are fine. @ Zorlac: Don't you DARE change a thing...ignore the Crazies and don't smoke what he's smoking. I love our servers, they're fine, just as they are!

Help: server disconnects when firing a weapon...
brewber19 replied to brewber19's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
LOL @ Eric, I know the feeling, thanks for the thought though ;) Rugg - thanks for the heads up, I have a feeling its related to the Saitek pedals and having W mapped to toe brake but...bloody frustrating as you can imagine...40mins to target and POOF! debrief screen <sigh> Guess I'll have to spend some time (that I really don't have atm) to look in to it...the only other thing I can think of is that I recently had a prob where the TIR wouldn't install correctly (known issue, reg hack required to fix) and I wonder if IT is somehow involved. I dunno, life's too short atm so what little play time I have might be spent doing other things. Thanks for the help peeps, 'tis much appreciated.
