I realised the other day that I've never bought an AMD card. I've always had Nvidia cards since I bought a Riva TNT 2 off a friend in the early 2000's. The only bad one I ever had was an FX5200 (cheap and rubbish). After that I think they pretty much hit a home run with every series up to the 400 Fermi's which weren't much faster than the 200 series and the 480 ran hot and loud. As they were the first DX11 cards though, they were alright. I have to say that I'm dissapointed in the 700 series though. The 780Ti should have come out instead of the Titan for ~£500 and the regular 780 should have been released soon after for around £320 in my opinion. All Nvidia have done with the 700 series is create a new 'ultra enthusiast' tier and delayed the launch of their regular flagship cards. I remember when the top, fully unlocked card running the fastest clocks cost around £450 and the slightly cut down version was around £300. Now it's £800(Titan) and £550(780Ti). Thanks Nvidia. Because of this I have bought a GTX 770, which is really the last generation flagship 680 with a slight over clock. Still, for £216 I felt the price was reasonable.

Fair enough. I'm always partial to a bit of AAR though so I'd probably leave mine on! When we get this bird and if it's at the same level of detail as the other DCS aircraft, I'll never want to land it!

I'd much rather have something more modern than a variant of the Mustang. Give me a multirole fighter though and you can have whatever you want! Saying that, I can't see it happening. With all the WW2 stuff on it's way already I'm hoping that ED will shift their focus onto the Vietnam era and beyond. We have choppers, we have ground pounders and we'll soon have a decent selection of warbirds. What DCS really needs is new terrain and a nice selection of fast jets (and no, FC3 doesn't count).

Haha. Some great Chinese whispers going on in here!

$500 to spend. GPU or Warthog?
howie87 replied to dogslax41's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Definitely the warthog. I've had one for a year now and only just upgraded from a 560Ti to a GTX 770. The warthog was without a doubt the bigger upgrade for DCS. Maybe IF (I've stopped saying when) EDGE comes out things might be different. -
Ah well, no bonus for me even though I own everything. On the bright side, I had my discounts in the sales and there's nothing left for me to buy now anyway. WE WANT EDGE! WE WANT NEVADA! WE WANT DCS:F/A-18C!

Such a shame that idiots ruin it for the rest!

The one thing that worries me about the Mig-21 is why put an announcement out stating that it will absolutely be released in the last week of March, then a week later say that the whole project could be shelved? Even if the team is back on track, I would like to know if this 'absolute' release date still stands?

They are terrible! Flying online last night, lead dropped a GBU-38 and I dropped a GBU-12 a few seconds later. My GBU-12 reached a terminal velocity of around 550 knots and impacted BEFORE the GBU-38 which was floating down at around 250 knots. Now, I know the aerodynamics for the GBU-38/31 use a simplified flight model but surely they could be improved? It can mean the difference between your bomb hitting a Stela or the Strela hitting you before the slow ass, gravity defying bomb reaches its target.

Now I'm excited again... Hopefully I'll be able to stage my very own 'Have Doughnut' over the skies of Nevada Soon

Apparently buying flaming cliffs for $39.99 while it was still in Beta doesn't qualify as full price :( Now I'm paying the price for being a cheapskate. All my DCS purchases were in the sales!

It depends on what resolution you're playing at but like I said, I wouldn't go slower than a GTX 680. Go for a 770, 780, 780Ti or Titan depending on your budget. Here in the UK you can get a 770 for ~£240, a 780 for ~£360, a 780Ti for ~£520 or a Titan for ~£800. 2GB is fine for 1080p. 3GB for 1440p and 4-6GB will be fine for 4k, although you'd probably need to go SLI to get good frame rates at that resolution.
-
I'd say go for a GTX 680 or above. Got my 770 for £215.99 which is a great price. The only slight worry I have is that it's the 2GB version. The 4GB ones were £300+ but then you're getting close to 780 prices. For 1920x1080 though a 770 will be fine.

Your RPM was probably too low for your manifold pressure. Running low RPM high manifold is a sure fire way to ruin your engine. Carb icing is not modeled.

What was your learning process for this aircraft?
howie87 replied to Pajeezy's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I'd say get online and find someone to teach you. I learned 10x more from flying with more knowledgeable pilots than just from reading the manual alone. -
Thanks for taking the time to prove what most of us were already saying Viper. I appreciate hard data much more than the "I have X number of hours flying X aircraft so I know everything" rubbish that expert was chatting.

I think expert is just trolling. Maybe he actually believes what he's saying but somehow I doubt it. I'll test when I get home and put this thread to rest.

I also read that the mirage 3 was front heavy due to the need for static stability. The greatly affected its manoeuvrability. The M2000 shifted the entire COG aft because the FBW system could constantly keep in within controlled flight parameters while being inherently unstable by design. This also allows it to achieve a much higher AoA while still being controllable.

I thought the refuelling probe was a feature of all M2000's?
-
Hmm... I wonder why nobody else has ever noticed any of these things. I think you might be imagining them expert.
-
Can't say I noticed the sun affects IR missiles. Done plenty of tests in 1.2.7 also. I really hope someone from ED steps in here and corrects our resident expert...

Can't wait for this and the MiG-21. I hope by the end of this year we will finally be able to dogfight in high fidelity fast jets. Throw in a consumer release of the oculus rift and I'll never leave the house again!

Be interesting to see if you *could* land a M2000 on a carrier with the tail hook... I imagine you'd break the landing gear unless you had a very strong headwind and very little fuel/ordnance. This is why we need the hook in DCS! I love experimenting with things like this.

M-61 Vulcan and Gau-8 Avenger dispersion values
howie87 replied to Flagrum's topic in Bugs and Problems
Just seen this thread referenced in this one http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=1998855#post1998855 and wondered if there was any hope of a fix yet?
