  1. I was just messing around at finding bugs and avoiding SAM's and thought I'd post this track here for newbs. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=124312 Ignore the bit with me playing with dials for the first 30 seconds. The missile dodging comes soon after. I'm particularly proud of the touch and go within feet of a manpad!
  2. Haha, never noticed that before
  3. I've heard this mentioned before but not seen anything official. Where did ED say that they're adopting the iron curtain approach?
  4. I get the whole DCS time scale. Study sims in general have an extremely slow development cycle due to limited budgets, a niche market and the enormous complexity involved. That I can understand. I just don't get why we can't have an exciting video or something substantial to whet our appetite once in a while. It's like waiting for paint dry, but the paint never dries! There's the occasion snippet of promising news followed by months of silence and then the inevitable "sorry guys, maybe next year". Once in a while it all gets too much and too frustrating so I take the forums for a while before I calm down again and find something else to do.
  5. Sure, I've seen the very occasional screen shot. I haven't seen ANY in game video footage yet though. I'm not sure your definition of 'regular updates' and mine are the same. I count 3 screenshots and 3 sentences since January. It's depressing.
  6. Fair enough. I'm just frustrated that it's May now and the only hint of a release we have is from the March Newsletter which says "We are making great progress on implementing our new graphics engine into DCS version 1.3.0 later this year." I heard that before in 2011 and 2013.
  7. I just stumbled upon this post from 2011 http://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=1276096&postcount=19 Seriously, how is this taking so long?
  8. I find the KA-50 pretty hard to fight in. While it has automated functions, they're not incredibly well implemented and the whole package feels like more of a "proof of concept" rather than an advanced design with all the kinks worked out. I guess that's why single seat attack helicopters aren't exactly common.
  9. I couldn't help but notice in this picture: http://www.leatherneck-sim.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/screenshot_6.jpg All the cockpit textures look so crisp except for the low resolution numbers on the attitude indicator pitch scale... Is this area considered complete or still a WIP? I have a sharp eye for detail and am being extremely picky here!
  10. The Aardvark is still only a two seater as well, unlike the 4 required for the Bone. Not sure too many people would want to play the defensive systems operator roll in the back seat.
  11. Actually, the WCMD only uses INS.
  12. Yeah, read every page of the manual. Also, if you want to get good at dogfighting - install this: http://lomac.strasoftware.com/tacview-en.php
  13. F-111 for me. The thing is just damn sexy.
  14. In DCS it seems more important to get flares/chaff out sooner rather than at the last minute. The logic being that if a missile is far away when it locks onto chaff or a flare, it won't come anywhere near you. Also, from experience and through looking at tacview it seems to me that the closer a missile is, the less chance there is of it being spoofed by CMS. That's why I pump out a large amount as fast as I can. I'm talking 0.2 second intervals as soon as I get the heads up from the MWS. Understanding the trajectory of the missile is hugely important as well. If you're flying towards a missile and pumping out CMS, it probably won't help. You need to beam that sucker and get your eyes on it. Do everything you can to make it fly further, turn harder and bleed energy. If you're beaming it at 90 degrees and it's still heading straight for your canopy despite everything, consider a high G barrel roll as a last ditch avoidance manoeuvre.
  15. I don't know why but I just find the hind so, so ugly. Not Mi8 ugly, but close. The engines look like weird roof-boobs and it's all lumpy and bumpy. That's something universal about attack choppers that I find ugly though... They all have too many bits sticking out. Guess I just appreciate smooth lines and aerodynamics more than the 'badass' look.
  16. Sorry, but I'm looking forward to Nevada more than anything. That and more study sim modules. PFM's are a step in the right direction but only half way there. It's all about the clickable cockpit and full systems fidelity for me.
  17. I agree. I'd also like to only see weapons that were actually used by the MiG-21 be available to use. I don't want to see it dropping GBU-38's or anything silly.
  18. Just to reiterate my point about being generous with flares, with a standard loadout of 120 you can still defeat six missiles if you're putting out 20 at a time. Your odds of defeating all six are still pretty slim anyway, so don't be a cheap ass. Otherwise you'll end up with 118 flares and no wings.
  19. *Digital moving map display *Doesn't broadcast its airspeed in a dogfight through its wing position *Better high AoA performance *Single and dual seat variants *More air to ground capabilities I do love the F-14 as well though: *Longer range *Larger payload *Faster *More powerful radar *Better climb rate
  20. I think this should be posted right at the top of the community news if does turn out to be a scam...
  21. I'd LOVE to see an F/A-18D as well as the C model. Imagine just how awesome it would be as a training tool for squadrons. Start in the D model with an instructor and earn your wings before you get to fly solo in the C. Doubt it will happen though sadly.
  22. I'm interested to see how the Bis flies in comparison to the C model. For example, does it still suffer from severe transonic buffeting below 15,000ft and slow throttle response or were these issues designed out of the later models?
  23. "The MiG-21s would be embedded with a (MiG-27) Flogger for integral protection. There was a data link between the Flankers that was used to pass information" They're also MiG-21 bison, not bis.
  24. Seeing as we're getting lots of old warbirds and Nevada, how about some nice air race pilons like this ones here from Reno?
  25. Whatever I do I can't seem to put the Eagle down without her bouncing. Even with an AOA of 22-23, absolutely greasing it on at 145 knots in the flare. She always bounces onces then settles.
