  1. I'm going to have to try this. Not only do I enjoy using the HOTAS whenever possible opposed to hitting keys on the keyboard, it could help as I try to kill the engine midair for restarts and other practice.
  2. I started trying to make my own layers but I don't have even close to enough time. I once did some layering for the Huey but for some reason it was easier. I can't tackle this beast.
  3. Is this a layered file? I'm not the strongest GIMP user (and don't have Photoshop) so I may have done something wrong. But when I open the psd file it's just one layer that has been cleaned up some but has part of the USAF emblem on the sides of the fuselage. I just want to make sure I'm not messing something up. Thanks.
  4. I honestly have a ton of trouble finding anything in DCS. That's probably fairly realistic especially since most things are easier in real life just because you have more 3 dimensional awareness and force feed back etc. My biggest issue with A-10C is finding targets even with the lightning pod. Having said that, I've found that so far I can find bandits by checking the map and heading more or less toward them. That only works if they show up on the map off course, but you can eventually see the little dots and close with them. I think one big thing to keep in mind; however, is that if your flying the F86 and you're merging with a MiG-15 your merge speed is going to be higher than if you're in a P-51/190 merge so you have less time to find the enemy and adjust before you miss them. I have had a lot of fun loading up a flight of Sabers and going up against a flight of MiGs. I haven't had much luck but it's fun to watch the streak of coal coming out of your wingman's tailpipe and you join the wagon wheel of death.
  5. NWS doesn't activate sometime Sometimes my NWS won't activate after my start up. I have the wheel centered and my pedals centered and when I hold the button and push the pedals the wheel stays forward. I thought I might just need to start rolling to turn so I push the thrust up and it does start to turn a little, but not enough to make the corner. The first time I tried it the thing worked fine but sometimes it just won't make the corner even at slow speeds. I guess I'll have to brake. Edit: I'm not sure why it wouldn't let me turn the nose wheel but it did start letting me. I'm assuming that it was some combination of the NWS system on the F86 and my own confusion that made it not respond. It seems to be working now though I don't know what I'm doing differently.
  6. It's been awhile since I've dropped an LGB in DCS and I may have missed for other reasons, but I did an early lase a couple of times and missed. That doesn't answer the question but it's my understanding that it can happen.
  7. I can't find YAWC either. Are all of the good aps gone?
  8. This isn't showing up in the ap store for me. I tried searching several ways. My buddy has it and loves it but alas.....I can't find it.
  9. Interesting stuff. I wouldn't say that padlocking enemy missiles is "cheating" since you have that option in the game without some kind of glitch or mod. However, for me personally, anything that isn't an option in real life at least FEELS like cheating and thus it is. For instance, I despise tags. My friend always has them on and even though it makes things a little easier I hate having them on. For the same reason, I wouldn't padlock missiles as that's not an option in real life.
  10. I agree that using the gun as a brake is kind of cheating. Fun, and possible, but cheating if you're attempting to do something as realistically as possible.
  11. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/ or: http://www40.zippyshare.com/v/47502792/file.html I just realized that I changed the gunners vests but not the flight suits. But it can get you close if you want to pop just those files into your folder and go with it. Although you may have to make a copy of whatever vanilla chopper you want to fly then put the pilot, copilot, and gunner skins in and edit the .lua file.
  12. My MultiCam skin has tan pilot and copilot flight suits. They aren't the best but they are tan. I'll try to find the link I put in this thread or you can go find my files on the DCS page.
  13. I had a different experience from the first reply. I found P-51 to be almost impossible to learn (not impossible but much more difficult to fly the way it is supposed to be flown). The UH-1 is difficult to learn a few small things but is very fun to learn and fly. The A-10C has a lot going on so it can seem difficult to learn but it is not. It also has been the most enjoyable for me, thus it was actually easy to learn and fairly easy to progress. I can't say which one to get; however, as personal preference is a more important variable than anything else.
  14. This is true and you can buy a Track Clip Pro from Track IR by itself for around $35 US if you don't want to assemble the LED lighting yourself. At least I think you can. Free Track users seem to have good luck with the Track Clip Pro. It would help it be more reliable.
  15. No problem. It is a bit of an odd process trying to edit your files and convert them and all that junk. There is a model viewer that you can use to speed it up but I've never used it. Some of the smaller things are tough to find in the textures. On the "A" texture there are some access panels, but the only one that I remember the location of is the inside of the ladder door towards the upper right side of that first texture (the forward area of the fuselage texture). Good luck!
  16. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/misc/ Here are the miscellaneous files for DCS. There is a pack of PSD files that you can open up in Photoshop or GIMP and put a new layer in with your nose art and name. There is a little bit more to getting it into the proper form for DCS. Once you are done with the photoshopping you have to save it as a 24 bit bitmap then convert it to a DDS file. I use DXTbmp for that. Then make a new folder in your liveries, pop it in there, and edit the .lua file (the most complicated part in my opinion but not bad). That's the simple version. Like he said, there are tutorials out there. Some are a bit quick, some are convoluted, but they all help some. Let me know if you have questions.
  17. You might also look at FaceTrackNoIR if you have a webcam that works with it. I used that for a bit and while it wasn't quite free for me (I needed to buy a webcam and a light - it needs good lighting to work) it only cost me some time and about $30 US. After about a month I bought TrackIR because I had the money and I wear glasses, which FaceTrack at the time didn't track very well. They were attempting to create a version that could track faces with glasses at the time and I attempted to help test that but the person doing it, while very smart and helpful at times, seemed to assume I knew as much as he did about the program and it became a headache. Now I'm rambling. My point is to say that there is an option out there if you wanted to try some head tracking without spending the large amount on TrackIR. I can help you a little bit if you want to try it out and need some help setting it up. I'm no expert on it but just PM me if you do try it and have questions. Either way, good luck and happy flying!
  18. Is the lack of mipmaps what makes it looks so "clean"?
  19. I'm not very experienced but I agree that dead zones may not be the best idea. Helicopters don't float perfectly still like we see in some movies because there is a lot going on that has to be adjusted for. More rotor torque requires more pedal which increases or decreases tail rotor torque which is above the CG so the chopper starts to roll which requires a small amount of cyclic adjustment, etc. Every little thing changes something else. If you have dead zones you'll be fighting to get through the dead zone just to make a small adjustment that needs to be made sooner rather than later. The faster you can make it (and the smoother you can make it) the better you'll be. As far as I can tell from the things I read helicopters are supposed to be "twitchy". A know a guy who flew Littlebirds before and during Somalia back in the early 1990's and he says it's like dropping a single drop of water on a hot skillet and trying to keep it in the center by rotating the skillet around (but harder). Having said all of that....I'm not very good at it in this sim.
  20. Right, I know that with the description.lua we have available and the various textures I've found it isn't possible. I was just hoping that someone had some obscure model or texture they had found in a zip file somewhere that we didn't know about that got defaulted when not defined in the description. Obviously if there isn't a model for a second helmet you have nothing to skin. I was just hoping. Thanks.
  21. I have two different textures for the helmets, but my issue is that the .lua only calls out one helmet for both pilot and copilot. If there is another model, or if I could just copy the pilot helmet model and name it something else, that would be ideal. But I'm not sure if you can just make a copy of the model and add that to your .lua file with the second texture. How would the game know where to place the model? So for now that section of a .lua file looks something like this: {"pilot_UH1", 0, "pilot_UH1_usmc", false}; {"pilot_UH1_helmet", 0, "pilot_UH1_helmet_usmc", false}; {"pilot_UH1_patch", 0, "test_pilot_Patch_full", false}; {"Gunner_UH1", 0, "gunner_uh1_usmc", false}; You can add the gunner helmet too to customize it but it goes on both gunner heads not on the pilot or copilot. The pilot_UH1_patch, as far as I can tell, has BOTH pilot and copilot patches detailed on it (2 shoulder patches that are the same on both, then the rank and name patches that are different). What I'm looking for is something like "copilot_UH1_helmet" and maybe even "copilot_UH1" so I can completely customize the two skins. There are 2 pilot skins but so far I haven't seen any .lua files calling for more than one pilot texture. Hopefully they'll have the helmets separated in an update at some point. I guess they may not have to if they think the helmets should always match but it would be fun to have fully customizable stuff. Thanks all.
  22. Are we able to make the helmets different for pilot and copilot? I have not looked into it much because of time constraints but I only saw one helmet for the pilot in the .lua file and it seems that both of them are wearing the same helmet when I jump in the game. Just wondering if there is a way I can make them wear different helmets. Nice work yet again, everyone!
  23. Maybe I have that backwards. I'll have to check.
  24. I think you are correct about that. I may be mistaken but I think you could have a hot start if you don't motor them. I have to hold my TM Warthog engine op switches to motor them. They won't stay in that position although they will stay in the IGN position. Good point though on the Motor setting and setting the throttles behind the detent.
  25. Most companies will not share their models and/or drawings with anyone. Some will only to the extent that it helps the consumer determine which particular model or product best fits their uses (basic dimensions and capabilities). I doubt Lockheed would give their drawings to anyone who doesn't work for or have a NDA on file.
